HAS A FRIEND EVER EMBARRASSED YOU IN PUBLIC?

Uh...that would be a very loud YES! (lol)  During my younger years, you could pretty much blow on me, and I'd sport a red face.  Now, not so much.

Many, many years ago, I had a close friend who came from a very wealthy family of physicians.  She had everything a young person could want, but every time we went to a restaurant to eat, she'd steal a roll of toilet paper.  Yes, you heard me correctly.(lol)

The first time it happened, I tried to get the roll back from her and put it back in the bathroom, and that of course didn't work.  Meanwhile, I was super embarrassed, telling her that what she was doing just wasn't cool. It didn't help that someone actually saw her with the evidence. Living in a 6 bedroom house with all the bells and whistles, she obviously didn't need a stockpile of toilet tissue. I mean, what in the heck, right? Other than that, she was a really fun person to hang out with, and we laughed all the time.

Needless to say, it wasn't a one time incident.  Over the course of a year, it happened about 8 times, and no matter how hard I tried to convince her to stop, nothing worked.  Back then, no one was really going to arrest her for taking a roll of toilet paper from a restaurant, but I still had a hard time accepting that part of her personality.  I mean, what would happen if her kleptomania escalated to diamond rings or electronic equipment, right?  Embarrassment would be the least of my problems. So sadly,  I ended the friendship. Ironically, she's now a retired Pediatrician in California and doing quite well. Now she gets her toilet paper fix by using coupons like the rest of us.

But what about you?  Has your face turned red because of someone you know?  How did you handle it?

UNIVERSAL
I don't know if you had a chance to watch the Oscars this past Sunday, but one thing I noticed at the beginning of the show were the looks of joy on so many faces.

Dance + Smiles + Twizzlers + Junior Mints = Universal Love

OSCAR TRIVIA
The first show was in 1929 and lasted long enough to rush into the gas station to grab a drink and pump some gas - 15 Minutes!

Sadly, the duo from Price Waterhouse has been banned for life from any further Oscars for that now very famous error.

  2. I don't think I've ever been humiliated by a friend like that though I think I'd have had to stop going out in public with the toilet paper stealer! Way too stressful! My brother-in-law is one of those who always likes to say something shocking and get a reaction from the waiter. Thankfully his wife who ahs been putting up with this for 20 years is quick to tell the poor server that it's all him and the rest of us are normal so that helps a little!

    1. LOL! There's always one person in the family that's outrageous, right? To this day, i still can't understand what made her do the toilet paper thing. Hugs...

  3. Oh yeah that does sound embarrassing. I don't hag around friends, I pretty much just have friends online. But my family can sometimes be really embarrassing. My mom, when she was alive was probably the worst. If we took her to a buffet she'd bring her big purse lined with paper towels or ziplock baggies and pile her plate with cookies, shrimp or brownies and then dump it all in the baggies in her purse. She'd take all the packets of sugar off the table before we left and even took a few coffee mugs.

    1. I can understand that for sure, Mary. Sometimes it's better AND safer to be friends on line in many instances. I've seen people do the purse thing on tv, and it always made me laugh because it takes a lot of courage. As a kid it would have really embarrassed me, but now, I would probably laugh it off. (lol)

  4. Oh yes. But I'm always one not to want to stand out, so calling attention to myself is one thing I find difficult to do. Not so some of my friends. They're the kind who put lampshades on their heads without being drunk.

Thanks for stopping by the Write Game to say hi! Loved your visit.

    1. Back as a kid, I was definitely the front runner and drew attention to myself, but I did get embarrassed wen others did something crazy. (lol) Now, I definitely try to stay behind the scenes, for sure. So thrilled that you stopped by to say hello! Hugs...

  5. Your friend obviously has issues... to answer your question, I'm the one doing embarrassing things like tripping, falling on my face, and more clumsy stuff like that lol

    1. I know, right? That whole situation was super crazy, Braine! Back in the day, I used to laugh all the time when people fell or tripped. Now, I just worry that no one gets hurt and rush to help. Hugs...

  6. I'm still trying to understand why anyone would steal toilet paper...

  7. People are really quirky aren't they?

As far as the Oscars, would that not be the most embarrassing ever, being responsible for ruining them? Yikes.

    1. I love quirky, but not too sure about hanging out with a potential jewel thief in training. (lol) That whole situation at the Oscars was really something. I felt sorry for everyone involved, even the accounting firm. I imagine he feels super embarrasses about the whole thing. Hugs...

    1. I know, right? Some of the things that happened when I was younger was like right out of the Twilight Zone, but for my own sanity now, I mostly smile and keep it moving, too. Hugs...

  9. People are so crazy. I would have had a hard time with that happening over and over again, too. i had a friend who was super loud at restaurants and would say inappropriate things so loud other tables could hear. I'm all for naughty talk but was like come on act a *little* like a lady.

    1. How in the heck did I miss this comment? So sorry! Inappropriate things in public definitely causes me to have a red face, and initially, I laugh, but eventually, I know myself, and would have ended up saying something once I pulled her aside, I think. I mean back in the day, I used to be entirely different, and now that I think of it, I probably pissed off some people too. (lol) I'd like to think old age has mellowed me out a little. Hugs...
