For those of you who don't know, I'm a HUGE fan of Martha Stewart. Not only is she a Leo like me, but she's brilliant, super funny, and can do just about anything. Who do you know who can cook, decorate, DIY, sew, create a profitable magazine, become the 1st female billionaire in the US, hang out with Snoop Dogg, develop a food delivery service, judge cooking programs like Chopped, act model, and just be a regular girl boss? So I'm giving a shout out to my girl crush Martha Stewart. Happy Birthday, girl! (August 3) By the way, there is a blogger bud I have who comes pretty close to being able to doing just about everything, and she's good at them all. I tell her all the time that she reminds me of Martha. Check out Rain from http://www.rainfrances.com/
Most people think about the Sahara located in Africa as being the biggest desert in the world at 3.3 million square miles. That's a lot, and it is certainly the hottest, but Antarctica is actually the largest at 5.5 million square miles. It's also the coldest, driest and windiest!
I have no idea how, but despite temps that can sometimes reach 127 degrees Fahrenheit, people and even some animals do actually reside in the Sahara. But if you're thinking about escaping the sunny weather where you are and moving to Antarctica, you're out of luck. Seals, whales, penguins and other cold weather animals can live there, but other than the researchers who visit periodically, all that extreme cold weather and lack of water make it impossible for people to stay there year round.

If you ever doubt that romance exists outside of novels, here's a perfect example that it's flourishing, and a reminder that broken heart syndrome is an actual medical thing. Herbert DeLaigle , 94 and his wife Marilyn, 88 passed away earlier this month just 12 hours apart after 71 years of wedded bliss. Marilyn was a waitress in a cafe that caught Herbert's eye, and after gathering up the courage to ask her out, they married 1 year later. They left behind 6 children, 16 grandkids, 25 great grandkids and 3 great-great grandkids.

Are you a reader and always looking for new books? I've been blessed with writer friends and book bloggers who give great recommendations, which I love, but every once in awhile I check in @subwaybookreview on Instagram to see what people are reading on their way to work, school or other places. Even if you don't have instagram, this is a great way to find out about new authors or to meet new friends while you're out and about. What are you reading these days?
Speaking of books. Did you know that July 30 is National Paperback Book Day? That's the perfect reason for me to add to my already huge book piles(lol) If you'd like to score some free books, be sure to visit www.paperbackswap.com, www.bookmooch.com, www.bookbub.com,

In Manville New Jersey it is illegal to offer cigarettes or whiskey to animals in the local zoo.
In Newark New Jersey it is illegal to sell ice cream after 6pm unless the customer has a note from his doctor.
In Trenton New Jersey, pickles are not to be consumed on Sundays.
It seems like it was just yesterday, but another year is here, and if you've been reading this blog, you already know that next month means it's all about Leos who are celebrating birthdays.
If you're feeling generous on August 12, I'll take any and all trips to the luxurious country of Switzerland which has been on my bucket list for years, and lots of cheeseburgers please. (lol)
If either of these don't work right now, could you please take a moment to donate your time, expertise, socks, hygiene items or cash to a homeless shelter or domestic violence center? Or maybe hug a stranger or two just because? Sometimes that's the push that makes someone feel better, and ready to press on for another day.
I love that big hamburger bed! Well, cheeseburger, to be more accurate.
ReplyDeleteIf there was a way I could fit that in my houser, I would definitely be on board Debra!(lol) Hugs, RO
DeleteAnother great post with lots of info RO!
ReplyDeleteAs for the the bottle...a frozen mushroom (wink, wink)
Martha Stewart is amazingly talented and congrats to being a woman who canmake it on her own.
I did not realize that about Antarctica. Beautiful place to visit in a documentary but the animals can have the place all to themselves :)
Have a Great Day and Big Hugs~
BTW...I am a Leo, too!
Yay! Another Leo! When is your birthday Jan? I need to write it down in my Planner so I don't forget again. The mushroom scenario certainly works for me(lol) Martha Stewart is truly a fantastic person. I love the cold weather, but I think that trying to live in Antarctica for even 3 days would be too much for me Jan.(lol) Hope your day is amazing! Hugs, RO
DeleteFirst pic... OH-MY!!!!!!!! LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
ReplyDeleteDitto on that one! (lol)
DeleteWhen we were in Holland, years ago, we saw beautiful Gardens.
ReplyDeleteHow can big lots of stuff, get into one's house, without you bringing it in? Have to look at the web site, I guess. But we don't do that kind of shopping.
Old Laws, still on the books! Crazy!
Oh if someone gives you a trip to Switzerland, may I pack myself, in your suitcase? :-) I'd love to visit there toooooo. ,-)
Happy Birthday Time!!!!
My husband just had his, he is a Leo too!!!!
Sending some Leo hugs out to your hubby and belated birthday! If I get that trip I'll definitely shoot you an email!(lol) I guess the delivery person brings it in so you don't have to maybe? I would be grateful because getting it all out of the car, then having to walk to the house with these huge items, then put them all away could get on my nerves.(lol) I don't shop in bulk like that either.(lol) Oh wow, I bet you have some great pics of your trip to Holland! Hugs, RO
DeleteI am writing comments, and they are disappearing on me.
ReplyDelete-sigh-
Got 2 to publish.
I think there may have been a problem earlier. All seems well now. Hugs, RO
DeleteSo, what I learned today is that Jersey is crazy. LoL
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, Martha is amazing. I wish I could do half the stuff she does.
Hey Kristin! Does seem like there's a lot going on in New Jersey for sure(lol) I agree. If I could meet her for just 5 minutes, I would be so thrilled! Hugs, RO
DeleteI did not know that a group of ferrets is called a business, but in many cases, a business deserves to be called a group of rodents of some sort.
ReplyDeleteMaybe ice just has a natural tendency to form like that?
I wonder why new Jersey is so bossy about food? Was Chris Christie trying to keep as much ice cream as possible for himself?
I don't have a birthday in August, but my blog will turn 13 years old.
Bookmarked the work-at-home job list site for future research, thanks.
The gardens are magnificent.
I've heard it is actually fairly common for the deaths of spouses to be close together. After being married for a whole lifetime, I imagine losing a spouse is a serious shock to the survivor, especially if elderly.
Antarctica is one of my favorite responses to people who believe we'll colonize Mars someday. Antarctica has Earth-normal gravity and breathable air. Its temperature extremes are not as bad as on Mars. People could get plenty of water by melting ice. And it's much closer than Mars, making it much easier and cheaper to get to. Yet no country has ever tried to put permanent self-sustaining colonies there the way 17th-century European countries did in the Americas. If colonizing Antarctica is too difficult to be practical, Mars would be even more so.
LOL!!!!!! OMG - that pic from Patrick's blog is amazing and so funny! Lots going on in New Jersey it appears. Yay to you for 13 years of blogging fun. That's quite an accomplishment. Good luck on finding something that pays tons of money on the working from home front. I've seen some great ones there. That's fascinating info about Antarctica vs Mars and makes me wonder why no one focuses more on living there permanently because it makes a lot of sense. You always have this really great info, which I love because it's ultimately great trivia to know. By the way, if I could find a way, I would totally live in Antarctica as long as I could get cable, Internet and cheeseburgers.(lol) Adore it when you stop by to visit! Hugs, RO
DeleteI know someone who has a birthday on August 12, but I'm not going to say who it is, even though you twist my arm.
ReplyDeleteI think the shape of the bottle caused the ice to form and melt in that way. It is laughable at least.
I can't believe it. Just today I showed images from Keukenhof Gardens. Great minds must think alike. I'd love to go there when they are open (March to May).
I tell people to donate socks to the homeless. I do it about every six months. I buy a package of socks and send it to the local shelter. They need them. I understand Bombas donates socks if you buy theirs. However, they are so expensive, I'll save money and buy socks I can actually afford.
Have a super incredible day, dear friend.
I know that same person dear Elizabeth, and even though she's getting a year older, she's super excited. about another birthday(lol) I agree, it's laughable and weird. That is strange how we think of doing things around the same time, even when it comes to mailing each other stuff. Magical minds. Thanks so much for reminding others of the need for socks for the homeless and for giving them when you can. They are very much needed in shelters or on the streets for sure and definitely make a difference. I agree, thank goodness these are readily available at good prices at thrift stores, Walmart, Dollar General or the Dollar Tree. I hope your weekend is a good one! Hugs, RO
DeleteThat was a lot of fun things but we will pass on the cold water!
ReplyDeleteLOL! You always have something fun to say which I adore. Hope all is well! Hugs, RO
DeleteLOl the water bottle ;)
ReplyDeleteI can't top that
It definitely makes you do a double take!(lol) Hugs, RO
DeleteThat water bottle picture is too funny.
ReplyDeleteI thought so too, Marvelous Mary!(lol) Hugs, RO
DeleteLove gardens, and books.
ReplyDeleteAnd would LOVE to live in Antarctica. Sigh.
Happy birthday in advance.
May it be book, love and laughter filled.
That water bottle? All I can think of is someone snapping a photo of a person drinking from it...
I know you're a garden fan, and you've shown us some fabulous ones! Of course, I can't live without my books, which make the world go 'round. Like you, I would love to live in Antarctica. The solitude, the cold weather and endless beauty truly intrigues me. I just haven't figured out how yet.(lol) And on the water bottle - your sense of humor always makes me smile(lol) Hugs, RO
DeleteI've been lucky to have visited one of the gardens - Keukenhof, in Holland.
ReplyDeleteEven if possible I wouldn't like to live in frozen Antarctica!
I too would love to be able to work from home.
Lol the water bottle, very funny :)
Enjoy the rest of the week RO
I checked out the Box website. I'll have to compare it to the stores I shop at. My concern is, where will I store 150 paper plates? haha
ReplyDeleteHmm, the ice looks like a mushroom to me. Not sure what everyone else sees. :)
Have a great weekend!
Elsie
I hear you on the storage and have the same problem, but some of those prices are pretty amazing. The mushroom sounds good to me, Elsie! (lol) Hope your day is amazing! Hugs, RO
DeleteThe first pic is so funny, I also love Martha, she is so talented!☺
ReplyDeleteThat pic definitely had me laughing too.(lol) I just adore Martha so much! Hugs, RO
DeleteWhat a fun Post, thanks for the laughs which brightened up this very hot day. The ice bottle cracked me up! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI had a few giggles too Valerie, and glad it made your day. Hugs, RO
DeleteHi RO :) Oh my gosh, I laughed a the Martha gif and thought to myself, I need some champagne to guzzle, then saw what you wrote about me. You're so sweet! Martha is my idol!! :) Thanks so much. xx
ReplyDeleteThat water bottle photo made me nearly spit my iced coffee up through my nose lol...how funny! I think I'm both a flower and garden person. Oh the cheeseburger bed is great!!! You need to find space for one! :) Funny about the pickles lol...
What a great post, RO! It is really full of helpful information, as always. Thank you for putting this together and for sharing it. I learned a lot here.
ReplyDeleteI’m checking out the Work at Home link as soon as I finish typing here. Keep up the good work.
Wishing you all the best!
Thanks so much for all your lovely and kind words. They are much appreciated! Good luck with finding something via that link too! Hugs and Happy Day! RO
DeleteI love gardening and leaving my huge butterfly garden behind in my move has been the thing I miss most. I do plan on going to a few beautiful sounding gardens in Portland soon and we seem to have a flower festival every month here (WA).
ReplyDeleteKaren @ For What It's Worth
I totally suck at gardening(lol) but I do love to look at all the work that others put in. I can imagine you are sick about leaving such a beautiful garden behind, and hope you are able to rebuild soon. That's very cool about a monthly flower festival too! Happy Sunday Karen! RO
DeleteAnd that bottle...LMAO
ReplyDeleteIt is something that makes you laugh, right Karen?(lol) Hugs
DeleteQuite the interesting ice sculpt. Ha.
ReplyDeleteNice of you to want to play it forward on your bday.
Hugs,
I sure thought it was fun, Super Sandra and giggled a little(lol) I hope someone does something kind for a person who is suffering from abuse or homeless. Every little act of kindness is appreciated. Sure hope your Saturday is filled with lots of fun! Hugs, RO
DeleteI am always impressed with all the interesting things you put in your posts RO. Great job as always :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by, and your kind words are always appreciated. Hope you have the best Saturday ever! Hugs, RO
DeleteOh wow, the bottle... LMAO... At this point I think I would take living in Antarctica, it has been so hot here in Florida that I am really missing living in Tennessee.. UGH.
ReplyDeleteI love the cold weather, and wish I could find a way to live there too. Like you, it's been so hot here in NC. I know you miss TN, and hope things will be okay in Florida. I'm always keeping you in prayer. That bottle is something else, right?(lol) Hugs, RO
DeleteGood, interesting stuff, as usual in your posts.
ReplyDeleteYes, there is life in the desert, even in Sahara. Antarctica is also intriguing. Because of Climate Change, we'll be hearing more of the above two places.
Thanks for the kind words Duta! Antarctica is definitely a place I would love to learn more about and possibly visit. Hope your day is amazing! Hugs, RO
DeleteHey rockin Ro! You're back with a new post- yay! Hope you are well!
ReplyDeleteI did not know that about turtles or ferrets. Hmm. And I love how beautiful Antarctica is but yeah- probably a little too cold. :)
I lived in ND for a little while when in the Air Force, and something about the kindness and unity of the people really got me hooked on places with cold weather. I would love to visit Antarctica and at the very least build a super huge snowman.(lol) Happy Sunday to you Gorgeous Greg!
DeleteNo way would I survive the Sahara, but I'd give a few months in Antarctica a go... LOL
ReplyDeleteSo cute about that couple going strong all those years and going together like that.
Beautiful gardens.
Thanks for all the fun and interesting facts, Radiant Ro!
Ditton on the Sahara for me, Sophia. I've been struggling with the intense heat here in NC this summer for sure and don't want to go hotter.(lol) I thought that was so romantic too, and a worthy love story. Hope you've had a great weekend! Hugs, RO
DeleteThe ice would be popular at a bachelorette party.
ReplyDeleteNow that would be totally cool if I could find a way to clone that bottle(lol) Hugs and Happy Sunday! RO
DeleteMartha Stewart is one smart, savvy and talented lady.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day, Rockin Ro. The heat factor here is not too horrible today. So far only 86. Heh.
If I could meet her for just a day and have a cup of coffee, or a cheeseburger, I would be so happy.(lol) I hear the heat will be even hotter here today. Bring on January, please! (lol) Stay cool and sending some hugs your way! RO
DeleteLol at the frozen water in the bottle! It sure did melt in a funny way. :)
ReplyDeleteI thought that was pretty dang interesting for sure. (lol) Hugs, Nas! RO
DeleteI do love the names for a group of animals - like a group of crows is a murder, right? Interesting. How fun tomorrow is National Paperback Book Day!
ReplyDelete-Lauren
www.shootingstarsmag.net
It is cool the way they come up with those names for sure, Lovely Lauren! Yay, it's National Paperback Book Day! Hugs, RO
DeleteI had no idea there was a desert in Antarctica. Once again you've broadened my horizons:)
ReplyDeleteIt's so large and dry for sure, but for some reason because it's not hot, it's not considered a desert. I wish I could visit just for a week or two. Seems fascinating. Hope your Tuesday is Terrific! Hugs, RO
DeleteHi RO, another interesting read from start to finish. I thank you once again for the smiles.
ReplyDeleteAlways appreciate when you stop by Denise and hope your weekend has been great! Hugs, RO
DeleteOoh, I would so love to visit those gardens. I visit botanicals whenever possible.
ReplyDeleteNext time I read one of your rambling and fascinating posts, I'm going to write comments as I think them. I had about ten responses but the only one I remember is Martha Stewart rocks. She took prison like a boss!
ReplyDeleteTwo more days, and it will be Martha's birthday! Yay! I know there can be a lot of stuff going on here(lol), so glad you stopped by to hang out Jacqui! Hugs, RO
DeleteLOL! The water bottle picture is funny.
ReplyDeleteThe gardens look brilliant, I certainly wouldn't mind visiting them
Happy Birthday wishes to you, and all Leo's.
All the best Jan
I just checked out Boxed. The coffee prices looked good. I may try them next time.
ReplyDeleteHugs
So thrilled this worked out for you. I love a good deal too! Hugs, RO
DeleteLOL to the melting ice RO
ReplyDeleteI always look forward to your posts xo
Hey There Debbie and so thrilled you stopped by! I know you've been going through so much, and glad things are looking better these days! I thought the ice thing was fun too! (lol)
DeleteHappy Birthday to you!
ReplyDeleteAugust 12th is just around the corner, and I thank you so very much Suzanne! Hugs, RO
DeleteWhen's your birthday? Damn I've missed it! I hope you had a great day.
ReplyDeleteThat cheeseburger bed looks comfy but way too warm for me. It must be like sleeping under 10 duvets!
It's August 12, and I'm looking forward to my Switzerland tickets, Joey! (lol) It does look a little warm for me too, but it just looks so fun and inviting too! Hugs, RO
DeleteI didn't know Antartica counted as a desert. As I live in the Netherlands, I've actually been to the Keukenhof quite a few times when I was younger. I haven't been there for many years now.
ReplyDeleteI always liked how a group of rats is called a mischief. I didn't know the words for a group of ferrets and turtles, so that's fun to know.
I hope you have a great birthday!
I would love to visit the Netherlands, and bet you have great stories to tell, and plenty of wonderful pics too! It's really interesting how people come up with such unusual names for animal groups. I agree it seems fun to learn about. Thanks for the well wishes for the 12th! Hugs, RO
DeleteIt is interesting that Antartica is a desert (not dessert) But it makes since. My brother has been glooming me down with global warning news lately, so I'm keeping my mind out of Antartica...All good things to know frm you're end though, glad you keep it positive.
ReplyDeleteWhat interesting and myriad of information in this post! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your kind words and hope you're doing well! Hugs, RO
DeleteI ordered some coffee from Boxed. Thanks for the heads up, Rockin Ro.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Now that's very, very cool Super Sandra! I hope you love the coffee too! Super hugs to you! RO
DeleteI could not stop laughing at the ice photo your gf sent !! 😂😂😂
