With thousands of blogs in existence these days, you can probably imagine all the comments that are made on book reviews, beauty tricks, entertainment news, travel suggestions and many more.
One of the Blogs I follow averages daily comments of 237, because she is super popular. Usually, if you're the first person to comment on what she's written, you may get a response. If you say something truly witty or outrageous, she'll also jump in. Otherwise, due to the sheer volume of consistent feedback, there is definitely no way she'll follow-up on every comment, but she does read each and every one of them.
Some Blogs discuss various topics and never get back to readers, and others respond all the time.
I have a lot of work to do when it comes to being timely, because it may take me 1-4 days to respond to each comment individually, but dang it, I wish I could do it in real time. My goal is definitely to improve on that. It's fun meeting new friends and learning new things, so I visit tons of blogs, and even though it may not be a good fit, I try to look for something that reaches out to me so I can interact. I think there have only been about 3 blogs that I had trouble with, mostly because they were porn sites with actual sex going on, and frankly I didn't know what in the heck to say! (lol) In fact, I didn't even know you could have blogs on the Internet with naked people actually doing the horizontal mambo without getting into trouble. You'd be amazed what you can find by doing Google searches! (lol)
But what about your own blog? Do you respond to everyone who posts a response? Is it generic? Is it personalized? Is it timely? Is it consistent? Is it exciting? Do you feel guilty when you don't respond? Do you feel obligated? Do you enjoy seeing responses from other bloggers, or do you just want to get the information out there?
I respond to every comment, it may take me a day or two or three, lols but I do respond. Besides we arent that popular where get over 200 comments :)
ReplyDeleteThe only time I wont repsond back if the person is being rude or argumentive, dont have time for that nonsense. Or if its spam
I'm with you on that Sharonda, about response times. I'm the world's worst! (lol) Haven't run into the rudeness here, but because I post on other sites about topics related to domestic violence, man, I can sometimes get slammed! (lol) Yikes! Can you imagine getting over 200 comments a day?Wo, and she makes good money, too! Big Hugs and Wacky Wednesday to you!
DeleteWell I really have a problem with reading the blog to know if I want or should post a comment. However, when I take the time to read the blog, I have enjoyed the wit, humor and insight and will usually post a comment. I don't expect a comment back on every post though, but am sure some do. Great job
ReplyDeleteHey There Kelly, Kelly and hope all is well. Thanks for stopping by! Hugs...
DeleteI really try to respond to comments as soon as I can. Sometimes life gets in the way and I end up not replying to some but I'd say in general I reply to 90% of comments. It feels important to me as I am grateful that the person took the extra few minutes to say something and I want to acknowledge that.
ReplyDeleteHey Trish: Totally agree. I'm usually a little tardy with my responses (lol), but I try to respond, and it's a great way to meet friends. Hugs...
DeleteI try to respond to all comments on my blog. I try to do it the same day the blog post is made but sometimes it's not until the next day. I like letting commenters know that I am reading the comments and appreciate them.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Mary. I think readers enjoy knowing that their posts are being read. Hope all is well. Hugs...Ro
DeleteI do. I do, indeed. Aside from reciprocating with comments, I feel like responding to comments is also a good way to keep in touch with my readers. I think it's the least thing I could do. I'm not able to do it often, but I try my best. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Joy. Love meeting new friends and agree that the interaction is important. Hugs...Ro
DeleteI try to reply to every comment even on the crazy popular posts. I miss a post now and again if life is doing a number on me but I get back to 95% of them. Blogs like the one you mention are ones I quickly stop following. I don't like feeling like it's all one sided, ya know?
ReplyDeleteThat's a really good point, Anna and never really considered that it may appear one-sided. What happens on her blog is that the readers start chatting with each other to come up with solutions. (Probably started happening this way for the very reason you mention-lol) Hugs...
DeleteI reply to all my comments. If not the day the comment, then the next. With so many blogs out there, if someone is nice enough to comment, I'm so grateful for what they shared. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteI agree, and try my best to respond to everyone, not always as promptly as I should, dang it (lol), but I'm working on that. I agree and and feel truly grateful for all visits and responses. Hugs...
DeleteI try to answer all coms everyday - fortunately for me, they never amount to 237 !!! I try to personalize each answer, but it's not always easy to be bright and original and insightful each time...
ReplyDeleteLOL! I know, right? Having that type of volume on a daily basis sounds really busy, for sure. I think the lowest response total I've ever see her have is 88. YIKES! Sometimes it can be a little rough to be unique, but we keep getting better, hopefully. Hugs...Ro
