YOU'RE TIRED OF BLOGGING...NOW WHAT?

Have you ever visited one of your favorite blogs, and found it to be missing in action?  Some of the posts may be outdated by months, or even years with no mention of what may have happened.  Sadly, another really good blog that was active on a daily basis and super funny, has decided to close down his or her blog.

A little while back, I got way behind with postings and commenting, and there was a feeling that I had nothing left to say. Still,  I've never really had the urge to stop doing this blogging thing.  It's fun to come up with new topics, and getting other viewpoints makes it even more interesting.

There are several blogs I've come across lately that give really good tips on design, or staying focused, freebies or getting healthy.

Then I always enjoy finding out about brand new novels and authors, and their reviews are very much appreciated.  Then there are those bloggers who really pull you into their world with heartfelt stories of life in general.  We hear about family, pets, work, illness, trips, or abuse. But there are also plenty of  success stories that keep us motivated. Somehow, we feel connected to that blogger.
I think the reason to quit may be tied to the reason we start to blog. Was our intent to get rich, share reviews on products or books, cooking ideas or more?  Do we still love those things?

I did some research and found several bloggers who make BIG money on a monthly basis.  An entertainment site, www.Mashable.com makes over $650,000 a month from Google Ad Sense alone!  Here's an example of a Lifestyle money-making blog called PinchofYum.com. This data comes from www.bloggerspassion.com.  Wow!

Introduction:
Pinchofyoum.com TeamPinchofyum.com is a food blog owned by a husband and wife team Lindsay and Bjork. Lindsay is a teacher, pug lover, and dessert eater from Minnesota handles the writing, photography and cooking part while the technicalities and making money is handled by her husband Bjork. Why they are into blogging? Well.. here are the reasons given by Lindsay herself:
Blogging is a lot of work. So why do it?
There are so many things about this process that have been meaningful and rewarding for me.
  • sharing yummy food with other food lovers
  • helping others start their own blog
  • sharing photography tips in a food photography eBook
  • developing the blog into a source of income
  • showing others how they can do the same in our monthly income reports
Plus a big benefit of the income that we earn from the blog is that it helps us make this year of living and working in the Philippines a reality.
The team at pinchofyum.com regularly posts recipes to their blog. The frequency of posting varies between 25-30 posts per month and enjoys a good readership. The blog posts are loaded with eye-catching pictures of the recipes. It is obvious from the quality of things that the team takes good care of what goes live on their blog. Pinchofyum.com is a part of Blogher blogging network.

But I bet some of us have run into a few occasions where we come up empty or feel a little bit of burnout.  I'm sure we may have come in contact with some negativity that we could definitely live without.  But are these things enough to make you pull your hair out and simply throw in the towel?

The other day on Facebook I was shocked by a post.  Twenty years ago, I would have laughed about this along with everyone else.  At this point in my life, I know that those who are homeless or victims of domestic violence may not have time to bathe because they left their homes with nothing, or are out on the street with nowhere to go.  They're embarrassed and hurting. What saddened me about this post is that this woman works in the health AND beauty industry.  I just expected a better response from such a classy woman. Her Facebook  post is listed below.

"Public Service Announcement!! Please to all my FB family & friends can you make sure that before you go to the doctor or anywhere please take a bath , shower ,wash up at the sink which ever suits you but wash your ass please !!! This is the negative side of working in the medical field .. It's just so disrespectful to come to the doctor smelling like you haven't bathed in weeks ðŸ˜·ðŸ¤¢ nobody wants to smell your stinking ass !!! ðŸ˜¡ðŸ˜¤ðŸ˜©ðŸ˜– "

  1. Ro, that was a nasty post... I understand not wanting to smell the person but like you said, that person may not have a place to get cleaned up or the money to do so... a little compassion is needed xox

I never started to write a blog for money, I started writing after dealing with trials from my marriage... I had lost my voice and felt like I couldn't be heard. I always wanted to write and so I started it. For nearly two years I had very few people reading it and then I joined a blogging group and I slowly started to grow followers. What I ended up thinking about blogging is that if no one ever read or commented on my blog, I would always write... it's something that helps me.

I miss when a blog I have loved just stops writing, it's a little sad as I really connect with most of the people I follow... luckily I am connected with many of my followers through other platforms so I am still able to keep up xox

  2. I started blogging as a place to put my thoughts or share what was going on in my life. I never once thought I'd have so many people reading my blog. That really was a bad post that person made.

It's sad when a blog that I've been visiting just up and disappears.

  3. Interesting & impressive. I think you have to dedicate a lot of your time if you want to pursue that avenue. I wish I have the same level of creativity these people have or at least my life is interesting, but alas reading and reviewing is my talent base lol

    1. Braine, you're one of those beautiful and brainy people that we all wish we could be, so I'm not trying to hear reviewing is your only talent, girl! (lol) I know, right? Those numbers are super impressive for sure, as a blogger.

  4. I love your point about considering the reason why you started blogging in the first place when trying to decide whether or not to continue blogging. That was a decision I struggled with last year when it came time to renew my hosting. I ended up deciding to stick with it because I started the blog for fun, and even though my posting is sporadic sometimes, I do still have fun with it. Thanks for sharing your perspective!

  5. I've had a few friends get into blogging to make money, the quickly realized you don't make money off of just writing and taking pictures. You make money from your passion and connection with others and that takes time. Great Read.

  6. Wow, that post about going to the doctor smelling bad is really rude! You don't know people's situations. They might be really embarrassed and that attitude is not helping matters.

This August I'll have been blogging for 10 years. I really do love it, and I don't see myself quitting. It can be tough and tiring sometimes but the good outweighs the bad.

  7. I blog for the community...it's SO comforting to see others out here doing what I do. I write blogs for businesses and I'm paid for those, but the blogging I do out here is all in fun!

  8. I'm with you on remembering why a person is doing something to keep on track with thinking and planning whether to stick with blogging. Sometimes the thinking brings a person to see that they have grown and gone another direction so they should change the life of the blog, too.

Oh ouch! Yeah, not a very compassionate or thought out post. I have a friend with a gland disorder that can wash all this lady would want, but would still smell. I also have known folks that are in those situations you refer to. Body Odor or even some deep down grime isn't the the worst thing on the planet especially since there are surgical masks and latex gloves. Working at a rescue mission for four years desensitized my nose, but also helped me see that folks are just doing the best they can more often than not.

  9. You make a great point about keeping in mind why people start blogging in the first place and staying passionate about the subject. It can be really tough to keep coming up with topics, and really saddening when a favorite blog stops posting.

  10. Why would anyone make a comment like that?
Politeness and kindness seems to be taking a backseat to rudeness these days.
I've thought frequently about trying google ad sense on the blog, but I just can't seem to pull the plug.

A lot of blogs I followed have quit or gone on long pauses. I've never had that feeling I think because I keep it so varied.
