MORE USELESS STUFF

I say this all the time!(lol)
A few days ago, my granddaughter turned 10, and one of her gifts was a HUGE makeup kit from this well known and popular influencer on Youtube called James Charles.
Despite loving this palette, the truth is that I'm iffy about young people wearing eyeshadow and lipstick. All I could hear was my mom drilling in my head that I couldn't wear ANY type of makeup until I was at least 17, and you already know that no one wanted to hear about the old days of when I was a kid.(lol)  So I'm officially old fashioned.  Am I being unreasonable?  Is it now okay for kids to put on mascara and more these days? What say you blogger buds?

Did you know that Betty Crocker isn't even real?  She was a creation of the Washburn-Crosby Company in Minnesota, later purchased by what we now know as General Mills.

Over the years people created portraits of her that seemed motherly, yet also changed with the times. Even though she was made up, in 1945 Betty Crocker was 2nd most popular person in the country.  Who was number 1? Eleanor Roosevelt.
When we think of Georgia, peaches come to mind, but you may be surprised to know that the state is also the number 2 producer of...kale! Some people even mix these two together in a salad or a smoothie. The state that produces the most of the healthy veggie is California.

We've seen lots of famous people riding around in luxury jets, and they pay big money to do so.  But for those who own them and don't pay the bills, there's actually an airplane repossession person hired by the bank who will politely snatch it up.  Right now, the person who's considered a legend and always gets his plane is 78 year old Ken Hill.  He actually gets paid twice! There's a fee to get it back from the defaulter, and another fee once the the plane has been resold.
Speaking of planes, for years I've always wanted to travel to Alabama to see what they have in this store, and finally, it's online.

Cowboy Hat for Sale
You can still visit in person, but just in case you let your fingers do the walking, please check out www.unclaimedbaggage.com.  This store sells all the stuff that people lost or forgot about on airplanes, and you'd be amazed at what's there! Clothing, jewelry, toys, electronics, and more.

It's just between us, but have you noticed that your clothing is getting a little too tight these days?  Well, there's a way to get motivated to lose weight, meet people AND get paid with https://www.dietbet.com/

Despite loving cold weather, I have no intention of ever living in the arctic area of Canada, but that won't stop me from watching 10 survival specialists as they try to win a million dollars.  All they have to do is live ALONE in the cold for 100 days.  The contestants are allowed to bring items from a specialized list  provided by the show, and you'd be surprised of some of the things they chose.  There are 3 things on the prohibited list that would have immediately disqualified me - cheeseburgers, a lighter/matches, books and wi-fi.(lol)  What have you been watching these days?

Do you remember one of my last posts when I talked about puzzles?  Well https://infidel753.blogspot.com/ finished the work on this 32 inch high Escher puzzle in a just a few days.  Isn't this pretty amazing?

Are you vegan, or thinking about making the switch?  Their make-up, snacks and beauty boxes are available with flexible subscriptions that have been thoroughly tested to ensure they are 100% vegan and cruelty free.  Visit   https://vegancuts.com/snackbox/ to find out more information.

When my son was a kid, he had a HUGE crush on this model/singer/entrepreneur, and now she's the new host of Dancing with the Stars which will be back later this year. That original signed picture he received back in the day might be worth money one day.(lol) Congratulations to Tyra Banks!
Did you know there are over 3000 FREE college courses you can take  online from schools like Harvard and MIT at edx.org?  In most instances all you have to do is pay for the certificate which ranges from $49 to $125.  Wow!

                                      Which one are you?

  1. No books? For 100 days? That is a contest I couldn't enter. I would be stark staring mad by midday on the first day.
Call me old and old fashioned too. 10 sounds too early for make up to me.
And yes, I would love to look through the things people left behind on planes - and didn't bother to try and claim.
Have a safe and wonderful week dear RO. Hugs.

  2. Well I went to unclaimedbaggage.com and wasted a little time looking at stuff that was priced way to high for a lost and found store. I'm glad you posted it. I've heard about this place for years. Now I don't ever have to worry about going there just to see what they have. Thanks!

  4. I don't think I or any of my friends used makeup at 17, except when was in stage plays that were put on by the school's drama dept. I remember when I was a freshman and was forced to take home-ec when they wouldn't let me take shop or auto mechanics, the teacher forced us to buy things like high heels we wouldn't normally buy for a fashion show to show off our clothes we had to make. I think she also wanted us to wear make up, but I never did because my grandparents went to the principal, along with other parents to force her to revise her rigid rules on the fashion show. Because of her, I don't like to cook OR sew clothes. She didn't come back the next year, either.

My luggage was lost once and it came back damaged. Never unclaimed, though. I have no desire to look through what others have lost or not claimed.

I would be lost without a way to light a fire. I don't think I could survive 100 days in that much cold with no way to stay warm.

Love the Escher puzzle. It would be like going up the down staircase. I have a similar drawing of his, but a puzzle would be difficult.

I try to emulate my very dear internet friend RO! who is both nice AND kind.

Glad yours came back too, even though it was damaged. Thank you for the wonderful words dear Elizabeth. ou are very much appreciated! Hugs, RO

  5. On the make-up thing, I see no harm in it as long as it's something she genuinely likes doing herself (as opposed to being pushed into it by adults like the case in the Bleubeard and Elizabeth comment, which would obviously be inappropriate). Parents need to indulge and encourage their kids' interests more and judge them less. Kids younger than 10 sometimes get face-painting at fairgrounds and suchlike, and that doesn't seem to bother anybody. If it were something permanently disfiguring like a tattoo, then obviously that shouldn't be allowed for a minor, but things like make-up aren't permanent.

I don't know why anyone would think Betty Crocker was a real person. It's a brand. Does anyone think Ronald McDonald or Captain Crunch are real people?

I've actually lost fifteen pounds since the start of this year. Clothes that used to fit are now noticeably loose. Worth it, though.

I don't see what would be the point of spending a long period alone if you couldn't have books or internet.

That reminds me, it's about time I started another jigsaw puzzle. I'd have to clear away all the stuff that's accumulated on that table, though.

Vegan make-up? Do people eat make-up? Snacks can be tricky. I recently quit eating milk chocolate because I realized it has animal stuff in it. That had just never occurred to me before. I only get dark chocolate now.

Thanks for the tip on edx.com.

Nice or kind? With me it's generally both or neither, depending.

    1. You're definitely right about that Infidel because she absolutely adores putting on the make-up, and also dressing up. Her soul is definitely one of an artist. That's a really good question. I wonder if anyone ever thought Ronald McDonald was real!(lol) Kudos to you for the weight loss. I clearly need to be hanging out with you! The thought of a million dollars makes people definitely do things outside the norm for sure, right? Looking forward to seeing another amazing puzzle! There sure is a lot to know to the vean thing, and like you, I'm continuing to learn. I'd be willing to go out on a limb to say that you're kind AND nice all the them. Hugs, RO

  6. I've never wore makeup but I've always thought it as a bad idea - they're really not good for your skin, that is, if you forget to take them off. 10 to me is too young an age to wear makeup but like you I am old fashioned, 17 is more a reasonable age.

I guess nice and kind is the same thing for me, I like to be nice and kind.

  18. I've always loved makeup so I may be somewhat biased but I let my kids start wearing makeup when they were 11 or 12 though did nix really heavy or sultry looking looks and it couldn't make them late for school etc. They also had to take care of their skin and wash their faces. It can be really fun and positive to play with though I have pretty mixed feelings on James Charles. My girls mostly wore a little eye shadow and tinted lipbalm and a bit of mascara.

Unclaimed Baggage is about an hour awhile from me and honestly it can be a bit underwhelming. You used to be able to find some pretty fun things for good prices but now it's mostly abandoned shipping containers. I think last time I was there there were racks and racks of Santa Claus themed lingerie and that was about it. I haven't been for years though.

I let my daughter have makeup (my old stuff I wasn't using, free samples) when she was young, but she would just try it out when she played dress up. 23. As a man, it certainly isn't my place to say whether or not a 10 year old should wear makeup. But here's my two cents anyway lol. I think it can be a double edged sword. On the one hand, it could empower the young girl to feel comfortable in her own skin and see herself as "beautiful". On the other, it could negatively enforce unrealistic beauty standards on a child. I think it should really be a balance of the two. It will be up to the influential adults in her life to help her find that balance. I certainly don't envy any of you!
