MAPLE SYRUP MARTINI & FUN STUFF

Nope, haven't tried this drink yet, but the thought of maple syrup in a drink sounded pretty cool. Even better, it's super simple to make for when you're reading a good book, or to show off for friends. Here it is:

In an ice-filled shaker, mix 1/4 cup Vanilla Vodka, 3 Tbs. Pure Maple Syrup, 2 Tbs Dark Rum and 1/2 Tsp Rum Extract.  Shake it up well for your aerobic activity, then strain into 2 glasses. Add a stick of cinnamon or a piece of yummy bacon if you like. Done!

AWARDS
Did you know that 12 people have won all four major awards since 1950? Audrey Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg, Helen Hayes and Mel Brooks are included in this esteemed list of entertainers who have won an Oscar, an Emmy, a Tony AND a Grammy.

FRESH FRIDGE
Most of us use baking soda to keep the odors out of the fridge, but did you know that we can also get rid of those yucky smells with a lemon?  Place lemon juice on a cotton ball, then leave it in the refrigerator for about 2-3 hours.  When you go back later, that smell will be all gone!

TURKEY CHALLENGED
I have to be honest.  The first time I heard about this line, I thought it was a ruse, but it actually does exist.  Every year in November and December anyone can call the Turkey Talk-line for cooking assistance.  I don't know how they do it, but their team is able to figure out just about any scenario you can come up with.  I'm sure 30+ years of experience has prepared them for anything. BLACK FRIDAY
Years ago, I remember getting up super early to head to K-Mart to purchase gold hoop earrings, and I was pretty much always first in line. It was a really fun activity allowing me to chat with others, or to people watch once I made my purchase. I did this for 3 years before moving to another state. Ah...how things have changed.  Black Friday Deals were so hard to find out about in advance that you had to know someone to get an early scoop. Now we can get bargains on Thanksgiving, and on-line that can be better than on Black Friday. We also find out about all those deals much, much earlier.  But what about you?  Any plans to head out with the masses, or will you let your fingers do the walking?

  1. We're getting our turkey and ham from a local barbecue place. I figured I'd let them handle the hard stuff...plus, it'll be smoked so it'll taste better than what we could do (hopefully!). The only bad part is that we have to pick it up the day before, so we'll have to carve it the day before and bake it at turkey-eating time on Thursday.

    1. I sure hope you get to come visit NC one day! I visited Montreal years ago and totally wanted to move there, EXCEPT for the crazy taxi driver we had. We were in fear of our lives, but still giggling like schoolgirls as we were slung around in the back seat during those wild turns.(lol)

  3. I do not go out on Black Friday. My sister in law and her mother went one year and her mother got knocked down and stepped on going into a K Mart. It was ridiculous. It seems like people are pushy and rude these days. I just order online and forget the deals I could find. Not worth it.

    1. My goodness, that's horrible, Mary! Ordering online for the holidays is definitely easier!

  4. That cocktail sounds delicious but a little high-alcohol for me! Maybe I'll try to put together a low or no-alcohol maple drink instead. I'm thinking something with vanilla ice cream, maple syrup, some rum extract, and either milk or sparkling water to thin it out a little... hmmm.

I had to laugh about the turkey hotline. I've used it! We opened up the turkey we'd been thawing (in the fridge) and the skin looked grey. Called the hotline and they suggested it might have been defrosted once before we bought it, and not to cook it. So my husband had to make an emergency run to the nearest open grocery store for a fresh turkey.

As for Black Friday, you couldn't pay me to brave the stores anymore. (Well, I might do it for a signed book by an author I love, but that's about it.) I do most of my shopping either online or in small local stores, preferably before or after Black Friday!

    1. Using it without alcohol is definitely a fun drink for the kids, too. You actually used the turkey hotline? That's so cool! Hate that you had to run out last minute, though. On-line is definitely safer (lol) and there's no worries of being knocked out by an angry shopper. Glad you stopped by! Hugs..

  5. Hey Ro Ro! I'm not a huge alcohol drinker but if only I WAS, then I would be ALL OVER that drank! ;) And BAHAHAHA at the turkey hotline! I'm not sure how we're going to do our turkey this year, probably bake it or something. How are you guys going to do yours? This year, my sister wants to do Cyber Monday, but we may attempt to flock with the masses this year and attempt to buy something. hehe

    1. The turkey this year was done by someone "other than" me, and was super moist, Kute Keionda! Did you go out shopping, or was it all done on-line? Inquiring minds are dying to know. Hugs...
