When I turned 21 years ago, I took a trip to New Orleans with some friends and they insisted I try a Hurricane. It tasted really great, but after having so many that day, I don't remember much else. (lol)Anyhoo, if you're celebrating with friends, and can't make it to Mardi Gras on February 17, this drink that originated in the 1940's, is sure to be a crowd pleaser.
HURRICANE
2 oz. dark rum,
2 oz. light rum
1 oz. lime juice
2 oz. passion fruit juice
1 oz. orange juice
1 Tbs simple Syrup (equal parts sugar and water, cooked over low heat until syrupy
1 Tbs grenadine
Ice
Shake everything up in a shaker except the ice, then strain. Pour into a hurricane glass or whatever you have, filled with ice. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and orange slice. Yummy!
Yums! That was my first legal drink when I turned 21 :D
