GINGER - POACHED PEARS

That crock pot that's been sitting in the garage gathering dust like mine did, is absolutely fantastic!  This is the perfect tool to use if you don't feel like standing on your feet all day to cook a meal, work out of the home, or have errands to run.

There's nothing shy about these robust pears and they make an exciting dessert.  Using this cooking method allows them to soak up the fabulous flavors of rum, ginger and cinnamon to give a sweet and slightly spicy treat.

Serve warm, and top with your favorite ice cream, whipped cream or chocolate sauce, then enjoy.

INGREDIENTS
4 Firm Bartlett of Bosc Pears, Cored and Halved
3 Cups Unsweetened Apple Juice
1/4 Cup Light Rum
1 Teaspoon Chopped Fresh Ginger (Or Ground Ginger in Bottle)
1 Cinnamon Stick
1 Lemon, Thinly Sliced

INSTRUCTIONS
Arrange the pears in the crock pot, then combine the juice, rum & ginger, pouring all over the the pears.  Add the cinnamon, and arrange the lemon slices on top of the pears.  Cover and cook on LOW for 3-4 hours, or on HIGH for 1 1/2 to 3 hours.  Either setting should make the pears nice and tender.  Let them cool slightly, then serve the liquid and pears warm or at room temp, discarding the lemon slices and cinnamon stick.
