STREAKING AND SOME OTHER STUFF

Some may be too young to remember this trend, but I didn't get it. Seeing body parts flopping around while people ran down the street or across the football field just seemed strange, but being a "used to be pranker" I can get that there was some fun and shock value to it all.

Streaking was super popular back in the 70's, and really took off in colleges around the country.  In 1974, there was even a record for an entire group of 1543 streakers at the University of Georgia.

As a kid, the closest I ever got to a real life streaker was when an acquaintance decided to show his private parts to me near my house while I was headed to visit a friend as a way to impress me.  Unfortunately for him, I just laughed, said 'uh...no', and promptly walked away.(lol)  He pretty much ignored me after that.   Fast forward 30+ years and this very happily married general practice physician, is still very embarrassed.(lol)

GMAIL
Google launched the now very popular email service Gmail to beta testers, and I was one of them, on April 1, 2004, but I didn't really use it that much at the time.  Code named Caribou, Gmail officially launched in 2007. It's hard to imagine, but there are now over 1.2 billion users around the world. (me included)

CAMPING
Have you ever gone camping when you were younger?  It was so much fun roughing it out in the elements, and we loved sleeping in tents.

Often, we showered in freezing cold water because there were so many people at the parks.   But things sure have changed because I can't even find the tents we used back then. (lol)

These days, if you're going to be outside, it may as well be comfortable and convenient.

A TOAST TO YOUR HEALTH
If you're thinking of heading to CVS for sunscreen with a SPF below 15, don't waste your time.  They've also begun selling an EpiPen that's significantly less expensive, and their store- brand personal products will remove chemicals like parabens and more, all in an attempt to pay more attention to the healthy needs of their customers.

FOOD LOVE
Do you love Italian Food and want to get the best there is?  Why not schedule a food tour and experience plenty of gastronomical delights.

Food & Sightseeing Tour - Downtown Naples Italy is around $44, and lasts for nearly 3 hours. Get comfy and make sure your tummy is ready to eat.   https://www.viator.com/tours/Naples/Downtown-Naples-Food-and-Wine-Tour/d508-20455P6

Milwaukee Pizza Bus - Downtown Milwaukee has a tour that costs about around $60, and also lasts for nearly 3 hours.  While travel is mostly on the bus, you'll still need comfortable walking shoes. https://www.milwaukeefoodtours.com/pizza-bus/

GO FLY A KITE
Flying kites is really good exercise for kids and adults, but I sure don't see people doing it the way I did years ago.

Nevertheless, the entire month of April is dedicated to flying kites, and there are types available

SAY WHAT?
I don't take cold medicine for health reasons, but lots of people do, so you can imagine my surprise when I watched the news in NC back in September, where Matthew Phelps allegedly stabbed his wife to death and blamed it on taking too much Coricidin the night before.

But the plot thickens it seems because the 29 year wanna be pastor stabbed his wife of less than a year, 123 times, then called 911 to admit that he was pretty sure he did it, even though his memory was fuzzy.  He says they were happy, but there were rumors that she was ready to leave.

Even though there have been stories of kids using this medication to get high, Bayer says there are no ingredients in Coricidin to make someone turn homicidal.

Obsessed with the movie American Psycho, investigators are combing through his and her social media and cell phones to get more information on his intent.

My question to you is this.  Do you believe cold medicine can cause you to commit an act of violence, or is that a cop out

  1. Some days I hate my keyboard. I hope it will work till I finish this comment. Where to begin? I guess with the pseudo Twinkie defense, or Coricidin. Some smart lawyer will find a way to get him committed to an insane asylum instead of prison.

    I fear I never

  2. OOPS! Bad keyboard action.

I fear I never got into streaking and didn't know anyone who did. I must have been too young or led a very sheltered life.

I was NEVER too young to fly a kite, though, and I remember the fun I had building one, then flying it in the park. Such wonderful memories.

Hope your day is going better than mine (GRIN)!!!!

    1. That's so cool that you actually made your own kites! I would have loved to have seen your work. Even today, I still don't get the streaking, but to each his own I guess.(lol) Hope your Friday is Fun! Hugs...RO

  3. Streaking is not my thing, but I say, you do you. Hehehe.

I'm not a fan of camping. :/ I'm way too high maintenance for that.

  4. Cop out.

Do you remember the song "The Streak"? I remember it from one of those Loony Tunes or Goofy Greats albums when I was a kid. Funny how that because such a "thing" isn't it? LOL...

I LOVE camping! We haven't been in years, though it's something I really want to do in our future. Especially if we can pop up a tent in our own backyard and not hear a sound! :)

    1. I think that guy is going to get quite a bit of jail time for what he did. I do remember the song from way back in the day Rain!(lol) I loved camping as a kid particularly because I got to hang out with some cool friends. Now, if there's any change that I 'd be attacked by bugs, it's a definite "NO" (lol) Glad you love it though. Hugs...RO

  8. sorry 'bout that above.

I find it hard to believe it was cold medicine. 123 times? Man he was pissed.

Camping? Did it as a kid but not my favorite thing. Also did it as a young woman with my husband and I went kicking and screaming. Always had fun, but prefer my kind of camping - a hotel without room service.

I would eat and drink my way through Naples and Italy for any amount!!

I too never understood streaking because sadly I am old enough to remember everyone doing it.

I am one of those that doesn't use sunscreen. If I do I always get burnt. My husband uses 30 or higher and I will grab some when on the boat and put it on. Wherever I put it on I will always get a sunburn. Where I put nothing, I get neither tan or burned. Weird huh? Yes, yes,I am.

    1. The background research shares that he had been spending money they didn't have, and it was making the new wife angry enough to plan to leave him. He was also seriously hooked on a Christian Bale character who was a psycho, so many think he wanted to know what it was like to murder someone. Just give me my fork, and I'm off to a food tour too Margaret!(lol) We're both in the same book with our streaking memories. (lol) Wow! That's weird that it works the opposite on you. I don't use it either, but I probably should be. I don't think you're weird, but I absolutely adore your sense of humor! Hugs...RO

  9. Ummm, 123 times? I feel like that's a bit excessive. Even if cold medicine was making him feel out of sorts, I don't think it would make him *that* wonky. Not cold medicine that is sold over the counter.

Now, the camping pictures that don't involve me sleeping in a sleeping bag, or using the woods as my toilet bowl, I'm all about that. Those days of tents and dirt are long gone. I love my comforts too much nowadays.

  10. The naked human form can be very exciting, but I was never excited by streakers. Amused though. I think now the penalties for streaking at sporting events are higher than that for murder. I remember the name of the song The Streak, but not the lyrics. I must listen to it.

Many years ago two dyke friends looked at one of our gay pron magazines and just kept pointing and laughing at the pictures.

    Camping!!! No thanks.

I am sure if the bloke gets away with murder that it is alleged he committed, he will go on to be a very successful pastor.

  11. Decidedly a cop out.
Streaking? Sadly when the music stops some body parts don't.
Kite flying on the other hand. A big yes from here.
We went camping when I was a child. But never, ever camped at parks. NO facilities. No running water. So, no thanks.

  12. I sure do remember streaking. Ha!
If I decide to commit mayhem, I'll be sure and take some cold meds first:)
As always, great post, Rockin Ro.

  14. I don't take any cold medicines, but I've heard they make you sleepy, not aggressive. I always found streaking a rather laughable thing, and have never understood what#s so fun about it. And as for camping, it's not my things. Had to go camping with the scouts and school as a kid, but hated every moment of it. Have a great week, hugs, Valerie

  15. Yes, I remember streaking. LOL

Poor general practice physician. Bet you will never let him forget that!!!! -giggggles-

    Go fly a kite! Yessssssssssss!!!!

Cough meds make one homicidal? -head desk- Guess people will try for any sort of an excuse, these days. Wow... Anyone remember when people took responsibility for their actions?

Today... Everything is some one else's fault.

  16. My dog would disagree with your last photo, RO. My fur-baby would say, "All you need is love...and to go to your local shelter and rescue a dog." (smile!)

  17. Its definitely a cop out. If a person is violent or has a motive then he will stab a person.

  18. I was raised an Irish Catholic. We were never to talk or show our body parts or we would be sentenced to eternal hell. I did moon someone once; does that count.

Your acquaintance who wanted a peek at your lovelies grew up to do that as a profession and got paid for it. I wonder if he ever gets tired of it now.

I love to watch kite flying. It seems magical and always makes me smile.

The guy who murdered his wife is a monster. There seems to be more and more monsters in this world.

Beautiful kitties. The owner probably has lots of white hair on the seat of their pants.

  19. Oh yes I do remember the streaking phase, although I never was one to do it, my fear was someone laughing at me just as you did with your acquaintance lol, some things for me should remain private I suppose... Do you remember Ray Stevens song "The Streak"? Those were the days huh.

I started with Gmail back when you had to get an invitation to join, I actually have always liked Gmail. and as for the cough medicine cop out I have a hard time believing that any cough syrup can make you homicidal, I think too many people now days are just looking for something to blame their actions on rather than taking responsibility for those actions...

  20. I knew some guys who streaked as part of a frat thing in the 90's at Michigan State. I was, um, present but did not participate.

Wow, tents have come a long way if you want to splurge, huh? :)

I would love to food tour Italy!!!

  21. Yep, I'm a Gmail user too. I also use their calendar and contacts. Great for syncing with the phone.

  22. I never got to see a streaker live, but did catch one on live TV until they turned the cameras.
Food tours sound great though I don't know how much I could eat since I don't eat a ton at once.
Not sure I buy what the guy is selling about the cold meds alone being responsible. I suppose he could have had a psychotic break and blamed the side affects that make one drowsy. Sad.

    Have a good weekend, Ro!

  25. Wow who knew running around naked was so popular. Meds are weird, not that I believe the guy, but my son has some real issues with over the counter meds. Benadryl at a normal dose makes him hallucinate. And I cannot take the med you mention because it makes my blood pressure go dangerously high. Have a great weekend Ro!!

  26. why would someone just offer to show off his private parts to you? how is that suppose to impress a girl? I would call the cops on him.

I honestly prefer not to see anyone naked, man or woman, I'm just a prude that way, perhaps too old fashion even.

I don't know if I love Italian food but I've always love spaghetti and baked ziti but never the meatball, I just don't like meat squeezed into a ball. what's up with that?

    have a lovely day.

  27. I remember that last story. I don't think cold medicine can turn you into a killer, but who knows? LOL It does seem like a cop-out though, and man, that's a lot of times to stab your wife! Sheesh.

I think food tours are such fun. I'd really like to do them more when I visit places. Great way to try different things.

  30. I used to love going camping as a kid. However, nowadays the tens are so fancy that I wonder if people even know what it's like to be in nature anymore. Some of the tents remind me of the one Hermione used in Harry Potter. LoL

  34. I have a hard time believing that cold medicine could make you murder someone. Feel light headed or fuzzy - yes but not randomly stab someone 23 times. Plus the evidence regarding her desire to leave makes it even more suspect. It's an odd case. We've gone tent camping a couple of times but we have an RV so we use that now. Those are some impressive tents!
