CRACKERS
For some reason, I can never eat just one cracker. Has that ever happened to you? Nabisco released the saltine cracker in 1876 with the slogan, "Polly Wants a Cracker", but it didn't get really popular until The Great Depression. How do those holes get in the cracker? The super thin dough is docked precisely to allow the steam to escape while baking, therefore creating that crispy cracker we've all come to know and love.
MAYBE YOU DON'T HAVE TO COUNT STEPS
If you live somewhere cold and want to rev up that metabolism from eating all those cookie, stand outside for just 15 minutes. Doing this is the equivalent of 1 entire hour of exercise!!!!
BE CAREFUL
Clearing snow from the walkway/driveway is supposed to protect everyone from slipping as they head to your house for those cookies. According to recent studies, 11,000 people go to the emergency room because they get hurt while shoveling snow. Just like lifting heavy objects, experts encourage us to use our legs instead of our backs.

A few weeks ago there was a paperback giveaway which I was thrilled about. I went inside with my bag, prepared to load up on lots of goodies. Imagine my surprise when I realized that all the paperbacks had no cover!!! What in the heck?
Hardcore readers already know that the inside has a disclaimer that if the book was purchased without a cover, it's considered stolen property, and was reported as unsold.
This is what I'm used to seeing, and what I'm reading right now. |
If I purchase a book, or one is given to me, I'm pretty much expecting an intact book, which includes the cover. So really I'm wondering if anyone has ever experienced this, and if it means something special that I'm missing?
OMGosh. What a post. FIRST, I take exception with the Chai recipe. It reads "throw the bag away." Hardcore altered artists know that bag is PRICELESS, just like any good paper. It can be drawn on, stamped on, sewn on, and the list goes on. Obviously the person who created the cookie recipe was not a TRUE artist!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in CA one year, I searched for saltines. I was at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods and NEITHER of these places sold the lowly, yet tasty saltine cracker. Everyone I asked wanted me to buy some fancy crackers with lots of shapes or lots of different ingredients. How hard could it be to get a good old fashioned cracker? Pretty hard in CA, I guess.
I missed out on the White House Christmas special this year. I haven't watched HGTV since they stopped having crafts.
I don't buy many books, except at book sales, but I know you want the entire book, including the cover. There's often great art on the covers.
Hope your day is merry and bright.
That's pretty interesting about the teabag, Elizabeth! I'll bet lots of people don't realize that. I've got tons and tons of boxes of Lipton Tea, and need to save those bags for you for sure. Wow, no saltines in Trader Joe's or Whole Foods in CA? What in the world is going on? HGTV sure has changed over the years, right? You're right, covers often tell a unique story. Hope things are going well in your world! Hugs...RO
DeleteI'll have to give his music a listen. Wow, number 7!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a chai or eggnog person, but neat recipe for the holidays. I'll have to stick to the praline dip pretzels and yes, for Saltines. :)
I've not watched the White House decorating, but I do enjoy that sort of thing.
Huh, not sure why one would rip off the cover if their just giving it away. Maybe they got them that way. I guess as long as they're not trying to sell them its okay. I give away ARCs to people I think will read and offer another review for them.
Neat post as always, Radiant Ro!
When I saw this guy walk out on stage at The Talk, I literally felt myself swooning. Then he spoke and had this amazing sense of humor, and seemed like he had no clue he was so good looking. Then when he talked about his family, I was all in. His music is so amazing! Can you tell I'm gushing.(lol) Isn't that crazy that most of us can't eat just one cracker? The cover thing is super strange. Hugs...RO
DeleteI have never tried eggnog, I have always wondered about it
ReplyDeleteEgg nog is super sweet for sure. I usually have to use it as cream in coffee, and can't drink it straight - ever. (lol) Hugs...
DeleteSeven children? How does he do anything else? I suspect his wife has less than no time to call her own.
ReplyDeleteCoverless books? Sigh.
LOL! His wife sure has to be a busy bee for sure EC! I'm still scratching my head on the coverless book things for sure. Hugs...RO
DeleteI've never seen a giveaway where the cover was missing. That's really weird.
ReplyDeleteI thought so too Mary! The things I run into!(lol) Hugs...
DeleteI can see the appeal of Walker Hayes.
ReplyDeleteLOL! True, he's good looking, but his music is really good, too Andrew. Hugs...RO
DeleteI was out clearing the snow and nearly ended up falling on my butt. No fun at all.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised that guy is all about family, with 7 kids it would hard not to be!
It happens so quickly, right? (lol) Thank goodness you're ok! Seven kids sure is a big family huh? That surprised me and he says people comment on it all the time. Hugs...
DeleteI do love me some egg nog!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's really strange about the books not having covers. Hmmmm..
I thought this was a great idea for a recipe, and I also enjoy egg nog in coffee and tea. I'm still scratching my head over the book thing Jenea. Happy Tuesday! Hugs...RO
DeleteThat's weird about the covers and I've always heard the same thing as you. I'm not aware of any other reason. Those Eggnog Chai Cookies sound amazing and I need that cookie book! And wow! 7 kids!
ReplyDeleteThat cover thing still has me scratching my head Katherine. Any person who can come up with all these cookie books is a star! It's almost the Brady Bunch, right? (lol) Hugs...RO
DeleteI LOVE Walker Hayes, too! I had no idea he had 6 (and a bit) kids. That's crazy. He's just a smidge older than me. Holy cow. lol
ReplyDeleteHe's a gorgeous guy, and so humble. He was so fun to watch on the Talk, and You Broke Up With Me was a great catchy song. I was dancing around the living room getting my steps. 7 kids - yes, they've been busy, and still young enough to have more! (lol) Hugs...
DeleteWalker Hayes is super talents, I totally see why you are head over heels for him Ro :) Your Chai Tea Eggnog cookies look divine. I can never eat one cracker either, happy I’m not alone.
ReplyDeleteHe is talented for sure, Mary! I'm glad I'm not alone with the cracker thing either. (lol) Yay to cookies. Hugs...RO
DeleteHmm, I really hate the cold and I really hate exercise so which one do I choose? Freezing and getting the benefits of exercise or staying a lump on the couch and remaining warm? Who am I kidding? I know I'll pick lump on the couch! :)
ReplyDeleteHave a beachy week!
Elsie
LOL! That's quite a choice there Elsie! I think I'm with you on that one too! Hugs...and Happy Tuesday! RO
DeleteI love the song "You Broke Up With Me" - and wow, his 7th kid? That's a lot! lol
ReplyDeleteAs for the covers, that's really weird. Are they finished copies without a cover, or ARCs? I could see someone taking the ARC cover off because it says ARC, but otherwise, that's a bit odd. Ah well.

He sure has been busy, right? (lol) That song is pretty amazing. These are books that have been published for quite some time, dating back to 2009, so it just seems so strange. Hope your day is going well! Hugs...RO
DeleteGreat looking recipes, thanks for sharing. I like the tips on snow and standing outside for 15 minutes. Well done, warm greetings!

ReplyDeleteHey Barbara!I hadn't heard of him either until seeing him on a recent episode of The Talk. Then, like you, I started trying to watch him on other programs and listening on You Tube. He's pretty amazing! Happy Saturday to you! Hugs...RO
DeleteHappy Saturday to you too dear RO, and thanks for the introduction to Walker. x
DeleteOMG. These pretzels are right up my alley. I love chocolate dipped pretzels and I love pralines. What a wondrous merging.
ReplyDeleteAs always, a lot of fun and enjoyable info on your post.
Have a jolly day, Rockin Ro.
Hugs
I thought this was a great recipe to tie the two goodies together too, Super Sandra. Hope your weekend is going well! Hugs...RO
DeleteGreat post as usual RO, Love Chai tea but I won't use packaged cookies so I guess I'll have to try it with my own. Yes to eggnog w/o libations
ReplyDeletehmmm was the giveaway at a brick and mortar bookstore? I've never seen a giveaway w/o covers even arcs have covers very strange
Merry Merry
When I was younger, I used to use eggnog in drinks, but those days are gone. Usually, I like using it in coffee or tea for a different flavor. The giveaway was actually at a church.(lol) The books weren't erotic, so I don't get it Debbie. Hugs...RO
DeleteHi RO :) Delicious recipes! We were having egg nog on Monday while we decorated the tree...brandy and rum added of course! Then a good nap lol...It could be the manufacturer here in my area, but the last time I bought saltines was nearly a year ago and they were all burned. It's a shame because I used to love those crackers with a little butter on top! :) As for the books, no clue. I have never bought a book without a cover before and I'd be wondering what the heck too...a good book NEEDS a cover, it's all part of the experience of reading it!
ReplyDeleteThe drink sounds fun, and nothing wrong with a nap either. What in the world? Burned saltines?!!! I'm with you Rain. Give me that cover! Hugs...RO
DeleteYes, I wrote to the company and they sent me a $10 coupon. Then I used the coupon to buy another one of their crackers (Cheese Nips) and THOSE WERE BURNED TOO. They smelled like a chimney. The company ignored my second complaint so I took it to the Food Inspection Agency Canada department. They even sent a representative here to my home to pick up the crackers for further investigation!! I have no clue what happened, that was last spring. But the lady told me it could take up to a year and they'd send me the results when they have them. I haven't bought a crackers since!
DeleteI eat Cheese Nips a lot, and the fact that you received burned coupons again is horrible. And to not hear anything from last Spring is even worse. Perhaps a blog post is in order on this matter and sending them a copy? I don't blame you and wouldn't eat again either. I'm so sorry Rain!
DeleteI love Egg Nog, and can't wait to try those cookies. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI haven't had Eggnog in ages, but I grabbed some the other day, Angela. In addition to the cookies, I've been using it as my cream in tea and coffee for a different flavor. Yummy! Hope your day is amazing!
Deletestanding out in the cold as a form of exercise? it doesn't sound so bad. do you just stand there or are you allow to move? at least, it is slightly better than torturing yourself with those gym machines. just slightly, but not much.
ReplyDeletebook with no cover? I'm going have to say no to that. it doesn't make any sense to me. I have yet to get such book so I have no idea why that is.
have a lovely day.
If it was super cold out, I would definitely be moving around for some type for warmth for sure, Lissa! (lol) Those coverless books really shocked me for sure. Happy Friday! Hugs....RO
DeleteWait, what?! Books without covers. That's so weird. Why would you rip off the cover?
ReplyDeleteHey Kristin! Hope all is well. I'm still wondering about that as we speak. Very strange for sure. Hugs..RO
DeleteThose praline pretzels look delicious. As for the books without covers, that would just drive me absolutely batty because I love covers on my books. Even the digital ones. I go slightly bonkers if my books show up in my Kindle app without covers.
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for pretzels, and thought this recipe was pretty neat. The cover may not always fit the story, but like you, I would like to have one to look at for sure. Hugs...and happy Saturday! RO
DeleteGreetings from the Chester, UK. Thanks for sharing. Good luck to you and your endeavours.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Love love, Andrew. Bye.
Hugs right back! RO
DeleteLoving the drink recipe. Nope, I always end up eating at least a half-sleeve of crackers. LOL I will check out Hayes! Now I want Chocolate covered pretzels. Ugh {{hugs}}
ReplyDeleteWhat drug do they put in saltines to keep us eating them Kool Kim? (lol) He's so fun to watch. Hope your weekend is going well! Hugs...RO
DeleteHope your weekend is wondrous, Rockin Ro.
ReplyDeleteHugs

ReplyDeleteHello, my name is RITA CARMEN and I have been trying to get pregnant for over 12 years. i have been looking for ways online for so long, I first did Depo Provera Shot which i consecutively took every three months in order to get pregnant or fertile, but there was no way from it. I did Depo shot for 3 years constantly until my Doctors in Australia told me to try IVF because I had Endometriosis stage 4 and I resulted to try IVF (In Vitro Fertilization). For months after my IVF no progressed and my situation became worse that my husband had already had plans or getting married to another woman because I was barren. I read a testimony about Prophet Abulele how he had helped so many women with pregnancy problems and also how he usually casts return spells to bring back partner and make one fertile. Of all options tried, I gave Prophet Abulele a try. I am now a mother of a baby boy. For over 13 years of my marriage I received my help from this spell caster. I want to impact on someone's life and make the person get help from a good spell caster. Prophet Abulele's email is:- prophetabulelehealingtemple@gmail.com and his WhatsApp is +2349022406159 once you contact him, he will help you fast.
I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
ReplyDeleteliver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
