WEDDING GOWN GIVEAWAY FOR FIRST RESPONDERS/MILITARY & STUFF

Every year I do a post  reminding military brides and first responders about the Brides Across America Wedding Gown Giveaway in various states, honoring those who serve our country.

It's important to register in advance by clicking here, event list page, and paying the one time $40 registration fee. This information is provided to the bridal salons to ensure they have gowns in your size to choose from, and one will be FREE.

Don't be discouraged if your state isn't listed.  Be sure to check with some of  the salons in your area just in case because they may be participating, but haven't signed up yet for the program.

More details of the necessary criteria and documentation needed is available at:

PODCAST LOVE
Are you a podcast fan?  Is there someone in particular that you listen to all the time?  Here's a few that might interest you based on what your hobbies, or what you watch on television.

STARTALKRADIO.NET introduces us to a comedian, soccer player and broadcaster that break down really important sports moments in history scientifically.

TMSIDK.COM talks about news in a format similar to a game show, which is really cool.

NPR.org has a group of people gathered around to talk about pop culture and recent trends.

EARLY PROGRAMMING
I enjoy watching cooking shows and ballroom dancing on PBS, (Public Broadcasting Service) and one of the very first cooking shows actually aired there in 1963 called The French Chef with Julia Child.  The Antiques Roadshow, This Old House ,a Chef's Life, and Curious George are also still around.

WOULD YOU EVER DO THIS?
When I was a kid, we had a best friend who's mother insisted that we call her first name.  It took us a while to get it, but we finally got on board.  I remember calling my mom by her first name once, and that was one time too many because I ended up getting punished for 2 days with no television or books,  thought the world had ended. (lol) I learned my lesson quickly!  For the record, my son couldn't call me by my first name either. (lol)

Now it seems like kids are ditching the tradition of calling their parents Mom & Dad. What about you?  Do you call your parents by their first names?  Have you ever done it?

  1. The wedding dress giveaway is a lovely gesture.
Call my parents by their given names? No. I couldn't. And they wouldn't have taken it well. One of their friends insisted I used her given name. I solved the problem by never calling her anything. Wimp city.

    1. Your parents sound just like mine EC. (lol) I called my friend's mom by her first name, but I always felt super uncomfortable about it for sure. I thought that was a great idea about the giveaway for bridal gowns too. You're not a wimp EC, just super clever. (lol) Hugs...

  2. Always "mom and dad"... I would not have felt right using their given names.
Our two year old great-granddaughter calls our granddaughter "my mom"... it's so sweet and cute 🍁🍂🎃

    1. Hello There Jan! I've been praying for you and your family every single day, and hope that you are all doing well and hanging in there. I'm old school, so there was no way ever that either my dad or mom would have gone for the first name thing. Your great granddaughter sounds so adorable. Hugs...RO

  3. Never called my parents by their first names, nor never would I. My step children which as you know I consider my own, they call me by my first name because we gave them the choice and their dad was still in their lives, this just limited the confusion of having two dads...I'm OK with this.

    1. I'm like you Jimmy, and come from the old school of life. My parents just wouldn't go for that ever. Making arrangements so all are comfortable made perfect sense Jimmy. Hugs...

  4. I don't think most kids do that today, just a few rebels. I wouldn't like it if my kids (eventual anyway) did that. Now if I ever was a step parent that would be a different story

    1. LOL! I'd like to think that we don't have too many young rebels out there who are trying to be best friends with their parents, but there may be a few hanging around. To me, it's just a respect thing, you know? That seems to be the consensus with step parents who would make a concession, and that makes sense to me as well. Hugs...

Call me old fashioned but it's always mum and dad.

    All the best Jan

  6. Love the wedding dress idea for the first responders and military.

Oh no way would I be allowed to call parents by their first names and I felt really uncomfortable if my friends' folks asked me to call them by their names. LOL

    1. I think that is so kind that they offer this program, too. We all felt uncomfortable with the first name thing, but after so many years, we all got used to it. Now that I'm so much older, I add a Miss to her first name, though because she's a good bit older. (lol)

  9. I never called my parents by their first name. It was always mommy and daddy even as an adult. Although they are no longer with me I still call them mommy and daddy when talking about them.

    1. I'm the same way Nadene. Even though my parents are both deceased, I still refer to them as mom and dad. Now that I think of it, I don't even know if my son will remember their real names because I never used them. (lol) Hugs...

  10. I've heard about the wedding dress giveaway in the past, and am so glad you shared the information here. I think it's a very worthy and noble idea.

I love PBS. I know another show that's been on a LONG TIME on PBS is "This Old House." In fact, I'm much better at home repairs than I am at cooking due to that program and my grandfather's tutelage.

I think that's a bit of roll reversal at my house on name calling. I used to call my grandparents Grams and Gramps. They got use to it faster than they got used to calling me by my first name when I entered high school. They always called me by my middle name which I didn't care for. My grandmother got on board rather easily, but to the day he died, my grandfather called me Sue.

    1. The wedding dress giveaway is a great opportunity for those in need, so I'm thrilled that they offer the program. We like so many of the same things Elizabeth. I love This Old House, but don't ask me to actually fix anything. (lol) I'll have to defer to you I think. Grandparents usually get a pass on a lot of things, huh? (lol) Hugs...RO

  12. Kids call their parents by their first names? I haven't come across that but heck no, that would be weird and I think it's disrespectful.

    1. I agree that it's disrespectful for us Old school" people, but way back then, my friend's mom dared to be different, I guess. (lol) Hugs...

  16. I call her mom now but when I was little I'd call her Martha sometimes. I was the only kid with all adults and everyone else called her Martha so...why wasn't I? lol Most adults I called by first name.

Now here in NC so many kids do the Miss Anna or whatever name. I've been here long enough that sounds normal to me. lol

  17. I never called my mom or dad by their real names but my dad called my grandmother by her first name and she actually loved it... it was kind of cute, my grandmother told me a story about when my dad was was young.. he was sitting on the counter picking up an egg dropping it on the floor and saying bad Gary broke Beanies eggs... haha

I think it's up to the parent about what they like to be called, both my girls call me a form of mom... my oldest calls me mommy most of the time and my youngest calls me mama... I love both xox

  18. My name is DOROTHY LISA, I want to share a great testimony on this website on how great a man called Prophet Abulele helped me in getting pregnant, me and my husband have been trying to have a baby for over 12 years, but they were no luck so we decided to contact the family doctor and after all the test have been done, he said to us that my Fallopian tube is not functioning. then one day I was in the office when a friend of mine who had the same problem with me, got her baby after she contacted Prophet Abulele. she directed me to him and when I contacted him through his email: prophetabulelehealingtemple@gmail.com and he prayed for me and sent me an herbal medicine, which I took for few days and in 3 weeks’ time, as he told me, i was feeling somehow and I went to meet the family doctor who told me that I am pregnant. if you know that you have a similar problem like this, or any fertility issue and you want to be pregnant you can contact Prophet Abulele: prophetabulelehealingtemple@gmail.com OR WhatsApp him on +2349022406159

  19. I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
