TIPS, TRIVIA & STUFF

So I noticed that I had 4 brand new never been opened 500 and 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles  sitting around, so I decided to put them on eBay, and bingo - they were all gone before I knew it!  I'm sure this happened because more people were sitting at home and looking for things to do. By the way, if you want to keep your noodle on point, try working on puzzles online for FREE at www.mindgames.com. My favorite is scramble words, but there are several types to choose from.  Be prepared - it can be quite addictive.

If you want to play some cool board games instead, Taboo will really have you screaming with laughter as you try to figure what NOT to say to win the game.

Other than working on a few projects, I still have time to watch Netflix.  If you want some suggestions, check out Miracle in Cell #7, Unorthodox, Extraction, The Willoughbys, Trolls World Tour and Never Have I Ever.  You'll be laughing, blubbering, clapping and dancing before it's all over.  If you want to try Netflix FREE for 30 days, visit  https://www.netflix.com/signup .    You'll need to provide a credit card# but they'll remind you BEFORE the expiration so you have time to cancel.

Speaking of Netflix, I am SO guilty of doing all of these. (lol) According to a survey from The American Academy of Sleep Medicine, we're doing everything else except sleeping.

Those between the ages of 18 - 44  are part of the 95% of people who are staying up late to binge watch something on television, and those older than that make up 88%.

When it comes to finishing a book, 71% of American women are burning the midnight oil and 75% of men will stay up at night to watch a sports event.

New Jersey is considered the diner capital of the world and has about 525 of them in the state.  It also has the most shopping malls within a 25 mile area.

Speaking of food, you may be surprised to know that North Carolina has lots and lots of sweet potatoes.  So many in fact that they produce more of them than the other 49 states across America combined!

Something about Iowa is very popular to pigs because as of 2019 there were almost 24 million of them living there.  As the largest pork producer in the US, there are only a little over 3 million people who live in the state, much less than the little piggies running around!

Did you know that in the state of Alaska there are over 3 million lakes?!
Iliamna Lake is the largest lake there and the third largest in the United States.

Also, no matter where you live in Alaska, be prepared for some sort of bear sighting. A little over 100,000 black bears live there along with 30,000 grizzlies.  They may look cute and cuddly but grizzly bears are very dangerous and more likely to attack versus black bears who can often just be scared away with loud noises, yelling or banging on objects loudly.  Whatever you do, and as much as you may be tempted - don't run!  In fact, grizzlies are so dangerous that they have been known to even attack black bears.  YIKES!

If you get along really well with your significant other and don't mind working together for at least 5 days a week, this site is for you.  I check it out periodically because it's amazing to see some of the places you can live with FREE accomodation, a salary and other unexpected perks. Do people tell you all the time that you should be a radio announcer because your voice is fabulous?  If  you enjoy working behind the scenes, why not get paid to do voice-overs or narrate novels?  Visit www.acx.com and click on narrators to find out how you can get started.  You can also advertise your skills over at www.guru.com.

I've known Mary over at http://scarymarythehamsterlady.blogspot.com/ since 2014, and she's always a hoot.  Her blog talks about scoring freebies, she reviews novels, shares recipes and lots more.  She also does a great job of visiting lots of other bloggers when she can. We interact via social media platforms, and also offline.  So it pains me to share the news that her husband has been diagnosed with malignant brain cancer and lung cancer and will be starting chemo soon.  I've been crying about this for quite some time because this is just devastating, and I feel helpless.

They don't have much money, but are desperately in need of a vehicle or cash for transportation to many of his appointments, or for anything not covered by insurance.  If you're able to help, please visit  https://www.facebook.com/donate/759712124560544/759712147893875/ .   For those not on Facebook who would like to donate, you may do so via Paypal- me8acat@yahoo.com as well as on her CashApp- $scarymary66.

  1. I'm not surprised about the jigsaw puzzles selling so quickly. I was trying to find some right after our lockdown started and it took me a couple of weeks of looking everywhere online to finally find one I liked that was priced reasonably.

  8. I've got a 1,000-piece puzzle going right now. It's an Escher drawing, all shades of grey and no color, so it's pretty challenging.

I guess I must be secretly a woman because I never stay up late to watch sports (I'm not interested in sports, plus I don't have a TV), but often to finish a book.

Joni Ernst has clearly not been doing her job if the pigs in Iowa are breeding that much.

Three million lakes in Alaska works out to about four lakes per square mile (and 23 lakes per bear). If a grizzly bear were to chase me, it would probably fall into a lake before it caught me.

Those apartment manager jobs sound pretty cool, except that you have to deal with all the clogged toilets, neighbor noise complaints, etc.

That blogging cat seems quite intent on his work!

    1. That sounds pretty nique. Once you put it all together, I'd love to see a pic. I worked with this guy many years ago who was an expert with puzzles. He could look at a piece and know exactly where it went, while I was picking up a zillion pieces trying to get them to fit.(lol) Lots of people are not interested in sports and haven't even noticed no football, baseball, tennis or boxing, so you're not alone. LOL to the pigs! That's some good math, and an even better observation of what would happen to the bears.(lol) I agree, the jobs sound cool, especially those in a resort area, but there is definitely lots of work to be done too. That cat is secretly me(lol) Air Hugs, RO

  9. How sad for your friend and fellow blogger's husband. When you learn of how to donate other than on Facebook, please let me (and others who are interested) know.

It's too bad the people of Iowa have so many pigs. They also have several pork processing plants that Trump mandated MUST stay open, even though there was no virus testing of the plant(s) employees. People were and still are literally dying from this mandate so carnivores can have their sausages and pork chops. It's not the poor pigs fault, but the fault of the greedy pork plant managers who refuse to test their employees, but tell them if they miss work, they are fired.

Sorry, off my soap box, dear.

I'm always cool with soapboxes(lol) and thank you. Hope you are feeling well my friend. Air Hugs, RO

  39. It sure seems to be a good time for doing puzzles, I am working on a 1000 puzzle myself at the moment. That's nice you managed to sell yours so fast.

I didn't realize there were so many bears in Alaska. I wouldn't want to encounter one of those.

I hope Mary can get enough money to help with her husbands travel for his cancer treatment. That's so nice you shared her fundraiser on your blog!

    1. It can be relaxing I've heard, and kudos to you for relaxing some, because I know you have a lot of stuff going on. I agree, bears appear to love being in Alaska for sure Lola.(lol) I agree. I just can't imagine what they are both going through right now, but I hope the added stress of not having transportation is removed. Sending lots of air hugs your way. RO

  40. Have you watched Blacklist yet on Netflix's? We are so hooked. It both appeals and appalls:) I love James Spader. When I'm not hiding my eyes at the violence, I'm laughing hysterically.

    1. Like you, I've been hooked for years, and am glued to the tv every Friday night when it was on. They did the final episode of this season in a cartoon format due to COVID-19 virus because they couldn't film together. I want a friend like Reddington, please.(lol) And yes, you are right, James Spader is awesome in the roll. Air Hugs, RO

  42. I love jigsaw puzzles. They seem childish and yet, I really like putting them together but sadly, I can never found one with pieces larger than 1,000.

Why wouldn't you run if you see a bear? I would and how could you not? I'm glad I don't live in Alaska.

    Have a lovely day.

  43. As you know, I watch a lot of reality tv shows and so many of them are doing COVID specials. Lots and lots of people are really getting into puzzles and I think that is so cool. My mom was so good at them. Even as dementia crept in, we brought her puzzles to stimulate her brain.

I'm so sorry to hear about Mary's husband. I'm sending lots of love and positive vibes their way.

  45. I tried to buy jigsaw puzzles back in April, and had very little luck. There were hardly any that had pictures that interested me. So I wish I had known you were selling your puzzles! I did find one painting of an English cottage that I'm looking forward to working on -- if I can ever clear the kitchen table of my mask-making stuff!

I'm so sorry to hear about your blogger friend's husband. How scary and devastating for them! And it's tough to feel helpless to help, when you want to somehow make it all better.

You are absolutely right about grizzlies. I'm thankful we never encountered one on our moutain walks, on any of our vacations. We saw a black bear adolescent on the trail once, but luckily we were pretty far away, so we stayed put until he went on his way. I do love seeing bears from the safety of my car, though -- black or grizzly! And we enjoyed our trip to the North American Bear Center in Ely, Minnesota, last summer... and the International Wolf Center, too. We were hoping to visit them again this year, but obviously, our vacation was cancelled.

  46. Great info indeed RO! The above comment sounds like a scam and may even be coming from a country that believes strongly in witch craft and vodoo, lol. I know from experience after talking to a LYFt client that a lot of these spells on love are false. Either way, I feel like I know Mary as well, I've been following her blog for so long. Glad you guys communicate on and offline, feel free to make a stronger connection with me as well. I'm always looking for writers who want to collaborate on social media.
