IS BLACK ONE OF YOUR FAVE COLORS?

Do you think that black cats are a bad thing? When I was a kid, my mom pounded in my head that  a black cat crossing your path is serious bad luck, and for years I believed that.  Don't ask me how, but eventually, I got past that superstition. Eventually after joining the USAF, I ended up getting Skye, my black Persian cat, who was eventually stolen while she was at the veterinarian for a checkup.  No such thing as cameras or android phones back then.

True fully black Persians are rare, but I thought it was okay to leave her in the case in the waiting room while I went to the restroom.  For Pete's sake, I was in an office that treated pets, right?  When I came back, she was gone and I was devastated.

Anywho, now I think that black is elegant, unusual and classy and decided to share some really neat items dedicated to this phenomenal color.  And it's a great way to focus on Halloween.

It's almost 2018, and hard to understand that 1 in 8  women in the United States will get breast cancer at some point in their lives, 1 in 17 women will get lung cancer, and 1 in 24 will get rectal or colon cancer.  This means that someone in your family or someone you know will be affected  by one of these cancers in your lifetime.  Some may not even tell you until it's too late!

About 3 years ago, a friend told me that she had breast cancer, and she looked fantastic.  Two months later - just like that - she died, and we were shocked. She didn't know she had it, then on top of that, once she was diagnosed, she didn't tell anyone until the last minute, knowing that she only had a short time left on this earth.  Early treatment is critical to saving a life.

If you've been reading this blog, you know I'm passionate about victims and survivors of domestic violence. For the past 30 years, October has been recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  Be aware of what's considered unhealthy, and to remember that abuse can happen to anyone regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or economic status.  Also keep in mind that YOU are not to blame.

  1. Hi RO, Oh my gosh, I'm SO SORRY about your cat! I would have gone ape-sh*t. Nobody saw anything? That's insane. Seriously you can't trust anyone anymore, I firmly believe we're in a "fend for yourself" society these days, it's really disappointing...we need a good ice age to thin out the nasty people from this world lol...Nice black images! I love those bookcases and the hat! :)

Very good message about domestic abuse. I'm sure most victims really do start to get brainwashed about the abuse being deserved. I used to be in such a situation many moons ago and I really did think it was all my fault. It's a hard mentality to let go of, but I'm really in a good place now with Alex. It's hard to believe that I was once a victim like that.

    Sending hugs xxx

    1. I was just a kid back then, and was so hurt to lose my baby. I cried and searched everywhere. I'm a real fan of Persians because they're so laid back and fluffy. I always try to have them as pets. Aren't those bookcases so fun? I'm so glad you got away and found someone who deserves you Rain. Hugs...

  4. Black is certainly in season, and it must have been the year your Persian was stolen. From the Vet's waiting area, no less! My dog Bear was stolen, but from my back yard (his fenced in pen, not a public place. The devastation is when you finally give up hope and realize you are never going to see them again.

You shared a LOT of black with us. I have black lipstick and nail polish, and wear NEITHER. Got them for Halloween one year. I really like the cake, the hat, and the pumpkin. They are fabulous. Not fond of the nails, though.

I had a friend who died recently of breast cancer and another that has just gone through chemo and had a double mastectomy. She has kept me updated all along the way, and I am so glad she is now feeling so much better again. She waited and waited because she couldn't deal with the C word. She'll be fine now, at least for awhile. And you know I feel strongly about any kind of abuse, whether it's domestic, the elderly, children, or simply being bullied. These abusers need to be put in prison.

    1. It was such a painful surprise for sure, Elizabeth, and back then to not have cameras or cell phones available to know what happened. I just prayed that she ended up in a good home once I got past my anger and sadness. I'm so sorry that Bear was lost to you. I know it had to have been tragic for sure. I have black lipstick, but that's not something I even have the courage to wear. (lol) I would go out on a limb with the nails though. That cake is so glamourous. You had to have been devastated to have lost your friend to this horrible illness, and I'm thrilled that things are going well for your other friend. I'm also happy that she kept you updated. We're kindred spirits when it comes to abuse of any kind, and I wish we could rid the world of it all. HUGE Hugs...RO

  5. That is horrible that your cat would vanish like this, there is no excuse for what happened, your cat should have been safe right there...

I was also taught all the superstitions about black cats but have never had a problem associated with one, in other words they don't scare me.

As for domestic violence I could really get onto my soapbox, I totally agree with you that victims of this abuse are not to blame and that all of the abusers should be made to pay for what they have done, it's sad that they get away with it for so long and that the victims are made to feel as if they should hide the abuse and protect the abuser...

    1. I was so devastated Jimmy, and of course back in the 80's no such thing as cell phones, and there were no cameras in the vet office. No one even noticed because she was in her crate. I ended up getting other cats later, but it took me a while. I just prayed that she ended up in a good home. I definitely hear you on the abuse thing. It has gone on for so many years, and many people still pretend like it doesn't exist, or as you said, blame it on the victim. I just wish the violence and hurt would all go away. Hugs...RO

  6. Omg, I'm so sorry to hear about your cat!! That's crazy. I mean, even without cameras and stuff, having your cat stolen from the VET? Now what you expect!

I actually like the color black. I'm so curious about this black ice cream I see around. And that coffin bookcase...I admit, I love it. haha

Thanks for sharing about domestic violence awareness month and breast cancer awareness month. That is just awful your friend passed so quick!

That is absolutely horrible that someone stole your cat out of the waiting room. Where was the receptionist? I am so sorry. I'm with you, I can't believe that happened. Persians are the best cats in the world. They have such wonderful temperaments.

    1. Sadly, like you, many of my friends or people I know have been plagued with some type of cancer, and it makes me feel so helpless. I'm glad your friends are being healed. I was just a kid at the time, and ended up getting other cats, but I always think about her. I agree, I love how laid back they are and fluffy. (lol) Hugs right back...RO

  18. I cannot believe that someone would steal your cat like that. How mean. I had a black cat that I adored, but he ran away. I never had a pet do that before. We saw him a few months later at a neighbors house and since we were PCSing, we let him stay with him rather than uproot him. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend.

  23. My name is DOROTHY LISA, I want to share a great testimony on this website on how great a man called Prophet Abulele helped me in getting pregnant, me and my husband have been trying to have a baby for over 12 years, but they were no luck so we decided to contact the family doctor and after all the test have been done, he said to us that my Fallopian tube is not functioning. then one day I was in the office when a friend of mine who had the same problem with me, got her baby after she contacted Prophet Abulele. she directed me to him and when I contacted him through his email: prophetabulelehealingtemple@gmail.com and he prayed for me and sent me an herbal medicine, which I took for few days and in 3 weeks’ time, as he told me, i was feeling somehow and I went to meet the family doctor who told me that I am pregnant. if you know that you have a similar problem like this, or any fertility issue and you want to be pregnant you can contact Prophet Abulele: prophetabulelehealingtemple@gmail.com OR WhatsApp him on +2349022406159

  24. I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
