WHAT DO YOU EAT NOW, THAT YOU HATED AS A KID?

When I was a kid, my parents made sure I ate just about every vegetable known to man, and it was the pits!  As I got older though, Woolworth's (Cheeseburgers/Fries) or Kentucky Fried Chicken became my favorite restaurants of choice.  As a popular and perky social butterfly, I was very much involved in community activities and clubs, causing me to miss out on dinner in many instances, so I wasn't mad about missing all those meals.

Yes, it's much much healthier,  but I'll never be a vegetarian because cheeseburgers call my name all the time. (Sorry all my veggie friends-lol) Still, these days I enjoy broccoli, collard greens, tomatoes and brussel sprouts to ensure I get those vitamins everyone says you're supposed to have.   I've even been known to eat a nice salad - but it must have some steak or chicken in it, please. Oops, I almost forgot about my kimchi.  Yes, yes, I love that stuff!

What about you?  Is your diet entirely different now that you're an adult?  Do you crave certain foods?  Do your kids like vegetables?

APPLE'S SIRI
The other day I read a really good article about a kid's fascination with Siri, and it was really funny.  As the story unfolded, the mother said, "it's not like Siri is real". Well... Susan Bennett, the very famous and probably very tired by now voice that you hear at Delta Airlines, or even for Coca-Cola ads, walks around the neighborhood just like you and I. And nope, she's not a computer. But she had no idea that her voice would be used as the North American Siri, the voice we all know and hear pretty regularly via the iPhone.

In fact, Apple didn't pay her, other than for the initial US text to voice recording that was completed all the way back in 2005. That's how Apple originally heard her voice.  But sometimes the enunciation of a word or name is not quite right.  Most of us probably live with it, but not Barbra Streisand. Nope - she got irritated enough to call straight to the top to have the way her name was pronounced changed.  Sure enough, during the next update, that correction was made. (lol) Despite that, Ms. Bennett does pretty well, but don't ask her to explain exactly how well! (lol)   Did you also know that there are Siri's all around the world? You'll find a different voice in Japan, Australia, China and more! Isn't that neat?!

2018 OLYMPIC FACT MAY SURPRISE YOU
A new record has been set that's not well known, and no medals will be awarded.  Slightly over 2900 athletes are participating in the Olympics this year, and over 110,000 condoms have been distributed. Wow!

  1. I ate a lot of stuff as a kid because my mom wanted to make sure that we at least tried new to us foods. I didn't mind vegetables and still don't but back then I didn't like brussel sprouts and now I love them. But my mom wasn't a great cook and would just boil the hell out of them and serve them to us. I saute mine with onions and sometimes pieces of bacon and they are much better. I still don't like liver though.

I think the only thing I really didn't like when I was little was olives, and I love those now :)
I hope you're having a great week, Ro! *hugs*

  3. My mother was seriously anti-processed food and anti-junk food so of course as soon as I was on my own I basically consisted on Little Debbie Cakes, microwave dinners and all the snack food I could think of. I've evened out a little now but I still love my junk food! On a healthier note I used to hate summer squash and now it's one of my favorite things. Lima beans haven't made the jump to positive though. I don't see myself liking htem anytime soon!

    1. Kudos to mom for being on the healthy tip, right? We ate healthy on most occasions, but every once in a while, my mom would throw in a TV Dinner for good measure! (lol) Yay to microwaves and Little Debbie Cakes!!!!!No, no, no to squash in any form, but I will eat Lima Beans on occassion. BIG Hugs...

  4. We didn't grow up eating a lot of vegetable as my step mother wasn't much into cooking... when she did it was just basic vegetables... now I eat lots of colorful peppers, zucchini and broccoli... the more veggies the better... I am at my best when eating them, I feel so much better, it's too bad they are so expensive xox

You'd think that would mean that I love eating veggies, but that is not the case. I still dislike eating them and find that I need to hide them in my dinners. I actually had a good laugh with my mom about the one time I came home, made mac n cheese, and put pureed butternut squash in the cheese sauce. LoL My family was not overly on board with that.

  24. I sincerely apologize for being so late visiting. I would have been by sooner, but I ate something at dinner last night that did not set well and I got very ill. I still haven’t recovered. I think it was the potatoes in the potato soup I made.

My tastes have changed slightly since I was a child. I've always loved fruits and veggies, but I also liked Jello until I learned it was made from horse hoofs. Now you couldn't pay me to appreciate it, no matter how many carrots and pineapple you added to it.

I used to like coconut, but can't stand the taste of it anymore. I've never liked grits and that is true to this day, and I hate boiled okra. Talk about slime. Of course, nothing tastes good tonight.

I have to admit, I was quite surprised about the Olympic stats. I'm not a prude, but I guess I would not have expected the Olympic Committee to pass them out. Maybe it was the souvenir factor. Of course, it's good that they did this.

YouTube is another of those Google owned subsidies. That's one of the reasons I don't watch YouTube videos and do internet searches using Google. I prefer my privacy, thank you.

I'm so sorry that you were feeling under the weather, and hope you're on the mend. LOL! OMG - I had no idea about the horse hoofs and jello, and thank goodness I haven't eaten any in awhile. I agree, no amount of adding other things would allow me to get that now either! I'm no fan of okra either, and only use coconut if it calls for small amounts in recipes. I wouldn't eat an entire coconut cake. I laughed at those stats because I thought all those kids are thinking about winning medals and wouldn't have time for anything else, but apparently I'm off base. (lol) I use a Planner to keep track of my appointments, surveys and other tasks. I also document a lot of things like cooking, blog titles, etc. But decorating it actually relaxes me for some strange reason. I sure hope you feel much better today! Hugs...RO
