OVEN-FRIED BUTTERMILK CHICKEN & OLD SCHOOL TELEVISION

If you love fried chicken without the headache and mess, this recipe is super simple to make.

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees, then coat a jelly roll pan with cooking spray.  Pour 1 1/2 cups buttermilk into a bowl.  In a separate bowl, combine 1 pkg dry corn muffin mix, 1/2 cup seasoned dry breadcrumbs, 3 Tbs chopped fresh cilantro, 1 1/2 Tsp Garlic Powder, 1 1/2 Tsp Onion Powder, 1 1/2 Tsp Salt, 1/4 Tsp Cayenne Powder.  Dip 4 Lbs Chicken parts into the buttermilk, then coat with the breadcrumb mixture. Place on the pan.  Spray chicken with cooking spray.

Bake for about 40 minutes or until the meat is no longer pink near bone.  Enjoy this recipe from Carla Hall!

The other day I was channel surfing and realized how television has truly changed over the years.  In fact, nothing seems similar at all.

Do you remember any of these programs?

Big Valley
Gunsmoke
Bonanza
The Love Boat
Beverly Hillbillies
I Dream of Jeannie
Bewitched
Hart to Hart
Leave it to Beaver

Today we have:

The Seven Year Switch
Real Housewives
Basketball Wives
Love and Hip Hop
The Bachelor
Dancing With the Stars

I enjoy a lot of the programs that are on now, but I sure miss a few of the oldies. What about you?  Do you wish a few of your faves would come back?

  1. Your fried buttermilk chicken looks delicious, Ro, I just may try that one day :)

I don't watch much TV anymore, apart from some of those that are similar to those I watched when I was younger... CSI, NCIS, Hawaii 5-0, plus some sci-fi ones like Orphan Black.

    Have a great weekend!

    1. I love fried chicken and this is half the work which I really appreciate! I still watch Gibbs on occasion. Everyone is talking about Orphan Black so I'll have to check that out. Happy weekend right back to you, Lexxie! Hugs...

  2. I, too, miss a lot of the old shows. The only current show I watch regularly is "Blue Bloods." I have one show to add to your list "The Dick Van Dyke" show. Thanks for the post, and have a great weekend!

    1. Oh my goodness! I love Blue Bloods too! One of the networks likes to show the first season up until 2014, so I've been able to catch up. That Walburgh kid is amazing! I remember Dick Van Dyke and enjoyed that too! Happy Saturday to you! Hugs...

  3. That chicken recipe looks to be just my thing. And agreed, I miss the golden oldies of TV even while I appreciate some of the new stuff. I cracked up over Dobie Gillis, Andy Griffith, and Gillighan (sp).

  4. I love fried chicken and this looks so much easier to do. Thanks for the recipe. I do miss a few old shows like, the old Beauty and the Beast and The Twilight Zone. I don't really watch too much reality TV because the shows just aren't good.

  5. I grew up watching The Love Boat and Fantasy Island. Those were must-see TV in the 70s/80s! I love the idea of fried chicken you can make in the oven. I'm not a big fan of frying things in grease. It always pops and stings me!

  6. Mmmmmmmmm! Chicken! It's funny you should mention the TV thing, I've been watching my nieces an it's so funny to see just the change in cartoons they watch today compared to just a few years ago. Lol
