FASHION NEWS
If you've ever seen any of the past 15 seasons of Project Runway, you may have noticed that the models were always tiny.  This year, they've mixed it up with models ranging from size 0 to size 22.  For some of the designers that change was rough to deal with, but they've been making it work.

I LOVE LUCY
Did you ever watch I Love Lucy?  If so, you may have noticed how good a job Ethel & Fred did of making us laugh.  In real life, however, William Frawley & Vivian Vance did not like one another at all, and it started right from the very first show.  Vivian complained to someone that she thought William was too old to be her husband, and it really went downhill from there.  

STONE LOVE
You know all those rocks that your kids keep picking up at the beach or in the local park?  Why not turn them into decorative artwork by painting them yourself, or letting the kids get involved? It's also a great way to relax.

BOOKS ON LOAN
Do you still go to the library?  I do all the time, and in fact they all know me by name making me feel like a mini-celebrity.  I get to go behind the counter to look at all the new releases they haven't put out yet, and I never have to use my library card.

But the library I grew up with isn't really the same anymore.  Kids gather around one computer to chat with others on social media, they play games, and quiet study is very rare.

I do see some kids taking out books with their own library card, but most of the young people spend more time on the computers.  

What's really wonderful is that effective September, our local library will be open 7 days a week.  Yay!

The downside of using any library of course, is that those books need to be returned...eventually.

What in the world would possess a store as large as Best Buy to sell cases of water for $42.00 in Texas to all those people in need? Even worse, they told the news people that they don't even sell cases of water normally!  Other stores were doing the same thing.

How could someone sleep at night hiking up the cost of food, bedding or gas when people are dying, trying to find their families or standing in water up to their knees with nothing but the clothing on their backs?

I don't get it.

"You guys! It's here! The Support the Troops Auction is here!

This is our third time hosting the benefit auction. All donations go to the USO where I've volunteered the last five years.

I'm including images of each auction package so you can see larger pics. They're a spot small on the actual auction site.

Real quick:

The USO where I volunteer is at our airport. We provide a lounge where military and their dependents can rest while waiting for flights or if they've had a delay/cancellation. We have a playroom, kitchen, lounge and computer area. We also have an honors team that comes in to escort fallen soldiers coming through our airport and their families. We do welcome home celebrations and deployments as well as a ton of other things. 

Last time I looked I think it was 500,000 who come through our center each year. You can find out more about what we do here.

The auction is to benefit our center and the USO of NC!

Meanwhile Food and Wine shared some of the best fried chicken spots in the country.
Here are four to check out if you're ever in the neighborhood.

Crack Shack - San Diego, CA
Richard Blais is one of my fave chefs and hails from the halls of Top Chef, Rachael Ray, Food Network and more.  He came up with a fried chicken oyster that is absolutely delicious.  The meat has been brined in pickle juice, deep fried, and served with a special lemon tartar sauce.  Yummy!

Fuku - New York, NY
David Chang created a culinary masterpiece with his friend chicken sandwich that packs a punch with a marinade of buttermilk and habanero, and served on a steamed potato bun with fermented chickpea butter. Oh,  I also really like the name of this place.

Crisp - Chicago, IL is pretty much a fast food spot that is always packed with hungry people. They have many different versions of Korean style fried chicken that has been deliciously dipped in garlic, ginger and soy, dusted with flour, then double fried for extra flair and crispiness.

Wayfare Tavern - San Francisco has been made famous by Food Network's Tyler Florence. His super crispy and juicy chicken is prepared by baking it in the oven for 2 1/2 hours  then after coating it in special seasoned flour, fries it in a oil with garlic and other herbs.  In case you're wondering, it's not all that simple to prepare this gastronomical delight.  There's a ton of ingredients and lots of  special steps.

A BLAST FROM THE PAST
Do you remember the Brady Bunch from way back in the day?  Did you notice how often there were actually bathroom scenes on the show?  Did you also spot that a toilet was never actually in there?  Back then, censors wouldn't allow a toilet to be seen on screen.  That's definitely not the case these days.

According to Google, nearly 1 billion people use Google Maps on a monthly basis!

ANIMAL NEWS

The book releases next month.
