ARE YOU A COMMENT JUNKIE?

Don't forget to stop by to visit our very good buddy Kim's site at  www.caffeinatedbookreviewer.com, who is hosting today's blog.  She always has tons of great info about book reviews, blogging tips, movies and other fun stuff.

When I first started this blog, I was hesitant to share it among the masses, mostly because I had no idea what the heck I was doing. Then I jumped out there to share it publicly, which still made me a little nervous.  That's when I noticed that no one was responding.  Oh no!  Was anyone even paying attention?  Was I offending someone?
Thanks Kim!

Eventually, that changed, but it made me realize that that there are plenty of people who read the thousands of blogs out there who just don't feel like responding, and that was okay.  Maybe the topics I brought up were not a fit.  Some people are simply shy about commenting. Sometimes there is a lot of mutual love by those who respond back to bloggers who visit their pages, and we see them every time we post.

I like to visit a blog I'm familiar with, then click on an unfamiliar name leading me to that person's blog for something new.

The thing about blogging is the tendency to see a lot of the same people commenting on blogs we visit, so despite so many bloggers out there, it's still a relatively small world.  I love interacting with other people to share ideas, to just have fun, and to hang out.  Sometimes I'm not as timely as I need to be, but I do try to respond to each comment.

Then you have the Big Blogs who have over 200-300 comments. How can anyone keep up with that kind of volume?

After that comes the group of angry commenters who are ready to pounce on you at any moment. (lol)

Don't forget the super funny ones that may or may not make any sense.

What does bug me, however, is if you use a contact form associated with a blog to ask a specific question, and the owner of the blog never bothers to respond. Why do you have a contact form on your page, and why don't you at least acknowledge the person's request? That is just downright rude!

C-Span Mania
Let me put it out there that I don't talk politics via Social Media, but there are plenty of blogs who do. I do, however, love to observe potential funny behavior. (lol) Has anyone ever watched C-Span for a long period of time?  I don't normally, but yesterday, I watched a man give sporadic pertinent info to his viewers, while also taking LIVE calls from Republicans, Democrats and others as they gave opinions about the candidates.
I have to say that many of these comments were less than favorable to either party, but this guy stoically took each negative call, remained silent as he listened, then thanked the caller for the comment.  Sometimes he smirked, or looked plain bored, but this guy literally was inundated with hateful messages during the entire program and maintained his composure consistently, never getting pulled in to the feelings of either party.  All he did was move on the next call. Can you imagine doing this on LIVE television for an entire hour?! Bravo, I say!

RADIO
Do people still listen to the radio?  I definitely do, whenever I'm driving, and it tends to be loud. (lol)  No talk radio for me, usually, as my focus is on all that music.  Did you know you can actually listen to radio stations from all over the world? College campuses, the Vatican, Hit Music from France and so much more, can be found by visiting this site:  http://www.mikesradioworld.com/. Don't worry, if you visit a site that's in a language you don't speak, Google will translate.  Also, I keep one of those radios around that run by battery in case we have a zombie attack, and lose all power or Internet connectivity.

  1. I get about 5000 views a month on my blog but a lot less comments than that. So I know people are reading what I post and I do appreciate the comments I get. I do see a lot of the same people commenting on other blogs as well.

  2. Oh, you know me, Ro. I devour comments like cupcakes. I believe in the importance of reciprocation. So if you leave a comment on my post, rest assured, I'll scratch your back as well. :)

I got my very first comment form notification yesterday! I was ecstatic. Lol.

  3. A contact form -- and no response? Maybe the contact form isn't working and the message isn't getting delivered? Because I don't know why you'd have a contact form if you don't plan on responding.

Sometimes, a kid will send a message to me at my author website, and my reply to them is blocked because they used their school email account. Or their parents have their email set so only certain people get through.

But I highly doubt that's the case for you! :)

    1. I tried to give that person, who is very popular and funny by the way, the benefit of the doubt, but when you get a message saying the form went through, uhhh..that sort of killed it for me. (lol) I was actually asking her advice and really admire the things she does with her blog. Oh well...(lol) That's interesting that kids want to stop by. , but a lot of the things you talk about are pretty exceptional and thought-provoking. Hugs...

  4. I think lots of people read blogs but don't comment because I know my numbers definitely don't add up. I've also noticed that if I run any kind of giveaway that requires a comment I consistently get certain people who never comment otherwise so I think they're out there reading they're just not talking. To be honest I'm not sure I would have commented before I became a blogger. I definitely love my comments! It brightens my day every time I get a new one!

    1. When I used to enter contests 4-5 hours a day, (yep, that's true and another story-lol) I can't tell you how often I posted to win the prize, but then again, I wasn't reading blogs at all that much 6-7 years ago. Now I visit them lots more, and comment. I figure if I'm there, I better say something. *heh* There have been times when I lurked because I was nervous about what to say. I agree that the comments do make it more fun. Hugs...

  5. I have a radio right next to my computer. The buttons are set to the "Phillies" station, the Oldies, and the station that hosts "Sunday with Sinatra."

    1. That's really cool, Angela, and I love Frank Sinatra and Harry Connick's music. I used to listen to music while on the computer, but ended up getting too distracted. (lol) Sounds like you're ready for a zombie invasion, just in case. Hugs...RO

  6. Ro, I'm a comment junkie in that I LOVE to visit other blogs and them meaningful comments. After blogging for so many years it drives me crazy to read phony comments like great post. .. if that's how you're going to comment don't bother. I no longer publish those ones as all they want is a visit to their blog. Personally I don't think that's what blogging is about, I think it's a community of getting to know others and I love it. I always respond to mean full comments ♡

    1. Totally love the camaraderie as well, and I've met bloggers who live near me and have gone to eat or hang out at blogger events. Getting to know other people with the same or different views is so fun for me, and makes my day. Of course, you know I'm glad I found your blog! Lots to say there. Hugs...RO

  7. like you I like to visit the the blogs that I know and once in a while I visit new ones and if their blog do not interest me, I find myself not commenting

I'm one of those people who reads blogs but don't comment all that much, sometimes there's really nothing to say and sometimes I find myself wondering if it make any difference if I do say something, so I always end up not saying anything.

    anyway, have a lovely day.
