Fast forward a zillion years later, and I'm still a serious fan of romance/erotic romance with a good mix of motivational, mystery, thrillers, and cookbooks thrown in. Despite reading almost anything these days when I have the time, there are certain authors that I read consistently.
These are the people who cause me to go through withdrawal once I've finished a book, having to wait for a year or two before the next release. There's no need to read a blurb or a review because I'm going to skate, drive, fly, crawl to the bookstore, or hit the send button with a blindfold on because I have to have those particular books.
Different things attract me to a particular novelist, but the four biggies are authenticity, heart string pulling, (tears or laughter), suspense, or if I can learn something that's unique and thought-provoking.
What about you? Why are you drawn to a specific writer's books?
BACK IN THE DAY
The other day at the grocery store, two really cool things happened. I was given a bouquet of flowers FREE because I was laughing very loudly with two of the cashiers, (I'm sure he really wanted to me to just leave so everyone could get back to work-lol) and I saw someone in Bell Bottom Jeans.
The flowers were lovely, but I was much more fascinated by those jeans that I used to wear waaay back in the day. I even had the nerve to wear them as Hip Huggers. *heh* Raise your hands if you remember any of these fashion trends from the 70's that are still hidden in your closet. (lol)
You may notice that Hot Pants from the70's, Daisy Dukes from the 80's and Short Shorts from 2016 are strikingly similar!
I have several authors that I've been reading for years and yes, I just blinding buy their books when they come out. If a book really reels me in and it's a series I just keep buying the books.
ReplyDeleteI have some people on Twitter who follow me that have me scratching my head at times. We have nothing in common but hey, if they want to read the weird things I write, have at it. lol
Too funny, Mary! (lol)
DeleteI used to only read romance too. I still read a TON but I love me some horror, graphic novels, sci-fi etc. It's nice to learn how much we grow as readers as we age :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'll ever give up romance, either Sarah,, but no, no, no on the horror! (lol)
DeleteLet's get to know Slutty Girl better :P
ReplyDeleteI'm an eclectic reader and I pick up a book based on the usual and at times random stuff. If it sounds good, I'll try it
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! Braine - you're too funny!!!! Sometimes thos random choices pay off well, right? Hugs...
DeleteIf I enjoyed an author's previous books, I'll keep reading each new release until I'm not enjoying those books any longer. When I'm browsing, a book cover will have me reading the blurb.
ReplyDeleteI think that's how I started, too, Angela, and have only had one instance where the book wasn't that great, but I still hang on. (lol) I do check out the blurbs with new authors and focus on reviews from my fellow bloggers. Hugs...and glad you stopped by!
DeleteWell, not authors specifically, but more the synopsis. Oh heck, who am I kidding? I'll read anything with romance. Lol.
ReplyDeleteI know, right? (lol) Something about a good love scene always ropes me in.
DeleteFor ones I've already read and enjoy I love a little laugh, ones that make me smile and that give my heart a little patter.
ReplyDeleteFor new to me authors it's ALL about the cover since I'm not a blurb reader :D
The ones that touch our heart is super special, right? Hugs...
DeleteRecommendations...but I'll be honest, I usually stick with the same authors. When I find one I like, I'll read everything by her. That's why I love blogging. To support my fellow bloggers, I read all kinds of different books.
ReplyDeleteI stick with the same authors a lot, but I find that if I'm into a certain genre, I'll choose authors, based on recs from others, who are similar. Hugs...
DeleteI see how creative people can get with names but perhaps some people have different definition of the same words we know. I wouldn't ever used such names but then again, there is always a reason behind it and I'm certain she has a really, really, really, good reason...
ReplyDeleteas for books, I used to read alot by this author but now I'm not even sure I like her writing at all, I suppose different age means changing tastes or viewpoints. now I'm all about the story and I don't care who wrote what as long as I like the story.
hope you have a lovely day.
LOL! I agree with you. I'm sure there is a good reason, for sure! The story is the thing! Hugs...
DeleteA cover will make me read a book's blurb. If I like the blurb, I'll buy the book. If I like the book, I'll keep reading the author's work. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteLately, some of those covers have fooled me and I've missed out on some really good books, but that blurb is super important, along with the reviews I see from other bloggers. Like you, I can end up getting seriously hooked! (lol)
DeleteFashion comes and goes. And it comes back most of the time. I see trends from yesteryears that are back today. It's fun to think that it's a matter of timing.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun to see how fashion evolves and keeps coming back around. Thanks for stopping by Lux! Hugs...
DeleteI was born in 1970 so I remember those bell bottoms and the short shorts.
ReplyDeleteI started reading horror. Then got into romance and my go to authors right now are Christine Feehan, Laurell K Hamilton, Sherrilyn Kenyon and there are a few others.
YIKES! I did read Stephen King for a while and have all his books, but that scary stuff I don't do these days. You mention some other really amazing authors! Yay to Bell Bottoms, right? (lol) Hugs...
DeleteI'm with you, Ro. There are some authors whose books I auto-buy. Jill Shalvis is one of mine, too ;) She always manages to draw me in and make me feel like I'm a part of the story unfolding :D
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, those bell bottoms!! I was born in the 70s, so I don't really have a lot of them, but when they came back in the 90s, I got some... I found them quite difficult to walk in, actually LOL.
Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookviews
After all the books I've read over the years, it still amazes how writers can still hold it together and come up with such memorable characters and storylines, and that's definitely the case with Shalvis. When I was a kid, I rocked those things all the time.(lol) Some look pretty neat, and I imagine I'd trip and fall these days too. Hugs...so thrilled you stopped by to say hello!
DeleteI have a few that I read anything they write, but in the last few years I've really taken chances on new one and its paid off so that I have more to love. I love to read something unique in the setting or world of the story, it has to feel authentic as far as plot and character actions/feelings, and yes, I have to connect emotionally even if the book has me sobbing.
ReplyDeleteHa, hot pants. I never could wear them, but my best friend looked great in them- made her legs look a mile long and she knew it. :)
LOL! I'm super short, but I wore those hot pants like crazy, girl! I like my old standby authors, but thanks to you and a few more of my favorite bloggers, I'm finding out and reading many new ones. Hugs...
