SUPER ICE CREAM FLOAT ON STRESS-FREE SUNDAY

Before we get started, let's give a super shout out to my girl Kim of http://caffeinatedbookreviewer.com/ who lovingly does her weekly meme every Sunday about news, reviews, books and great info.  Hey there Kim!

Yesterday was a doozy!  This recent Facebook post explains pretty much everything that happened yesterday for the most part.  I still can't tell you what happened to my day.

Very rarely do I run into police road blocks for license checks, but it happened not once, or twice, but three dang times!  Yes, I waited until the last minute to reach the post office before closing, but I could have made it without all those distractions I tell you.  To make matters even worse, every one of those State Troopers probably could have been in a romance novel. *heh*  I asked each one if I could take a picture for my Blog and received pretty definitive "No's". (lol) Meanwhile, back to the drawing board with all that post office stuff next week.

We're still celebrating National Ice Cream Month with all kinds of fun recipes designed to make your mouth water.

CHOCOLATE AMARETTO FLOAT

INGREDIENTS
4 Cups Vanilla Ice Cream
1/4 Cup Milk
1/2 Tsp Almond Extract
6 Tbs Chocolate Syrup (or more if you like)
Whipped Cream, Additional Chocolate Syrup, Sprinkles or Nuts, Strawberries

DIRECTIONS
In a blender, combine 2 cups ice cream, milk, and almond extract, blending until smooth.  Transfer to a bowl and reserve.

In a blender, combine the remaining 2 cups of ice cream with 6 Tbs Chocolate Syrup, blending until smooth.  Divide among 4 10 oz. glasses.  Top with the rest of the reserved ice cream mixture.  Feel free to add on your whipped cream, more syrup, sprinkles and strawberries, then serve immediately.

This is a great way to have everyone join in the fun by helping to make these tasty treats.  If you're alone, why not sit back today with that book you've been meaning to read, or relaxing with a funny movie. Today is your day!

JUST ONE MORE THING
I'm not really a fan of MMA, however, I do run across that sport in romance novels, and the stories are enjoyable.  One would have to admit that they are fit, disciplined and committed.  What might surprise you, however, is the significant amount of domestic violence displayed by many of these athletes.  Guess what?  They're still making money with little repercussions from these criminal acts.  Bryant Gumbel interviewed Christy Mack on Real Sports who was beaten nearly to death by her boyfriend, War Machine.  In case you're wondering, his real name is Jon Kappenhaver.  Yep, she's a porn star.  Yes, if they were still together (there are conflicting reports about that), she had no business cheating.  He started abusing her 4 months into their relationship, and when he caught her with another man in her home, he beat her, breaking 10 of her ribs, nose and teeth, fracturing a rib, rupturing her liver and bruising her body.  You and I look at these pictures and see it as wrong. however, many MMA fighters feel she deserved it and had no problem sharing their opinions.

"@GTM_IV @ChristyMack @AlixJabber whats wrong with you, supporting a porn whore?

After she was able to gather her courage by posting pics of her injuries, police issued a warrant for his arrest, and he was on the run, posting to Twitter until being caught a week later.  He may end up in prison for the rest of his life for attempted murder.

I don't know this couple, but every time I see a situation like this, my heart cries out for the victim. I'm also saddened that an abuser feels the need to control a person he or she professes to love, by becoming violent.  This act has been publicized, but how many other victims are never heard?

  1. I love ice cream floats. I don't have them often though.

I am so saddened when I see pictures like those. Domestic abuse is something that should not be happening anymore. My mom was was a victim of domestic abuse with two different men. It blew my mind that she stayed with them for so long. Then when I was 19 my boyfriend at the time came to my place of work and beat me up. I had a concussion, black eye and bruises all over but I called the police and pressed charges and he got jail time for it. There's no way I would ever put up with that.

    1. Definitely a guilty pleasure, and yummy! Being in a relationship such as this is different for each person, and there can be many factors involved. I'm so glad that both of you are now in a safe environment. Hugs...

  2. Good for her for saying something. It's mind boggling that people can do this. And either way it goes. Women can be just as awful :/ A friend shared an obit today in one of our groups that really hurt my heart. It was a young woman (in her 20s) and at the end the family left a message in the obit that ran in the paper that if you know of anyone being abused or if you are being abused to not wait until it was too late to do something. Just breaks your heart to see things like that.

    1. As you already know, domestic violence is a HUGE issue for me, and I struggle daily with those who ridicule victims or don't take this crime seriously. I don't read obits normally but mad props for putting out the message about being too late. What a tragedy for that family. I'm with you in that it hurts me. Hugs...

  3. God. The world is just an awful place. There is no excuse for cheating, as there is no excuse for beating your spouse to a pulp.

    1. You've got that right, Joy. So many victims continue to suffer silently, hoping for the nightmare to end.

  5. OMG!! She is such a beautiful woman to be going out with such a CREEP! To me, I don't care who you are or what you have done, no one deserves this! I hope he does get life in prison but you know what Ro? The only thing we can do in this situation is pray for them. Pray for them both and put it all in the good Lord's hands. Smh. Ohhhh, I digress, now I'm hungry and now about to get some Sherbert but I'll be wishing it was that shake. *looks at it longingly*

  7. National ice cream month, I didn't know this existed but you caught my attention there !
I'm so sorry for this woman, her fear, her hurt, but I'm glad she fought him back and sued him. I hope he goes to prison. Him, a victim ? In what world ?! It has nothing to do with love or passion, but everything to do with possessivity and jealousy and marking your territory ! Thanks for sharing, RO :

    1. Isn't that totally interesting that we have a reason to eat ice cream every day for a month?! (lol) It did take courage for her and despite being a victim, she copes every day with being blamed for this (and other) violent acts in this relationship. We just pray that he will see the error of his ways and seek to help others in the future, even if he ends up in prison for a long time. Love is not about control or abusive acts. Hugs to you!
