STUFF YOU DON'T NEED

Who's had to renew their license lately?  Even though I arrived super early, you already know I wasn't the first customer, and the heat was sweltering.

Once called to the desk, I begged the examiner to let me use my picture from 5 years ago, where I looked least like a deranged psycho but he wasn't having it.  He told me when he turned 70 he wanted to use his photo from when he was 36, but his request was also declined. (lol)  So in 2-3 weeks I can expect to be tortured again when I receive my brand new license in the mail. Ugh!

Those of us under 66 should all just move to Arizona.  Drivers' licenses don't have to be renewed there for 12 years!

FROZEN MIMOSA
Whisk together 2 cups of champagne, 1 cup of fresh orange juice and 1/4 cup ginger or orange liqueur(like Triple Sec) in a pitcher.  Pour the mixture into 2-3 standard ice cube trays, freezing until totally firm, preferably overnight.  Transfer the frozen cubes to a blender, processing until smooth and frothy.  Pour into 4 flutes or tall glasses, topping off with more champagne.  Garnish with orange wedges.  Yum!

Caroline Earle White and several other women helped to establish the first animal shelter  in Philadelphia on April 14, 1869, and it was called The Women's Humane Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.  Now known as the Women's Animal Center (WAC), they are still saving the lives of abused and homeless pets by providing forever homes and affordable health care.  To find out more info on how you can help, please visit https://womensanimalcenter.org/

YIKES!  Have you ever suspected that some of your fast food was missing when it arrived to your home?

According to US Foods who recently surveyed food service employees and about 1500 people who enjoy fast food delivery,  28% of the drivers got hungry and took or tasted the food before it arrived to their customer's home.  Ironically, 21% of customers suspected this was actually going on, but couldn't prove it.  Despite this tomfoolery, customers have on average 2 food apps on their phones and still order from restaurants about 3 times per month.

By the way, do you know that loud hunger rumble you hear from your tummy has a really strange name called borborygmi?  It sounds weird, but it's gas moving around in the intestines.

Are you a fan of shoes?  If you've got millions laying around the house, you can purchase 2 of the world's most expensive to grace your closet.

Tom Ford's all diamond men's shoe custom designed by Jason Arasheben took almost a year to finish and is worth $2 million.  With 14,000 round diamonds totalling 340 carats, I would be afraid to even wear them outside.

Debbie Wingham went even further and designed a woman's high heeled shoe shoe with blue and pink diamonds, 18 carat gold thread, and platinum.  How much will these shoes set you back?  An astounding $15 million! www.beautifulife.com

Keep your eyes peeled for a special giveaway here on the blog later this month, but until then...Do you enjoy reading and can't get to add another book to your pile?  Our Blogger Bud Lauren is celebrating 12 years of blogging with a special contest where you can win a year's worth of books  at
https://shootingstarsmag.net/years-worth-of-books-giveaway/

Just in case you forgot - it's August, and look at what I received as an early birthday gift from Beautiful Blogger Bud Elizabeth of http://alteredbooklover.blogspot.com/
New 2020 Planner, Stickers, Gift Card to McDonalds, and the cool wrapping paper Elizabeth made!
This is the package it came. Where did Elizabeth find these perfect stamps?!
This is the opened calendar from up above that I started working on - Yay!
Elizabeth is an incredible talented artist, and exceptionally thoughtful person who I just adore, and her site is pretty dang amazing.  Not only does she talk about art, but museum visits, historical expertise and Tuesday Trips to various restaurants is just interesting to read about.  Even better, she has this witty sense of humor that makes me smile all the time.

Elizabeth made this!

Then, Beautiful Blogger Bud Adria from  https://adriasromancereviews.blogspot.com   sent handmade Harry Potter Washi Tape which is just perfect and fun! Adria is a book blogger and movie watcher who also happens to be artistically gifted.  Like me, she's addicted to washi tape!(lol)

  1. Celebrate your birthday the whole month. And revel in every day.
Official photos should be classified as cruel and unusual punishment shouldn't they?
Lauren's offer is incredibly generous, and I do love the gifts you have received. Totally deserved gifts.

  3. Every driver's license picture I've ever had makes me look like a serial killer or a terminal drunk. I think the DMV recruits its photographers from among people who used to work on horror movies. They should let us bloggers use our blog avatar pictures on our driver's licenses.

I've never ordered food delivered, and now I never will. It's hard enough to trust restaurants sometimes.

A year's worth of books? Better break out the forklift. You don't know how fast I can read.

Your blogging friends' art looks a lot better than those ridiculous shoes. What kind of narcissist spends millions of dollars on a pair of shoes?

Thanks for another eclectic collection. By the way, is RO a set of initials? I assume that because you capitalize both letters, but it keeps making me think of Ensign Ro from Star Trek.

    1. I fear you may be right about the people who we actually have to pay to look like we've been in a horror film(lol) I totally agree that we should be allowed to use out blog avatars or at the very least, a picture of a cat.(lol) I don't do food delivery either, and like you, it won't happen here either. That's very cool to know that you're a fast reader. I bet you have a huge library. LOL! You crack me up!(lol) The narcissist who actually purchased the men's shoes happened to be none other than the very funny Nick Cannon aka ex Mr. Mariah Carey. The artwork is definitely fab for sure. I'm a HUGE fan of Star Trek, but in one of my blogs a while ago, I mentioned that RO is actually a shortened derivative of my real name, which people have butchered over the years. It's been a nickname for awhile, but it's all in caps as my brand. I just adore your sense of humor, and imagine you were something else as a kid. (lol) Hugs, RO

    3. At a rough estimate, I have a little over one cubic yard of books. I've actually read them all, too, aside from things like dictionaries.

I wonder what happens if you want to buy a $15,000,000 pair of shoes and it turns out they're slightly the wrong size. Do they run to the back of the store to see if they have another pair in stock that's the right size?

      Delete
    4. I'd like to say that I've read all the books in my massive TBR pile which continues to grow, but it would take years to finish. Wouldn't that be fun to see regarding the shoe size mess?(lol) Hugs,

  4. I heard a good idea about license photos... you should make yourself look bleary-eyed and wasted. Then if you get pulled over for DUI, you can say, "See? I always look like this."

  5. I like bluzdude's idea for your license photo. I can't wait to get another photo. I look like a prison inmate and I was bloated. I would rather have this older face than that one. The guy at TSA when looking at my license looked at me and said, "really?" I said yes, really, they take lousy photos at the DMV. He wasn't buying it but I didn't need his remarks either.

  7. In KS, we get a new license every four years. No driving, just an eye test, unless you have a problem with tickets, which I've not. GEt a DUI and you have to add a "thing" to your car, where you breathe into it before the car will start. This lasts for five years and costs about $70.00 a month, or so I have been told.

Wow to the washi tape. It looks like people love YOU, too, dear. And I'm loving what your new August calendar looks like. You will enjoy all those stickers and I have some similar to that which came from our favorite dollar store.

Thanks for the shout out, dear. You deserve even more, but I'm glad you like your gift. Hope you have a couple or three cheeseburgers on me on your birthday. I don't go to McDonald's, so have no idea how much a cheeseburger costs.

Enjoy your birthday and Lazy Day, too, dear friend.

    1. At one time here, we had to actually take the written test AND vision, but now it's just vision, and they ask you to read the top line of something. I had a friend who is now a pastor who had that in his car because he had a DUI. That was a serious wakeup call for him for sure. His life is totally different now. Washi Tape - yay!!!! I've already been enjoying those stickers, and thank you so very much. Yep, I've been to McDonald's too(lol) You really know me well and I appreciate you bunches. Thanks and thanks again! Enjoy Lazy Day and sending lots and lots of hugs your way. RO

  9. I went to Adria's site to tell her how much I liked the washi tape she sent you. However, I have to join a site called Discuss (or something) which shares my e-mail address. I feel bad because I can't compliment her, but I won't join a site that shares my e-mail address publicly on the web.

    1. I have a separate e-mail address which is real and valid but which I never use or give out to people for contact -- I only have it so I can use it when signing up for things that require a valid e-mail. Setting up an e-mail address is pretty easy, and some services don't require any info from you at all, just ask you to set up a username and password. There's no limit to how many e-mail addresses one person can have, so you might as well have a throwaway one for stuff like that.

  22. I had to go down and renew my license a couple of years ago. It was such a hassle for me because I don't have a cell phone. They asked for my phone number to use to have my number come up on the screen when I'm called. The only problem is that if you don't have a cell phone the screen won't show your number for some stupid reason. So I had to keep going up and telling them that my number never got called and they wouldn't believe me. The last time she put my number up on the screen again and I motioned her to come look and see for herself that it wasn't up on the screen. She looked at it and couldn't understand until she asked me if it was a cell phone number I used. When I said no, she said well that explains it. She didn't bother explaining it to me though. lol

I followed the link from Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog and find so much in this post I feel a connection to, starting with frustrating license renewal experiences lol I had a Mimosa for the recent National Champagne Day but have never had a frozen one. It looks quite refreshing -cold! Pizza is the only food I've ever had delivered, and I'm thinkin' I could probably tell if parts had been picked off. I've never tried the meal delivery options out there, but then I've never tried Uber or Lyft either so I'm very behind the times.

I've never been much of a shoe person. Barefoot is my favorite footwear. I'm thinking of all the books I could get with the amount of money that was spent on one of those pairs of shoes lol My Marie Kondo experiment helped, but my books still overwhelm my available space, as do the DVDs *sigh*
