ARE YOU TIRED OF SOCIAL MEDIA YET?

When I worked years ago, most interactions happened with face to face meetings, or impromptu talks in the breakroom.  We also used the phone...a lot.

In 2009, I started using the Internet mostly to enter contests and to do book reviews.

Almost all of my contacts are maintained in a SpongeBob Address Book or my Planner.  I think I may have 3 people in my phone contacts.  Very few people will write down a phone number on a piece of paper these days.

I have 6 email accounts, but my main one has a little over 66,000 emails disbursed throughout Primary, Social, Forums, and Updates. I know that's a lot, but it used to be so much worse.  In addition, I maintain this blog, and can be found on Google+, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

With a Pad, two phones and a laptop, I'm literally on-line in some form or fashion, at least 13 hours a day.  Some people are on even more than I am.

Many days I just want to pick up the phone to call all my wonderful blogger friends to shoot the breeze, and to find out what's going on in their lives.  But bloggers blog, right? We don't actually chat with anyone, right?

There are plenty of times that we feel the need to unplug, but messages and e-mails will go unanswered, and work will pile up, making us cringe inside.
What will happen to our followers/friends?  Will we miss a special event from an author? Will we lose all the fun and excitement we've grown addicted to?!  What in the world will life be like in 2028, which is just 10 years from now? Will we all still be connected?  Will we be talking more and typing less, or vice versa?

LEADING ACTOR
Do you remember Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch from back in the 80's and 90's? His older brother Donnie is a member of New Kids on the Block.
Then he went on to become the face and "abs" of Calvin Klein underwear.  According to Forbes, the now well respected and happily married Mark Wahlberg is Hollywood's highest paid actor for 2017, raking in a total of $68 million dollars for his efforts.

Most Dangerous City in the World
According to MSN World News, the most dangerous city in the world for 2 years in a row is a place most of us have never even heard of, even though it's the capital. With over 4 million people, Caracas Venezuela,  has a homicide rate of 130 per 100,000 people, and is considered the homicide capital of the world!  Murders happen there consistently, any time of the day or night.

WEIRD NEWS
Can you imagine using a browser called Backrub? That's what founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin originally wanted to call their invention from a garage in California.
We now know they decided to go with Google, which was incorporated in 1998, and is worth about $500 billion dollars.

NEW BOOK TO TRY
With over 800 million novels sold, Danielle Steele is still doing her thing.  She puts a spin on a classic with her latest novel Fairytale, due for release on October 10, 2017.  This time there's a wicked stepmother and two wicked stepsons to update the story.

Don't forget that today is an important day for us to celebrate!  Yay!!!!!

  1. I have really gotten tired of the whole Facebook thing, even though the majority of my friends there are people I have known face to face, but as far as actual communication I get more of that from my blogging friends, I had to step away/ unplug for a while after my heart surgery, and most of you understood and were right there when I came back, I have a feeling had some of you known my phone number you would have checked in... Ok before I write a post and get off subject right here I will say in ten years I hope we are still communicating, whether it be through our blogs, telephone, in person or however. My blogging friends are the best and "that's all I'm going to say about that"

  2. Blogging is the extent of my social media exposure - and I already spend more time on-line than I am truly comfortable with. Just the same the warmth and the wonder of the blogosphere blows me away. I have wept with and for other bloggers, laughed with them, celebrated with them and learnt from them...

  7. I’m crazy tired of social media. I made the mistake of becoming a social media expert OMG, I’m on it all the time, it feels like it’s taking over my life in the worst way possible. I love your SpongeBob address book. I try to update my paper phone book every few months just incase I lose my phones and my contacts. Wow! I’m online about 8 to 9 hours a day, 13 hours seems like a serious challenge. I would love a week where i don’t get on social media, but then I wouldn’t get paid lol. I love love love my blogging friends. MY blogging buddies are seriously my family, i depend on them for love and support and hope they feel the same way about me.

  8. An interesting take on aspects of social media. And I love blogging and meeting new people.

  9. I am a little burned out on all forms of social media. I spend way too much time on Facebook, to be honest. It's the only way I really know what's going on in the world. Which means I pretty much know politics, what's going on in Florida (where my parents live), and what's going on in my town. Facebook Groups haven't done me any favors, either. Although I've gotten a few jobs out of them (none that lasted, though), mostly it just takes me away from work. But I guess I need that balance! I would rather communicate with someone through Facebook Messenger or comments on FB than on the phone, though. I am NOT a phone talker!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Oh yes, with blogging, social media has taken centre stage. I am almost constantly online these days and so are most of my friends. I guess it works for the introvert in me.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I've said this from day 1, I am a blogger. You won't find me on G+, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Tumblr, YouTube, Periscope, or Twitter. I barely have time to make art, respond to my blogger friends, photograph my art, and write posts, much less find time for those other social media groups. I agree that it would be nice to get on the phone and talk to some of my blogger friends, but that doesn't really happen. Another thing you won't find me on is Google. I refuse to use their internet search service.

I'm so glad you pointed out how long you are on the internet each day. I'm just thrilled to have met you and I love your "just one more thing" at the end of your blog posts. You have become a dear friend and I have only known you for a very, very short period of time. Keep those posts coming because I adore them all.

    1. That's pretty fascinating, and I have to admire your commitment to sticking strictly with blogging when it comes to the social media piece. I suck at art,(lol) but something about hanging out with artsy people, and admiring their work is really cool to me. Anna, the blogger I spend time with occasionally, (we went to see Ed Sheeran)is another one, along with a few more. A person who can create art really has a true gift.

There are days when I feel like I'm not on social media enough, and other days I just need to spend time finishing up a good book, because I am a serious reader. My TBR pile is literally in the hundreds because I'm so behind.

Ultimately, I would like to just get everyone's phone number and put in my Spongebob Address Book so I can call a blogger and just say "hey"(lol), but I don't know if it will ever happen, as you mentioned.

I don't know how I found your blog, but I love, love, love it! Thanks so much for enjoying my Columbo quote. He was and is the best the detective in the world.

When I started this blog, a friend told me it was "fake", and it hurt, but ultimately, I know that I'm doing what I like to do, so he was basically ignored. (lol) Thanks for the kudos. You've made my Saturday! Hugs...RO

  13. Hi RO :) Your description is way too much social media for me. I'm quite old school. I have binders and journals and notepads sitting on my table, I jot things down, I have an address book too. :) My bf said one of the things that attracted me to him was the fact that I wasn't glued to facebook. Blogging is it for me, and that's enough social media! It's very enjoyable and you're right, bloggers blog, that's what we do and what we enjoy! :)

  20. A lot of my close blogger friends live in the US, and I live in Europe, so we don't chat on the phone. But we do chat online. Privately. And that's awesome! We both blog and chat ;)
I hope that in 2028, I will have mastered the art of teleportation. I wish I could just blink my eyes (after having my mom agree) and show up in her kitchen to have a coffee before I go back from Norway to Switzerland to spend time with my husband and children :D
I don't get as many e-mails as you, but sometimes, I wish I got less! I go through my e-mail subscriptions every month-ish to see if there are subscriptions I should just unsubscribe from.
