FIX IT UP FRIDAY AND HAVE FUN
Have you ever looked around your home and asked if you should do something different to shake things up, or to make friends wonder if they're visiting the wrong place?
You can change things easily by picking up frames from a craft store, painting them, and using colorful fabric inside instead of pictures. Perhaps you can move that recliner to a different place in a room, or do something unique with a bookcase. Maybe you can suggest that your teen do something creative in his or her bedroom for a fun project.
Today is the day to "Fix It Up" just the way you like.
Try something different with red

WIN A NEW AMAZON FIRE 8.9 TABLET
Does it seem like at least one day a week someone will say something to totally get on our nerves and we just want to scream? Perhaps that promotion went to someone else, the cable was disconnected in error, that loan we expected didn't come through, someone cut in front of us at the grocery store, or someone accused us of something we definitely didn't do.
The first reaction may be to angrily tell that person to get in the back of the line, or to yell at the customer service rep who takes our phone call, or to go on Facebook and put that person who embarrassed us on blast. (lol) Before doing or saying something in anger, which we can never take back, take a few moments if you can, to "think about it" and hopefully those yucky feelings may go away. I've had to do this many times to stay out of trouble. (lol)
On to our Contest of the Day that's open to everyone!
Enter once and get your chance to win a brand-new Amazon Fire 8.9 Tablet or a $379 Amazon Gift Card. You get to choose, and you can enter through 2/21/2015

SUPERBOWL APPETIZER - SAUSAGE DIP
WACKY WEDNESDAY
People who know me think I'm slightly wacky because I don't mind wearing a Doctor Seuss Hat or SpongeBob Slippers, just because. So today is your time to do something totally fun and unusual to surprise your friends.
Here's a simple recipe to use for this weekend during the Superbowl with friends and it won't break your wallet. This recipe is good for 10 people.
Enjoy!
SAVORY SAUSAGE DIP
1 LB Hot Sausage with the casings removed
2 Pkgs (8 Oz Each) Cream Cheese
1 Can Tomatoes and Green Chiles, Drained
Tortilla Chips
1. Crumble and brown the sausage in a medium skillet over medium heat until browned and cooked through - about 12-14 minutes, then remove from heat and drain on paper towel.
2. In a bowl, add cream cheese, sausage and tomatoes, mixing well with a large spoon.
3. Transfer everything to a 1 quart Serving Bowl, then serve with chips.
4. This recipe may be made ahead and refrigerated, but be sure to warm it before serving.

TRY IT TUESDAY
CRUNCHY MONKEY BARS
I'm the world's worst baker, and something always goes wrong when I try to make a dessert. I decided to give this yummy delight a try and actually didn't screw it up. Yay! If you like peanut butter and chocolate, this is a super simple recipe.
1 Roll Pillsbury Refrigerated Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
1 Roll Pillsbury Refrigerated Peanut Butter Cookies
1 Cup Mashed Peeled Bananas - about 2 bananas
1 Cup Chocolate Flavored Hazelnut Spread
1 Cup Crushed Dried Banana Chips or Substitute your favorite nuts
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees, then coat your pan with cooking spray. Let the cookie dough stand at room temperature for about 10 minutes or so to soften. In a large bowl, break up both rolls of cookie dough, then mix with a wooden spoon or knead with your hands. With the spoon, stir in the mashed bananas, mixing well, then spread in the pan.
Bake for 18-22 minutes or until the top is golden brown, and toothpick inserted comes out clean. Remove from the oven, then immediately spoon chocolate hazelnut spread over the top. Let it stand for 20 seconds to soften, then spread evenly over the crust. Top with the banana chips or nuts and cool for 30 minutes, then refrigerate for at least an hour before serving. Yummy!

ARE PINK CABS REALLY SAFER FOR WOMEN?
The other day I was reading an article in the Wall Street Journal about a woman who had been raped by an Uber driver in New Delhi. The response to the crime in this particular city in India, was hiring pink vested females to drive approximately 20 pink and white cabs equipped with pepper spray along with panic buttons notifying the local police or a call center in case of trouble. For the record, this has been done in other cities in India, as well.
Initially I thought this was an awesome idea, specifically since it's been done in Mexico in 2009; as the day progressed, however, a light went off that the state of violence towards women in India is much larger than a pink taxicab. Even though women are speaking up much more about violence at home or in public, law enforcement agencies may be slow to act.
This, of course, creates a domino effect of women who refuse to speak of being raped, sexually assaulted, publicly degraded, verbally abused or violently beaten.
According India's National Crime Records Bureau, 309,546 crimes were reported in 2013, but that number has to be much higher, in my opinion. The numbers as reported are listed below.
The legal definition for domestic violence is "cruelty by husband or his relatives", according to the BBC.

"My husband came into the room, locked the door. He turned up the music so that no one could hear us outside. Then he took out his belt and started to hit me. He kept whipping me for the next 30 minutes."
Aditi (not her real name) is among millions of Indian women who have faced domestic violence. "As he was doing this, he warned me that I shouldn't make a sound, I shouldn't cry, I shouldn't scream, because if I did, he was going to hit me even harder. He was hitting me with his belt, his hands... soon he began to choke me. He was just so angry."
The incident Aditi above took place when she was just 19, a year after her "grand wedding" for which "people flew in from around the world to bless the couple.
"He became negligent and would verbally abuse me, calling me names. But my dad was an alcoholic and he had always abused my mom so I thought that was part of life. I also thought, maybe things would get better," she says. But they only got worse, she says, tearfully.
"The abuse escalated over the years and I thought if I do as he says, things would be okay, but it really never was that way. He always found some reason to find fault in me, anything could trigger him. Every moment of my life with him was unpredictable. When he went out and came back, I didn't know what to expect. He would call me names, put me down or just hit me." This woman was brutalized for 6 years until one day in April 2012, she managed to escape with help from friends. Today, she's put her past behind her, finding a job with a non-governmental organization as she rebuilds her life. (From the BBC)
Sadly, this case is not unusual as it happens more than we can ever imagine in India, the United States and other countries. Some crimes are reported, yet many more people suffer in silence while these cases are simply swept under the carpet and forgotten about.
Sadly, this case is not unusual as it happens more than we can ever imagine in India, the United States and other countries. Some crimes are reported, yet many more people suffer in silence while these cases are simply swept under the carpet and forgotten about.
Female drivers of these new cabs are paid $322 - $483 a month, according to the Wall Street Journal! Yet how many woman can actually afford to use a taxi if they're trying to leave an abusive relationship? How many professional women will be late for work while waiting to use a pink and white taxi driven by another woman?
If 60% crimes are reported, 9% make it trial, yet only 2% are actually convicted, what difference will it make if a woman hits the panic button and her concerns are reported to the police? This # is well below the national domestic violence conviction rate average of 16%! Why not place a panic button or pepper spray in a regular cab? Even if that were the case, would that crime really be taken seriously or even registered? In 2013, 1,18,886 cases were reported and documented, increasing from 2012, and that number continues to grow.
There are many pink cabs available with a focus on breast cancer awareness, which is awesome. As the fight continues for the safety of women both in and out of the home, will a pink and white cab driven by women really make a difference in any country, where domestic violence is almost an afterthought unless it happens to a celebrity? Isn't this really just placing a band-aid on an open wound, destined to eventually become infected?

QUICK TERIYAKI NOODLES
This recipe is really simple to make and tastes great!
1 Cup Hot Water
6 Dried Shiitake Mushrooms
8 Ounces Uncooked Soba (Buckwheat) noodles or whole wheat spaghetti

1 Package of Sliced Mushrooms

DO YOU COMMENT ON OTHER BLOGS?
If you're a Blogger does that word make you cringe inside?
Normally, I'm not a finger pointer, and in fact, I won't blast this blogger other than to loosely state that he and his wife are pastors. Their blog is well written, concise and makes sense, causing me to subscribe and follow them. In support of their blog, I took time to comment and gave them kudos for a job well done.
It wasn't until a week later that I noticed my posts weren't showing up, yet I was still receiving a daily feed of their topics. Thinking there was something technically wrong on my end, I e-mailed, politely asking if I was doing something improperly because my comments weren't visible.
Meanwhile, there were daily visits to my Blog, but no response, so I e-mailed again with the same result. I then made a comment using another e-mail and guess what? It showed up! Uh...huh?
We all have free will, meaning that it's your blog to do with what you will, however, in my opinion, if someone asks a question related to your blog and does so politely with no ill intentions, why not simply respond that you don't want the comments on your page (always positive), that you have a problem with my blog, or whatever?! I don't get it, but I'm sort of getting off the topic. (smile)
A Facebook friend and fellow blogger, Anna Cade, from
brought up the topic about commenting on Blogs, and offered positive feedback on why it's good to say hello because it's a great way to boost morale or to meet new friends.
If a person takes the time to create an entire Blog with graphics, provides subject matter to discuss, offers contests, or simply uses it as vehicle to discuss personal feelings, that says the person wants to get the news out to the masses, so one must assume that he or she wants comments. We visit Blogs about everything because we're interested in seeing what others have to say and to meet new friends. We're still ready to learn more, laugh often or offer support for someone in need. Some people really put a lot of personal info out for the world to see.
Maybe you'll never have time to read the book someone reviewed, or you may not try that recipe someone suggested, or perhaps you won't enter the contest someone is promoting, and those diet tricks may be fabulous, but won't work for you - yet there may be something on that site you can relate to and get a discussion going.
Like Anna mentioned regarding comments, (see one of her statements below) you'll never know if something you say will lift someone's spirits or provide a different viewpoint, even if it's just one line to say hello. Take a peek and get your comments on. Hugs...
FROM ANNA CADE
2. You could be what keeps a blog going!
I love blogging but it can also be a pretty time consuming and solitary thing. For each review I do on the blog...it's pretty much 5-8 hours of alone time with reading the book, writing the post and formatting it. Fretting over it. That's a LOT of time spent alone on a regular basis even if you love what you're doing.
And it's nice to know that people are checking out those posts and enjoying them too.
So if you love a blog and enjoy what they do one really easy way to let them know is leaving comments. It doesn't have to be every day or every post but now and again when you read one and enjoy it take out a few seconds and just jot a note down in the comments :) You might just be the reason a blogger keeps going and doesn't close up shop thinking no one cares.

IS IT EVER OK TO TELL A LIE?
Years ago when I was in the Air Force, I met this really charismatic guy who was funny and had something to say about everything.
It wasn't until we were almost through with Basic Training that we realized that while he was fun, almost everything he shared was an untruth.
I never imagined that it was possible to meet a person who literally lies about everything. I don't dare reveal my age, but it's taken 30 years to come in contact with another person who can never tell the truth about anything! I'm not kidding. At first his stories were entertaining, but eventually, I found myself scratching my head trying to figure him out. When asked if he met any new people (an innocent question), this man will say no, despite having met over 20 people during a marketing event because he was trying to promote his business. When confronted with tape recorded calls of him sexually speaking to other women by his wife, this guy will say, "It wasn't him". When asked if he had extra money to spare by his friends, this man will say he has about $10 in a safe at work (Nonexistent), when in reality, his friend found over $1000 hidden in his shoe while babysitting one day.
How many times have we told our parents when we were little that we had no homework, or that we lost our report card? What made you tell a close friend that you couldn't make it to her party because you were sick, only for her to find out you were out on a date?
Has your dog ever eaten your assignment, or were you really at a funeral when you called out from work? Did you cheat on your significant other, and when asked about it, denied it emphatically? Did you really get a 20% increase at work?
Even though you may get yelled at, or judged or perceived differently, isn't it really better to just tell the truth and clear your conscious?
Is it okay to tell an occasional lie or is it worse if you lie all the time?
My mom always told me - a lie is a lie, is a lie and you lose your credibility.
What do you think?

Orange Layer {1/2 cup frozen mango, 1/4 cup regular vanilla yogurt, 2 Tbsp coconut water}
Pink Layer {1/2 cup frozen raspberries, 1/4 cup regular vanilla yogurt, 2 Tbsp coconut water}
Equipment:
Blender
Serving glasses
Tbsp measure
5 small cups for placing each smoothie color/flavor in before layering
Directions:
1.) For one color/layer of the smoothie, place all the ingredients into the blender and blend on high, until you get an even consistency. Place the mixture into a small cup, then in the fridge to stay cold. Rinse, shake out, and dry the blender before blending the next smoothie layer. Pour each smoothie color into one small cup.
2.) Starting with the purple smoothie, carefully spoon about 3 Tbsp of the mixture into each of 2 glasses. Place these glasses into the freezer to chill for about 10 minutes until the layer is softly set.
3.) After 10 minutes, spoon out the green layer, then chill in the freezer again for 10 minutes. Repeat the spooning and chilling process for the next layers (yellow, orange, and then red) until the smoothie is complete. Enjoy!
