UNFRIED ICE CREAM + STUFF

Even though the weather is getting a little cooler thank goodness, I still need to find a way to get in my ice cream fix.  This particular recipe suggests using vanilla, but I say the sky's the limit on what flavor ice cream you choose.  Cookie Dough, Chocolate, Strawberry, Cookies and Cream.  It's all up to you.

UNFRIED ICE CREAM
Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.  In a small pot, heat 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup water and 1/8 tsp salt over medium heat for about 2 minutes, or until the sugar is dissolved.

Pour over 2 Cups old-fashioned rolled oats in a large bowl and stir with a rubber spatula to coat well.  Transfer to a prepared baking sheet and spread in a single layer.  Bake at 325 degrees for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes, until browned and dry.  Let it cool completely, then transfer to a medium bowl, breaking up any clumps.

Roll scoops of ice cream in the oats until completely covered.  Serve drizzled with chocolate syrup and top with whipped topping and sprinkles.

TOY CRAZE THIS SEASON
If you've been reading this blog, you already know that I used to collect toys quite a bit, and include

Hot Wheels, Happy Meal kits, Barbies, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Batman and more.

But kids are excited about different things these days, and some are super expensive.  Here are just a few that are popular this season.

American Girl Truly Me - $200 from americangirl.com (customize a doll to look just like your child!)
Fisher-Price Imaginext DC Super Friends Batbot Extreme - $100 from Walmart (30 inches tall)!

Spin Master's Luva Bella - $100 from ToysRUs
Leapfrog's Scoop & Learn Ice Cream Cart -40 from Target
Lego Duplo Batcave Challenge - $50  from shop.lego.com
Tickle Me Elmo!!!! - $30 from hasbrotoyshop.com

Mattel DC Superhero Girls Wonder Woman Action Figure w/Lasso of Truth  $24.99 - Toysrus, but this is popular, so different figures are priced up to $159.99.

WOMAN POWER
Speaking of Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot has quite an impressive resume.  In 2004 she represented her country as Ms. Israel in the Miss Universe Pageant.  She's the 3rd actress and 1st non-American to play the role, and was a combat instructor for 2 years in the Israel Defense Forces.

CANDY, CANDY AND MORE CANDY
Are you getting geared up for lots of chocolate to kick off the season?  Well put on your walking shoes to attend chocolate tours in Chicago, New York, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Boston, Beverly Hills and more.  These aren't just any tours because they last for 2 hours, and give tons of history on chocolate as well as the neighborhood, AND they cost $50 per person. But if you're a serious chocoholic, you'll get your fill of lots and lots of decadent desserts.  Even better, if you're visiting for the first time, it's possible to get a 20-30% discount online.  Leave those tight jeans at home, though. (lol)
IT'S BACK!
If you don't mind the pressure and have the cooking chops, get your entry into the Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest between now and November 10.  Not only will you score bragging rights, but you can win $50,000, a kitchen makeover worth $25,000, a paid trip to New York for the winner and 1 guest, hotel with meals, and a guest appearance on The Kitchen.  The total prize package is worth $92,000!

Accepting unwanted advances back in the day happened quite frequently, particularly in the military.  But as time went on and laws became stronger regarding sexual harassment and assault, most of us thought there had been some significant progress.

It took tremendous courage for actors/actresses and models to come forth with their stories, and I commend them.  Yet, once again, it takes something happening to a celebrity to bring these actions to light of what is still going on.  What saddens me more than anything is that the people who are being subjected to this heinous behavior desperately need an income to buy food, take care of children or to pay rent/mortgage.

They suffer silently in fear of losing their incomes or reputations, hoping to find another source of income so they can leave the nonsense behind.  These are the people who work in grocery stores, telephone companies,  hospitals, fast food restaurants, publishing houses, and even the government.  They're not famous or well known, and no one will notice if they tweet on Twitter or post on Facebook about how they're being mistreated.

  1. Sexual abuse is a power play. And makes me ballistic with rage. Sadly it will continue for just as long as equality between the sexes is a token achievement.
Love that you nurture your inner child - and aren't some of the toys of the moment expensive??? They wouldn't have crossed the threshold while I was growing up.

    1. I feel your rage and pain EC, and I can't understand why it just won't go away. I wish I still collected toys, but life has changed, bust I still love looking at them when I can because of the memories. Hugs...and Happy Wednesday! RO

  2. Oh dear, Christmas is coming. I wrote something about the celebrity business but I was not happy with it and deleted it. I agree with you. It is all very well about celebrities but there are so many who are not at all in a position to speak up. The culture needs to change, but I don't think it is going to happen when a chief offender is in office.

    1. It really saddens me that all this is going on behind the scenes, and many have no recourse. I hope you decide to do your post anyway sometimes soon. Hugs...

  3. Those ice cream balls look really promising. Make mine chocolate mint, please!

You have a TON of action toys. I have a friend who used to buy a lot of those toys, figurines, and action figures. He has an entire room set up with shelves on all four walls filled with these figures, so I totally understand your obsession. And I believe some of them may be quite valuable over time, especially if kept in their original packaging.

Add to your list of sexually harassed individuals those who work in industry and the teaching profession. Anytime a supervisor can control whether you keep your job or give into his/her advances is in danger. I can't understand it, either. I just hope the problem ceases some day, but I fear it will continue as long as there are people (mostly men) who are in a position to keep the worker under their thumb. Great post today, dear Ro.

    1. Yum to that chocolate mint, Elizabeth! What you're seeing in this post is not even close to what I've collected over the years! (lol) Many things I've sold, but I still have tons. Some I'll sell, some I'll keep, and most will probably end up with my granddaughter.

You're so right, supervisors/managers hold a lot of power, and it saddens me that they choose to use it for something like this instead of making a difference in someone's life. Hugs...and Happy Wednesday! RO

Do you collect the toys or are you a ebay reseller? I'm a vinyl and cd collector!

    1. You're probably much healthier than I am, Joey. (lol) I used to hang out in toy stores buying things all the time, so I have a pretty good selection. Lately, I've been selling some things on ebay for the extra cash. I made a pretty good deal on two Green Hornet cars, and Kobe Bryant action figure a while back. That's cool that you collect albums and cd's, and hope you post some pics one day soon. Hugs...

  9. Sexual assault and harassment is horrible, and I do commend the actors that came forward - and anyone that does. But I can see why people wouldn't either. It's rough. But more needs to be done to hold these people responsible (the ones that perpetrate the act, not the victims).

On a lighter note - omg! I want to do a chocolate tour. How fun is that?

    1. I agree with you Lauren, so sad that it even goes on, but you're right, people are afraid of losing incomes and reputations, but that shouldn't be the case at all. I agree, there should be stronger penalties for the perps. I think I could walk around for 2 hours if it meant eating chocolate along the way, right? (lol) Hugs...

I cannot tell you how many times I was sexually harassed on the job. It took my husband to tell me that it was wrong and I needed to report it one of my jobs. I'd lived it with it for so long, It'd become my normal. Sad, huh?

  19. We are huge Lego fans here so I have a feeling that will be the bulk of our Christmas here. Yum on the unfried ice cream! There's a Mexican restaurant here that has something very similar and you have me wanting to skip making dinner and visit them instead! I agree with you about the silent victims. I've had my share of harassment but was lucky in that it was never from someone who had real power over me. Most of the time if a line was crossed by a coworker I was able to handle the situation without any trouble and I never felt like it was on purpose to make me uncomfortable. Once I said "not cool" there was usually lots of apologies and it was never repeated. I was in computer science so I think it was more social awkwardness than actual harassment. But I know I was lucky.

  20. Oh wow. I don't even want to think about the fact that Christmas is coming! We always made fake fried ice cream with crushed Corn Flakes mixed with cinnamon and sugar and baked in the oven, then cooled. What sucks is that even Mexican restaurants don't bother frying it anymore. Most of the time they just stick it in a shell, sprinkle some sugar and cinnamon on it, and call it fried.

    1. I know, right? Seems like this year really went by so quickly. That's a really clever idea about the fake ice cream, and sounds super simple to do. I admit to never trying it in the restaurant, but for goodness sakes if they say it's fried they should certainly deliver. Hugs...RO
