HURRICANE COCKTAIL

When I turned 21 years ago, I took a trip to New Orleans with some friends and they insisted I try a Hurricane.  It tasted really great, but after having so many that day, I don't remember much else. (lol)

Anyhoo, if you're celebrating with friends, and can't make it to Mardi Gras on February 17, this drink that originated in the 1940's, is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

HURRICANE

2 oz. dark rum,
2 oz. light rum
1 oz. lime juice
2 oz. passion fruit juice
1 oz. orange juice
1 Tbs simple Syrup (equal parts sugar and water, cooked over low heat until syrupy
1 Tbs grenadine
Ice

Shake everything up in a shaker except the ice, then strain.  Pour into a hurricane glass or whatever you have, filled with ice.  Garnish with a maraschino cherry and orange slice.  Yummy!
