HAPPY FATHER'S DAY & CRAZY HOUSES

It's interesting that according to www.history.com, Father's Day originated in Washington State on June 19, 1910.  President Woodrow Wilson made it a national holiday however, in 1972 on the same day  Mother's Day became official.

Fathers are important, but when it comes to getting all the cool swag that mothers get, they are at the low end of the totem pole.  In most instances, someone still has to actually pay for their meals in a restaurant.  The only FREE (without having to purchase something else) items I found were a small yogurt at TCBY and a slice of pecan pie at Shoney's.

I was the first born, so my given name is actually a version of my father's name. Ironically, he only called me by my real name when I got into trouble. (lol)

My dad used to buy all the neighborhood kids ice cream when the Good Humor truck came around, and he always told these really funny stories.  He also liked to do the Mashed Potato which was super embarrassing. I talked about this in another blog. When I got older, it amazed me that everywhere we went, people seemed to know who he was, and he didn't need a gps to find his way across the state.  He just sort of "knew" how to get places, and I couldn't figure it out. Once, I needed to visit an area I was unfamiliar with and got lost about 3 times.  When I got back home, my dad told me, "You're one of the most intelligent people I know.  Next time, take a deep breath, calm down and get to where you need to be without all that nuttiness."  Words to live by. (lol) Sadly, he passed on, but he's always remembered.

What about you?  Is there something really neat that makes you smile when you think about your father?  Will you do anything special today to celebrate?

A really good movie to watch today?  Father of the Bride.

WOULD YOU LIVE HERE?
I have to be honest.  Some of these houses look really neat, and I would totally live there!

DO YOU HAVE A PET PEEVE?
Some things really irritate people, and mine is anyone who will lie on someone else because they don't have the guts to admit their own wrongs.  If you cheated, stole something from the store or anything else that may be sheisty, just admit it. You look absolutely ridiculous by continuing the lie. If it's on tape, on video, or someone saw you, just tell the dang truth! Why show your weakness by throwing someone under the bus because you can't admit what you've done?

Some people call these people narcissists, and once they're found out, go on the attack in an attempt to ruin the character of someone else, hoping to protect their own wrongs. This is a very real psychological condition, but most will never seek help because they have no conscious about what they do. People get really angry with me, because I say these people just don't have balls. (lol)

My other pet peeve?  Abuse.  Be it verbal or physical, that's another sign of weakness, control and manipulation.

  1. Your dad sounds great. Now see, that conversation about directions would be the other way around with my dad and I. He is the king of the 'looooong' short cut. And hey, I was supposed to be named after my dad until I accidentally surprised them and was a girl. LOL

I would definitely live in that three story round house on the hill. Maybe the lemon one...

Oh yep, for me disrespect and mean words are high up there with lying. And abuse burns me because I know those people are little and weak inside so they have to go after others.

Thanks for the great post, Ro! :)

    1. That's cool about being named for your dad, "almost". Nothing like surprises, right? Doesn't that house look so fun? Don't get me started on the pet peeves. lol Hope you get to do something fun today and relaxing, Sophia! Hugs...

  2. Your dad sounds like he was an amazing person. Mine, if you can call him that was the complete opposite. Abusive and arrogant. I didn't get away from him until I was 21 and my mom was offered a way out. So this Father's Day I will be celebrating my mom who pulled double duty.

Also, some of those houses are awesome. #GetSocial

    1. Hey Adria, and hope all is well! yes, My dad was a really cool guy and he taught me a lot. Sadly, I feel your pain, because I was in an abusive relationship that was hard to get out of. I'm so sorry you suffered, but thrilled that you and your mom have found peace. She deserves to be hugged for doing the hard work of double duty. Big hugs...

  3. My sister was named after our father. Her name is Georgette...I believe you can guess what my dad's name was :)
My dad was very supportive and there for me during my first marriage with an abusive husband. I love him even more for this because he wasn't afraid of my ex when it came time to help me and he faced him man-to-man and told him what he thought of his abusive behavior and then he took me and my children to his house where I was safe. Both my dad and my ex are gone now. I miss my dad so much and I am sorry that my ex made a mess of so many lives including his own while he was alive. I forgave him long ago for what he did to me.
Those are some wild homes and I must admit I love looking at them but wouldn't care to live in one...well, maybe the tower home :)

    Hugs~

    1. I'm so thrilled that you had the love and support of your dad when you were in that horrible relationship, and I'm sorry your dad has passed on. Sounds like you have some great memories, though. Forgiving is for us and our freedom, and not the person or persons who hurt us. I think that's part of the healing process. I love a quirky house and would live in one for sure. Thanks for sharing your very important story. Hugs...

  4. Sadly, my father died when I was only 7 years of age but I can still remember how the neighbourhood kids will crowd around him when he came home from work. There was always some candies or biscuits for everyone. We all love him. Have a good day!

  5. My dad is 85 years old. I had chocolate covered oreo's delivered to him yesterday. He calls me this morning to say thank you for the cookies and jello. I was like, I didn't send jello. He says, Those cold jello packs (ice packs) that were in the box with the cookies. I asked him if he really ate them because those were gel ice packs that you can use over again. He starts laughing and says no, he cut them open and took them outside on the driveway to see if they'd melt in our 111 heat today. LOL

Now you know where I get my weird sense of humor from.

  7. Your dad sounds like he was a wonderful man and a fun father. I love the Mashed Potato story:) The HH used to grab our daughter's hand when she was a teenager when we walked at the mall, if he saw her friends around, to embarrass her:)
Fun houses. I love the turret:)
I'm with you, one of my pet peeves is not putting on the big boy boxers and say yeah, it was my fault, and instead looking for a fall guy.
    Have a great one.

  8. My father was a difficult man. A damaged man. And did the very best he could. I am grateful for all that I learnt from him, both the positives and the negatives.
Some of those houses look like fun.
Pet peeves? Rudness, unkindness, dishonesty, judgemental attitudes....

My Dad is now in his 90's and doing well. I couldn't be with him today (Father's Day) but spoke to him on the phone and will see him later in the week, which will be great.

Hope the new week will be a good one for you.

    All the best Jan

  10. Your dad sounds wonderful and what amazing advice. I love the houses but I think I'd really only want to live in the round one with all the windows. I'm definitely not a tiny house person! I love clothes and books way too much. I don't have too many pet peeves but the ones I do have drive me CRAZY. Super negativity drives me crazy as does cruelty but the thing I complain about the most is shopping carts left in the parking lot! Have a great week!

    1. Something about the quirky houses seems so cool, but like you, a house can't be too small for me. I need space for shoes, books and dvd's. I'm with you and don't like carts in the parking lot. They can do a lot of damage to a vehicle. Hugs...

  11. A great dad is worth his weight in gold. They aren't as common as we'd like to believe, sadly! I don't know if I could live in one of those houses, but I've seen some VERY interesting homes on water that I could do.

  12. Ro what a fantastic post. My dad, who I called Daddy until I lost him 20 years ago in a auto accident was my best friend, the smartest man I've ever known, even though he only went up to the 10th grade and even my husband of 40 years knows he'd never hold a candle to the man. Yeah I'm a daddy's girl. I have many fond memories of my dad but one that stands out right now in summer is the one year he made his protest of his "girls" bringing so many shoes on vacation that he packed every pair of shoes he owned for this particular trip and lined them all around the hotel room. It still makes me smile.

  13. What a cool story about your dad. Mine has the built-in gps too, but he's also the automotive guru. He just always knows how things work and come apart, even on new engines with technology he's never seen. Taught me everything I know about cars.

  15. Father’s are usually on the lower end of the totem pole and I have no idea why. I’m crazy about my Dad, I think it annoys my Mom but I can’t help it. I remember those Good Humor Trucks. I’m sorry to hear your Father is no longer with you. I would live in all these funky houses, especially the upside down house, I think that one was made for me.

My dad is one of those aloof types but there was one conversation I overheard he had with an aunt in which he was spot on about me. I was pleasantly surprised because I didn't know he knew me that well. Then Again he's my dad so go figure. I guess I was under the impression that because he was keeping me at arms length that he also doesn't know me that well lol

  20. Hi RO,

I really enjoyed this post, and it was lovely to read about your fond memories of your Dad. I'm sorry to hear about his passing. Positive memories always live on, and it's helpful to think of them when you're missing that person.

p.s - I like the quirky houses you've shown in this post. They're all so unusual, and it would be fun to live in a house with so much character!

    Lots of love Saba xx

  22. I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
