DO YOU EVER WISH YOU LIVED IN A LIBRARY ?

I'm giving my buddy Katherine P. a shout out because her blog http://iwishilivedinalibrary.blogspot.com/ actually captures how I've felt on a few occasions.  Hey there Sarah!  I'm also waving big to my friend Red Iza of https://theereaderjunkie.wordpress.com who actually has the very cool job of being a librarian.

In my lifetime, I've lived in about 12 different states, and every arrival meant a new library card.  I would grab an armful of books, choose a comfy chair and read through many treasures for hours.

But libraries today have changed.  A lot no longer the rule of speaking quietly while others are reading.  Many have reading events for children or teens. Some have closed due to budget issues, a few have minimized their hours, and still others have embraced the culture of reading, offering new concepts to attract customers.

If you're ever or live in Barcelona, they offer large kitchens in both of their facilities,  The Biblioteca del Fondo and The Central Library of Castelldefels.  These libraries actually provide cooking classes!

Back here in the states, Meadowridge Library at 5726 Raymond Road in Madison WI expanded their library to include a very large kitchen.

And in Hartford, CT,, they are doing it big with a kitchen that provides gourmet meals to the public.

There are plenty more places that provide kitchens for employees that aren't really publicized, making it simple to have special parties or mini events at minimal costs.

In addition to easy access to all the books we love and enjoy, libraries are making it even more likely that we can move in at our leisure.  Kitchens, bathrooms and large couches, computers and books.  Yay!!!

What about you?  If the decor was right, would you live in your local library?

  1. *Waves back* Thanks RO ! I'd hate to live in my library : we haven't had any kitchen for 14 years, there's a lot of dust in the books (and who knows where they've been, huh ?) and everybody wants to come in when it's not open yet, lol ! No kitchen, I said, but we're having one created these days (employees only), and we have plenty of cooking books - guess who buys them ? ^^

    1. Yikes! Dusty stuff and sneezing would be too much! Very great news that you guys are getting a kitchen soon, that would be great AND to take advantage of all those cookbooks would be neat. I know, right? I used to be guilty of showing up too early, but have definitely improved over the years! BIG Hugs...Ro

  2. What a dream that could be. So many books that I would never lack for anything to read. The lovely scent that libraries greet you with as you walk through the door of...old books, new books, paper pages and dust covers. A big resounding "YES" I most certainly would!!!

  3. LOVE libraries! I miss the thrill of going in and picking out a bunch of books to read. Now I just buy it on Amazon and it pops onto my Kindle. It lacks that excitement. However, I will say that a library near where I live recently opened a new, much bigger location near its old location. I think libraries will always be around...they just seem to be evolving with the times.

    1. I really enjoy checking out every library that I can. The smaller ones give you that personal attention and will hold books for you, and the larger ones come with these really neat amenities that make you want to kick your feet up and relax for hours. Hope you get to check out the new one near your home and take a pic on your blog for us to see! Hugs...Ro

  4. I love my local library though I went for years without using it (there may have been some fines! Whoops!) I'm not sure I'd truly want to live in mine because while I love the people it is a bit impersonal but all those books! There isn't a kitchen in mine (though how awesome would that be!) but I do love their digital site which is where I get all my audio books.

    2. You're quite welcome Katherine! No kitchen? Say it isn't so! (lol) If we could fine the perfect place with all those books, the digital world, a kitchen, and bathrooms with a shower, that would be awesome. We could read all the books once everything closed down, but I imagine it could be hard to fall asleep surrounded by all that goodness. (lol) You're quite welcome for the shout and hope your day is awesome! Hugs...

  5. Heck yeah!

The library I want to live in would be this private library by this huge company in the Philippines. It's not special in terms of book collection, but the atmosphere of the library is so cozy. You feel like you're reading under the stars.

Also I'd love to live in that bookstore that inspired Barrons' in KMM's Fever series. I forgot the name...

  6. That's so neat. Our libraries aren't like that. I'd love to have that many books around me all the time. Or a book store. Ahh that would be nice!

  7. Heck yeah! Won't that be cool? That's all I need right there. You don't even have to pay me. Let me just live there. Lol.

  8. Food and books is like the most perfect blend ever, Ro! Because if there is food close by, it means more time for reading :)
And rather than living in an actual library, I wish I had a real library in my house...
