*Janet said her husband conversationally told her that someone had called him fat while he was at work. She responded that he looked fine to her, and that to her he looked like he'd been losing weight.
In a show of support, she innocently asked, "who in the world would say that?" When he responded "none of your business", she thought he was joking. Thinking nothing of it, she asked again. She told me that not only did he give the same response, but he did so angrily, and that it was no big deal. Janet told him if it's no big deal why didn't he want her to know who said it, and what's the problem? He then yelled that she needed to stop asking questions, or he was really going to get mad and tear something up in the house. Say what?
*Not real name
Years ago I used to really get into who would win best picture, with parties and contests, but now I just watch for the outfits and performances. Anywho, those who were fortunate enough to be nominated should be thrilled even if they don't win because they really score with a Swag Bag filled worth over $100,000!
What could cost that much? Color changing lipstick, a 6 night stay in Hawaii in a 2 bedroom room luxury villa, a 12 night stay and tour in Tanzania that costs $40,000, and a whole lot more! Would you really be upset if you didn't win that Oscar?
One of the things that I never understood is that people are there early, sweating and hoping it won't their outfits won't get messed up, taking pictures, walking the red carpet and just sort of hanging out for hours before the actual event.
Then you have to be aerobically ready to make it up all those dang steps, and still look glamorous or sexy.
After that, there are all these parties, more sweating, more eating and more pictures. By this time, a few people are pretty wasted.(lol)
If it were me, I'd get there no more 10 minutes before, looking fabulous and picture ready, and as one of the 1500 invitees to the Governor's Ball, I'd grab my golden chocolate statue, Macaroni & Cheese, Baked Potato with caviar and Wagyu Slider To Go,then rush home so I could get in my pajamas with a good book and all those yummy goodies.(lol)
Meanwhile, I'll be watching at home with my cheeseburger, lemonade and maybe a salad. How about you?
Janet's husband is sure acting like he is guilty of something in my opinion, if he didn't want his wife to know then he shouldn't have ever said anything in the first place, I'd be suspicious if it were me...
ReplyDeleteI don't think that I would show up that early for the Oscars although one of those swag bags would be nice.
You are 100% correct Jimmy! I felt the same way, but I also knew the extra piece of him cheating on my friend. She had been putting up with the verbal abuse, and the cheating which is still going on. That was the final straw,, and she's leaving. She definitely deserves someone who loves and appreciates her. I agree, that's just too dang early to be hanging around, and then to stagger up all those steps would be too much!(lol) Hugs...RO
DeleteOMG I want that swag!
ReplyDeleteIsn't the swag amazing?!!! Hugs...RO
DeleteYour friend's husband is not acting "right." Why? Is this the first such instance? Or does something similar, happen more frequently? Red flag?
ReplyDeleteOscars. Have not watched them in years. We are both fed up with the political posturing of actors. Rich, shallow people... Advising _me_, on what I should _think_????
REALLY????????!!!!!!!!??????!!!!!!
Nor do we go to movies, for the same reason.
I don't even look at the gowns! Tonight, or on the Net, tomorrow.
I/We have totally, completely washed our hands of *Hollywood.*
Definitely a red flag, and that was really the final straw for her. In addition to reading tons of books, I'm hopelessly addicted to movies and even collect DVDs. I heard that viewership for the Oscars was actually down by 16% this year. Hugs...RO
DeleteI don't get a chance to watch the Oscars too much, but I don't mind watching them at home but I doubt I would ever want to go because there is so much you have to do prep wise and not worth all that work hehe
ReplyDeleteIt sure is a lot of work and time for sure. I do like to watch the lovely outfits though. Hugs...RO
DeleteI remember visiting the Kodak theater and those incredible stairs you have to climb to get there. No red carpet for me, but I had heard about the parties. Every member of the Academy and every attendee gets a swag bag, but nothing like the nominees. I am so glad you showcased the Oscars. It should be a fun night to see who wins, although I think it's always far too long and often far too political, too.
ReplyDeleteBTW, "Janet" needs your advice now more than ever.
OMG Elizabeth - you've been there!!!!! I sure would love to hear all about that and see pictures. You've done so many neat things! Give me a mini red carpet that takes just 5 seconds to walk across to get to the door.(lol) In addition to being a reader, I have loved the magic of movies since I was a little girl, and I still watch old movies to admire the actors and talent. Janet is dealing with a man who could care less about her, and she's making her plans to move on. HUGE Hugs...and Happy Monday! RO
DeleteJanet's husband is acting weird and bad. If he didn't want her asking questions then why did he bring it up in the first place. Also why did he get so mad that she asked who it was? Sounds to me like he's hiding something and she would be well to think about getting away from him.
ReplyDeleteI was so angry as I listened to this Mary. He's been verbally abusive for years, then add to that his cheating, and it's clear that's why he acted this way. I mean really - I'm with you and wondering why did he even bring it up? But that's the type of mean-spirited person he is. You're right - that was the last straw, and she's making plans to move on to find someone who really wants to treat her well. Hugs and Happy Monday! RO
DeleteI used to watch every single awards and entertainment show and now I barely know who's nominated lol It's like I became a different person!
ReplyDeleteKaren @ For What It's Worth
I hear you on that one. It's funny what changes as we get older. Hugs and Happy Monday! RO
DeleteI can imagine the tedium of being at the Oscars, but I could definitely make an effort for that swag! A cheeseburger and PJs sounds much more like me :-)
ReplyDeleteIsn't that swag pretty amazing? I'd be on the phone scheduling those trips almost immediately! (lol) But since I'm just a regular person, I'll just have to settle for that cheeseburger. Happy Monday and Hugs...RO
DeleteI had no idea that such largess went to nominees. Australia doesn't do too badly in the area of nominees, but not winning.
ReplyDeleteThat was a shocker for me too Andrew. Why hang around for hours when you know you can be scheduling a trip?!(lol) Lots of cool Australian actors too that I love! Hugs...and Happy Monday!RO
DeleteOur local news showed viewers the contents of those "swag" bags -- Amazing!
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine receiving one of those? Wow!
DeleteJanet's husband's response would trigger alarm bells with me.
ReplyDeleteThat swag is incredibly generous. And my grumpy self can think of better uses for the money.
You hit paydirt EC, and welcome back. He's actually been cheating, which I didn't mention, so I suspect that's what caused the verbally abusive reaction. She's already making plans to move on. I'd love to use that cash towards opening up a high end shelter for abused or homeless women. Hugs and Happy Monday! RO
DeleteWHOA... I would be seeing some BIG warning signs with a reaction like that from my husband. She should press the issue for sure... - www.domesticgeekgirl.com
ReplyDeleteYou're right Gingi! He's been verbally abusive for years, then add to that the cheating, which is clearly why he reacted the way he did. That was the final straw for her to get away from this person who clearly cares less about her. Hugs...and Happy Monday! RO
DeleteHa ha I like your idea of Oscar attendance a lot better. :) And seriously with the swag? I had no idea. Wow... forget about the statue lol.
ReplyDeletethat is a strange reaction. Especially since he brought the subject up, but then reacted angrily when asked (innocently) for more info. Could be he was just really embarrassed but thee could be more too... I hope it all works out okay for her either way.
It was a long night, but you're right, it was much easier to be home. Still that swag though(lol) He reacted that way because he's been verbally abusive and cheating on her. I consider the fact that he brought it up initially at all is what we call a Freudian slip. (lol) Hope all is well Greg! Hugs...RO
Delete"janet" knew the answer but needed to talk to a friend. We all know what is going on here. I'm so sorry for your friend.
ReplyDeleteMargaret, you are absolutely on point! I feel so bad for her because she's a really nice person. Thanks for the well wishes, and hope your Tuesday is amazing! Hugs...RO
DeleteJanet's husband should learn to respond to his wife in a more polite if not caring manner. He brought up this conversation so she naturally asked who would say such a thing! I am betting it is another woman. If a male responded that way I do not believe that he would have been so upset!
ReplyDeleteI never watch the Oscar's. They just don't appeal to me. Glamorous women and handsome men are a "dime-a-dozen" in Hollywood!!!
Have a great day RO!!!
Hugs
xxx
I'm totally in agreement with you Jan, and for her it was the final straw. Hated that she had to go through all that nonsense. The Oscar viewership was down 16% this year, so less people are watching these days. Hope your Tuesday is going well! Hugs...RO
DeleteWow can you say I have something to hide so don't ask any questions, and yet he brought it up so does he want to get caught at whatever he's guilty of. Very strange.
ReplyDeleteThe Oscars nah I don't watch TV and I've been to only 1 movie in the last year. Don't care about any of it.
I thought the whole thing was weird, but typical, because she's been dealing with the nonsense for awhile. That was the final straw for her though. Viewership was down 16% this year, so less and less people are watching each year it seems. Hope your day is amazing! Hugs...RO
DeleteIf the goodie bag was worth THAT much 😱 I wouldn’t care about the awards. What difference would it matter who won what?
ReplyDeleteI felt the same way Terry. Give me that Swag Bag right now! (lol) Hugs...RO
DeleteI want one of those swag bags!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Me too Sandra! They had a mini one in a contest that I'm trying to win. That one is worth $979 though. A far cry from over $100,000(lol), but I'll take it! Happy Tuesday and Hugs...RO
DeleteOh, he totally slipped up when he mentioned the remark, but then got ballistic about admitting who said it. Bet she knows the name and the person's a woman (sorry to be so jaded, but, it just seems to be going there with that story). Poor Janet. Not a good situation.
ReplyDeleteWell, you don't say... I had no idea they got those swag bags or such a snazzy Governor's dinner. Yeah, the hours ahead would be a no. I can barely stand shoes and clothes like that for an hour let alone nearly a whole day when all the waiting and stuff is added in.
That conversation is what some people would call a Freudian Slip, right(lol) I totally agree with you because she's been sharing her story for quite some time. That was the final straw. She stopped cooking for him, washing his clothes, etc., and is making her plans to leave. I told her that she deserved to be treated well, and 2018 was her year to start over. I feel so bad for her too. I say give me that awesome Swag Bag and a few snacks, and I'm outta there!(lol) Happy Tuesday and Hugs...RO
DeleteI usually like to watch the Oscars but missed it this year. I didn't know it was on so ended up going to the movies with my husband instead. We watched Red Sparrow which was fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI love Jennifer Lawrence in everything she does, so I went to go see it with 2 other friends last weekend. Some parts were hard to watch, but talk about a strong and clever woman. I agree - the movie was fantastic! Hugs...RO
DeleteJanet's husband is guilty of something. If not, then he must be crazy.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Nadene you are so forthright, very right and very funny. He's been verbally abusive and cheating, so the fact that he even brought something so simple and zapped out like that is crazy, right? She's taking the needed steps to move on. I told her it's best for her to be alone for awhile and get her life back. Hugs...RO
DeleteOMG he was very sensitive which isn’t surprising but it’s alarming that he told her, his wife, the story but didn’t want to give details. SAY WHAT. Steps are my nemesis. I happily skipped the Oscars. I like all the pretty dresses but I don’t really want to watch hours of famous people looking perfect, it’s just not my thing and don’t watch many movies so I’m’ usually a little lost. I love your bear slippers.
ReplyDeleteClearly something was going on because no one reacts that way in normal conversation. You're right - it was alarming, and it was the final straw for her. It is time consuming to sit there for sure, so some people just DVR, so they can fast forward through the whole thing. (lol) Happy Friday! RO
DeleteNow all that pomp and ceremony is not my world. Give me a mug of cappuccino, a nice armchair to curl up in and a good murder and mayhem book or film - that's more my style! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Valerie. Nothing wrong with relaxing with a good book or movie, which I've been guilty of quite often. (lol) Hugs...and Happy Thursday! RO
DeleteOh, your poof friend. That's not cool of her husband at all. I hate when people are aggressive like that when you're just asking a question.
ReplyDelete-Lauren
www.shootingstarsmag.net
This guy is a piece of work for sure Lauren, and I hate to see my friend suffer. She's such a kind and giving person who's been giving him chances over and over. Of course, I reminded her that we can't change people. Finally, this was the final straw, and she's leaving at the end of the month. Hugs...and Happy Thursday! RO
DeleteThose bags always are pretty crazy
ReplyDeleteI'd be happy with one trip, or a shiny piece of jewelry thank you verey much! (lo) Hugs...RO
DeleteSounds like Janet’s husband didn’t mean to tell her that “someone” call him fat. For him to get so upset, kinda tells me it was probably a female and he got his feeling hurt. But his reaction to his wife was way out of line, she obviously loves him the way he is. I feel for her.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t want the Oscar’s, but we also don’t have cable. Lol... Love you slippers though! {hugs}
Her husband has been verbally abusive and also a cheater, so the fact that he reacted that way was just the nail in his coffin for her to say bye-bye-bye(lol) Most of the good parts of the Oscars showed up on Youtube for the most part I think, so you were ok not sitting through the entire thing.(lol) Happy Friday! Hugs...RO
DeleteKind of makes you wonder why he didn't want his wife to know who called him fat doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteDid you get your fifteen minutes in today?
Hugs
He's been verbally abusive for some time and cheating, but something about that reaction was the final straw for her, and she's leaving. Crazy! I did get in 17 minutes this morning Super Sandra in 25 degree weather this morning(lol) Hugs...RO
DeleteJanet's husband's response is not good!! I hope Janet takes care of herself. So many times we stay in "victim hood" like we deserve to be treated this way and we don't!! I hope she will be ok!
ReplyDeleteI have those Homer slippers! LOL!
Big Hugs!
That was the final straw, and she's making plans to leave and move on. I told her she deserves much better. Yay to fun slippers! Happy Friday to you. Hugs...RO
DeleteBack to those swag bags...doesn't the color-changing lipstick sound like fun?
ReplyDeleteHave a great one, Rockin Ro.
Years ago, I had this horrible habit of collecting lipsticks, and I must have had a zillion colors. Then I had the nerve to even mix some of the colors to get a new color.(lol) Thank goodness I stopped doing that, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want to get my hands on that color-changing lipstick (lol) Hugs and Happy Friday! RO
DeleteI'm feeling like Janet may need to press her husband for more information for her own emotional well being. From what you said about his past, she has a right to know more and from my own experience, she may be afraid to ask for fear of finding out the actual truth and/or he may be completely innocent but after all they've been through, may not want to rehash everything. You just never know. The best book my hubby read after disclosure was Not Just Friends by Shirley Glass. It helped him understand the importance of being open and honest. My heart goes out to her.
ReplyDeleteElsie
Sadly, she's making plans to move on, and will actually be out of the house by the end of the month. He's been verbally abusive and cheating, and that was the final straw for her when acted out the way he did. Thanks for sharing that book. I'll let her know, but it sounds like one I'd like to check out as well. You're the best! Hugs...RO
DeleteWow, I love your slippers :D
ReplyDeleteFun slippers are the best, right? Hugs...and Happy Tuesday! RO
DeleteThe situation with Janet's husband is definitely weird. The only thing I can think of that would be mildly acceptable is if it was his boss or someone he has to keep happy and she has a habit of confronting people. And even then threatening to tear something up is still not okay. It definitely sounds sketchy. Those Oscar nominee bags are insane!
ReplyDeleteAgreed Katherine, and that's an interesting take on it. Sadly though, he's been cheating on her and over-reacted when questioned. She's leaving at the end of the month. I'd take one just 1 trip from that swag bag for sure. I still can't believe all the things that were in there! Happy Saturday and Hugs...RO
DeleteI would definitely rather watch the Oscars from home in my PJ's! Although it would be fun to dress up, at least for a little bit. I wonder if the stars actually use the things they get in the swag bag?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely more comfy, and easier to make snack runs for sure. I've heard that some use them, and others donate some of the things. That sure is a lot of stuff in there, right? Happy Saturday and Hugs...RO
DeleteI wouldn't mind some of that grab bag. lol
ReplyDeleteI know, right? The trips alone are what I would enjoy for sure just to get away and try something new. Hugs...RO
