Between 7am - 7pm today, (March 8) stop into participating IHOP Restaurants in your neck of the woods to take advantage of this FREEBIE. However, you may be asked to leave a donation for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals - but no pressure ladies and gents.
By the way - can you tell which stack of pancakes is real and which is actually a cake made by some brilliant baker? (lol)
When you were a kid in school, how many poems did you have to recite? It sure seemed like a zillion to me, but despite that, Edgar Allen Poe was a fantastic writer, and I remember having to do a book report and recite some of his poetry. According to him, The Raven was the greatest poem ever written, but once Mr. Poe published it in the local newspaper, The New York Daily Mirror, he lost his copyright protection. Soon everyone had no problem reprinting that amazing poem. Once he did decide to publish his works, no one wanted to be bothered because they had seen the poem in so many other places, so Mr. Poe made next to nothing for his efforts.
LORD BYRON
Right before passing away, Lord Byron mentioned these last words. " Now I shall go to sleep. Goodnight".
AUTHOR CONAN DOYLE
This he said to his wife. "You are wonderful". Wonderfully romantic!
BEING GRATEFUL
Did you know that those who are grateful tend to "Pay It Forward" more than others, and are more likely to donate to a charity fairly consistently? My goal is to open up a high-end home for female veterans who are homeless or have been abused, along with counselors who can help get them back into society with counseling and jobs. Sadly, many shelters that are available have rodents, roaches, bedbugs and more, making it uncomfortable. In some cases, it may even cause families to go back on the streets or abusive situations. Not many people take me seriously, or fail to see my vision, but I'm not giving up.
The other day, as I started to enter a Wal-Mart, an employee asked me to use the entry near the grocery. Of course, you know I had to see what was going on. I peeked in the door to see two police officers restraining a kid, who clearly did not wish to be detained. Upon further digging, it was revealed that this kid asked for a box of Legos and was told "No". Apparently, all hell broke loose as this kid of about 8 - 9 years old, slapped his mom and called her a b***h. I don't know how it happened, but the police were called and this kid continued to act out with the police as his mom watched, clearly in frustration. Eventually, the young man calmed down, but it took some time. Uh...what in the world?
You can't see me, RO, but I'm giving you a standing ovation right now regarding your goal for our female veterans!
ReplyDeleteAngela, you've totally made my day! BIG Hugs...
DeleteWow - I so admire your goal of providing shelter to homeless female veterans. All the best of luck to you.
ReplyDeleteHey There Rachel! Thanks so much for the kind words. Homeless veterans need the help so very much! So glad you stopped by! Hugs...
DeleteI did not know the story behind Poe's disastrous printing of The Raven in the newspaper. That poor man. If it weren't for bad luck, he would have had no luck at all. No wonder he wrote horror stories.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing hearing about all the things that go on behind the scenes with authors, and that was a sad one. Thanks so much for stopping by Dianne. You are greatly appreciated! Hugs...
DeleteThankfully there are those such as yourself, RO...with big hearts and love for the abused and homeless in this world...abused and homeless women, children and animals and yes, even some men. I do believe in you and in your vision...I wish you all the luck in this world.
ReplyDeletePoor Poe...no wonder he had so many problems. He was very talented in a dark sort of way. "The Raven" is my favorite poem by Poe. I loved how Vincent Price read Poe's poetry. He had the perfect look and voice for reciting Poe's writings~
Big Hugs
Jan
Jan, you are the best, and your support has always been so appreciated! Vincent Price was pretty awesome, too. We never know the full story behind a writer, right? Some of the news is fascinating. BIG HUgs right back...Ro
DeleteFree flapjacks! Sign me up. I pass an IHOP on my way home. Perhaps breakfast for dinner. :) Cool cake!
ReplyDeleteI love the Raven, I even tried to memorize it once, but it's a long poem and I never managed to. I can barely even memorize my own poems. However, I have memorized the Jabberwocky. What a fun poem.
The fun never stops at Wally World, does it? Somehow that child was never disciplined. Which is really too bad. So many children brought up this way feel the world owes them for doing nothing.
I love my freebies, Jeffrey, but no matter what, I can never seem to finish more than 1 pancake! Isn't that crazy? (lol) True, true on the sense of entitlement that so many of young people have. So glad you stopped by to say hello! Hugs...
DeleteNow I want pancakes and that cake looks amazing! I love Poe's poetry though I'm not a big fan of poetry in general. I knew someone who named their child Anabel Lee after the poem which always made me wonder if she had actually read it.
ReplyDeleteLOL on the Annabel Lee story! Isn't that ckae fun? Truly amazes me how gifted some people are.! Hugs...
DeleteMy kid would never have acted like that. Kids these days are so entitled and get away with way too much and the parents act like they just don't care. They have more important things to do than making sure their kids aren't psychos...more important things to do like playing video games all day or texting on their phones. Too absorbed in social media to even look up to see what hell their kids are causing.
ReplyDeleteWhat. The. Hell? Seriously? My kid will never see the light of day if he acted that way in public! I mean he'll be grounded until he moves out of the house.
ReplyDeleteDitto, Joyous Joy! That was a horrible situation for everyone involved. I pray that it somehow gets better before it's too late. Hugs...
DeleteUgh. That kid is out of control! It's a shame so many people have children when obviously they have no parenting ability--and no desire to even try to do a good job at it. That pancake cake is COOL!
ReplyDeleteI know, right? No respect for parents, and parents don't know what to do. Sad situation, for sure.
Deletenever been to an ihop and I don't think I ever will, even with free pancakes, I just kind of never thought of going plus I've not seen one in new york so...
ReplyDeleteno suprise that the kid acted out but I'm surprised that the police were called, after all, isn't this the mother's problem? if every parent call the police when they acted out, who's going to catch criminals?
anyway, have a lovely day.
Kids and people in general are ridiculous these days. I know some will say just a kid but they can cause some damage. Whew.
ReplyDeleteAnd now I want pancakes! lol Yum!
Kids who don't behave well in public is definitely a sign of the times and so sad to me. I'm lucky if I can ever eat more than 1! (lol) Hugs...
