THIS IS IT THURSDAY & CHOCOLATE PRETZEL TREATS

Let's put it out there, readers.  Hanging out with a kid who spits up on my freshly laundered outfit, having to change a dirty diaper that stinks to high heaven, and trying to figure out baby words is not my idea of a riveting day.  No reading can get done and designated kid programs take the place of my cooking shows. Despite my misgivings, I agreed to watch my one month old niece and 5 year old nephew for about 45 minutes the other day.  It was 44 minutes too long.

In that tortuous time, the baby spit up on me not once, not twice, but three times in three different places and had the audacity to smile about it.  The 5 year old was like a jumping bean all over the house surely causing me to lose about 3-4 pounds.  When he was still for about 2 minutes he chanted a song I had a hard time understanding, initially.  As he kept repeating it, I finally realized what he was singing, and this is a direct quote.  "Kill that b****h, Kill that b****h, Kill that b****h,".  Uh..I'm sure you get the picture.  Can I tell you that I wish what he was saying had remained like gibberish?  In the middle of being vomited on by the baby, I ran over and told him that I knew he wasn't saying what I thought he was, and he grinned. Where in the world had he heard something like that? No one gave me the memo to wear earplugs around young kids.  I then sternly told him he had better not EVER say anything like that again.  He seemed so surprised that I said anything, that he stopped smiling and I never heard that horrible phrase again. Dirty dress and all, I couldn't wait to tell their grandfather/grandmother, mother/father, uncles, aunts and anyone else who would listen, what had transpired before I ran out of there before anything worse happened.

As I drove to the bookstore in Cary, I was reminded once again of why no one should EVER ask me  to babysit, even if I'm bribed with books.  Even better, I was reminded of why I always say NO! This is it for real this time, blogosphere. (lol)

On to our recipe from allrecipes.com:

  1. Sounds like quite a babysitting experience! Who knows where your nephew heard that one. It could be anywhere. Their brains are like magnets for things they're not supposed to say and they never forget. I do not miss the spitting up days. I'm pretty sure I changed clothes about 9 times a day during my youngest's first year. It was bad. Those pretzel treats however look great! I love the sweet and salty combination and those look super easy but are so pretty.

  2. Great post :)) It isn't easy to babysit...I know it for a fact. I love my grandchildren and great grandchildren with all my heart, BUT, after years of watching grandchildren after I had retired from working for over 40 years...I said "no" to watching great grandchildren. I am going to be 70 years old in 2016. I have four children and my hubby and I worked on different shifts when they were small...no babysitters to be had. Then about twelve years ago I finally retired. Great!!! Not!!! Mom can watch the grandchildren while we work. Finally the youngest grandchild was thirteen...no more babysitting in my retirement. HUH!!! What was I thinking! My daughter decides to have another baby at 42 years old! Hey, mom...can you??? Before she even finished the sentence I said sweetly, "no. I cannot." Then my grand daughter just had a baby. Grandma, can you??? Again sweetly, "no. I cannot." Just in case anyone else is ready to ask... "no. I cannot!"

    Yummy looking recipe, RO!!!

  3. bwahahahaha I have a grandson who will be 3 years old in January. My daughter and son in law live in the same apartment complex that I do, so I've done my fair share of babysitting. I baby sat my grandson over night when he was just 2 weeks old because they needed a break (sleep) lol It was easier when he was 2 weeks old.

  5. Your pretzels should more than make up for that horrible disaster. Where did the kid hear that song?! Some people find it cute when kids cuss, not me though.

  8. When my sister's baby was little, her diaper leaked on me. EWWWWW. It was disgusting. None of the friends I had with kids could figure out what on earth kind of cheap-a** diapers they were buying that LEAKED. Some speculated that maybe they were just the wrong size? Most people affirmed that leaking diapers were very rare in this day and age!
