CHERRY SWIRL BROWNIES

I am a total fan of cherries, and this wow-worthy chocolate treat that's so simple to make, is sure to be a winner with friends or family.

INGREDIENTS
1 Pkg Cream Cheese that's been softened
1/4 Cup Sugar
1/4 Cup Chopped and well drained maraschino cherries (Or use regular cherries)
1 Tbs Maraschino Cherry Juice (Or use regular cherry juice)
2 Eggs
1 Box Betty Crocker Ultimate Fudge Brownie Mix
1/3 Cup Vegetable Oil

DIRECTIONS
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees or 325 degrees in a dark or nonstick pan.  Grease the bottom of the square pan with cooking spray of your choice.  In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, cherries, cherry juice and 1 egg with a spoon, then set aside.  In another bowl, combine the brownie mix, pouch of chocolate fudge, oil, 1/4 cup water and the other egg until well blended.

Spread 1/2 the batter in the pan, then spread the cream cheese mixture over the batter.  Carefully spoon the remaining batter on top, spreading gently to cover.  Bake 43-47 minutes, or until an inserted toothpick 1 inch from the side of the pan comes out almost clean.  Cool for about 1 1/2 hours before cutting.  If you're fortunate to have any left, store covered in the fridge.

August 4 at 10pm can't get here fast enough when the Season 2 premiere of Playing House is back on USA!  One day last year, I watched the first episode of this crazy sitcom, then found myself hooked until the season ended, causing me to suffer withdrawal.

When viewing this program, you'll be amazed at the chemistry between these two actresses Lennon Parham and Jessica St. Clair, and that's because they are best friends in real life.  The series touches on things that you've probably experienced at some time, and somehow making you crack up.  There's just this super funny vibe that you can connect with no matter what the topic is.  Even better, there are occasions that they stray from the script and it's hilarious! If you just want to have a real good time with the girls, grab some popcorn, sandwiches and lemonade, then binge on this wonderful program  ON Demand, or on-line before the new season starts.

WHAT'S MORE IMPORTANT - FOLLOWERS, FRIENDS, SUBSCRIBERS OR VIEWS?

Bloggers who have any of their posts set to public have something to say that they want others to know about. Recipes, decorating, book reviews, landscaping, fashion, entertainment news, relationships or sex, these are topics that may be important to you.

Social Media has conditioned us to friend, tweet, follow or connect via many outlets.  As bloggers we torture ourselves by paying attention to the numbers, while promising ourselves it's not all that important.  It's also entirely possible that non-bloggers think about things like this too.

We spend a great portion of our day pinning, liking, viewing or sharing, in addition to coming up with daily content that's interesting.  We wonder if we've said the right thing, obsess on whether the things that are supposed to be funny actually are, have nightmares about what happened to the subscriber we lost, and if people really care about us.

Do numbers reflect those feelings?  Some of us may have 2000 followers on Pinterest,  9 on Facebook and 852 subscribers.  Many may have 323,000 views , yet only 72 actual followers. The list goes on and on, but what does it all really mean?

Let's be honest.  If we had only 10 views or 5 followers or 10 friends, wouldn't that just be the pits and hurt like the dickens?

Can any of these numbers actually translate into income?  Do these statistics drive whether you continue to spend hours every day blogging about the things that you love?  Does it matter to other people who are looking at your blog?  Do you help other bloggers to meet their goals?

IS YOUR AGE REALLY JUST A NUMBER?

When I was a kid, anyone who was 30 years of age and older was a "geezer" and not worth my time. (lol) More often than not, these were the people who seemed to bug us the most. At 21, I vowed to turn 25 and just stay there because that just seemed like a cool number. You could drink alcohol, rent a vehicle, stay up all night and still look really good the next day. Eventually, those numbers kept creeping up higher and higher until 30 was the new 20 and getting older was just sort of ignored.  Now according to my son, I was born in 1919, which would make me the ripe young age of 96. No, that's not my age...yet.  If anyone actually asks me how old I am, he or she will get the truth.  I may not publish it to the masses, but I'm not going to lie about it either.

This topic came up as I watched one of my favorite programs on USA called Chrisley's Knows Best.  It's a half hour show that's laugh out loud funny, and this time the dad of the family, (Todd) was getting ready to celebrate a birthday and turning 47.  Always concerned about his appearance,  panic set in and his kids didn't help.  They didn't mind telling him that he really needed some work done on his face right away.   Almost immediately, Todd scheduled an appointment to get a little botox.  When the kids called their dad 3 days before his birthday, they lowered their voices to make him think he was going deaf.  At 17 and 18 years old, Savannah & Chase were having the time of their lives while playing numerous jokes on their dad.

I don't obsess over my age, but there are days I wish I could still do splits in the backyard, nonstop dancing in the club or to have no responsibilities so I could read books all day.  Even better, it would be total bliss to eat chocolate and cheeseburgers all day without the fear of gaining a pound. Then I wake up and realize there are bills to pay, housework to do, errands to run and phone calls to make. I'd like to think that I'm somehow a little wiser than I was years ago and ready to pass on ancient news to those who will listen.  It's also really neat to speak with older people who are filled with all this knowledge and information about the past.  Some of those tasty tidbits won't ever be found in books!

SUPER ICE CREAM FLOAT ON STRESS-FREE SUNDAY

Yesterday was a doozy!  This recent Facebook post explains pretty much everything that happened yesterday for the most part.  I still can't tell you what happened to my day.

Very rarely do I run into police road blocks for license checks, but it happened not once, or twice, but three dang times!  Yes, I waited until the last minute to reach the post office before closing, but I could have made it without all those distractions I tell you.  To make matters even worse, every one of those State Troopers probably could have been in a romance novel. *heh*  I asked each one if I could take a picture for my Blog and received pretty definitive "No's". (lol) Meanwhile, back to the drawing board with all that post office stuff next week.

We're still celebrating National Ice Cream Month with all kinds of fun recipes designed to make your mouth water.

CHOCOLATE AMARETTO FLOAT

INGREDIENTS
4 Cups Vanilla Ice Cream
1/4 Cup Milk
1/2 Tsp Almond Extract

6 Tbs Chocolate Syrup (or more if you like)
Whipped Cream, Additional Chocolate Syrup, Sprinkles or Nuts, Strawberries

DIRECTIONS

In a blender, combine 2 cups ice cream, milk, and almond extract, blending until smooth.  Transfer to a bowl and reserve.

In a blender, combine the remaining 2 cups of ice cream with 6 Tbs Chocolate Syrup, blending until smooth.  Divide among 4 10 oz. glasses.  Top with the rest of the reserved ice cream mixture.  Feel free to add on your whipped cream, more syrup, sprinkles and strawberries, then serve immediately.

I'm not really a fan of MMA, however, I do run across that sport in romance novels, and the stories are enjoyable.  One would have to admit that they are fit, disciplined and committed.  What might surprise you, however, is the significant amount of domestic violence displayed by many of these athletes.  Guess what?  They're still making money with little repercussions from these criminal acts.  Bryant Gumbel interviewed Christy Mack on Real Sports who was beaten nearly to death by her boyfriend, War Machine.  In case you're wondering, his real name is Jon Kappenhaver.  Yep, she's a porn star.  Yes, if they were still together (there are conflicting reports about that), she had no business cheating.  He started abusing her 4 months into their relationship, and when he caught her with another man in her home, he beat her, breaking 10 of her ribs, nose and teeth, fracturing a rib, rupturing her liver and bruising her body.  You and I look at these pictures and see it as wrong. however, many MMA fighters feel she deserved it and had no problem sharing their opinions.

After she was able to gather her courage by posting pics of her injuries, police issued a warrant for his arrest, and he was on the run, posting to Twitter until being caught a week later.  He may end up in prison for the rest of his life for attempted murder.

I don't know this couple, but every time I see a situation like this, my heart cries out for the victim. I'm also saddened that an abuser feels the need to control a person he or she professes to love, by becoming violent.  This act has been publicized, but how many other victims are never heard?
